loverofinsanefox Posted 3 November 2007 Posted 3 November 2007 Match Report Looks like Ashley Chambers wont be on the bench for Colchester I'm afraid Thracian! I'm not sure how good Bristol's youth team are ( I know Tristan Plummer, an England youth international plays for them ), but seems the academy isnt being quite so dominant this year unfortunately.
Wezleylowski Posted 3 November 2007 Posted 3 November 2007 Billy Kee looks mental on this pic from the OS.

There's no question the Academy are weaker this season. Defensively we're leaking like a sieve and I'm not really surprised. We've lost a lot of good players. Apart from an ordinary defence we don't have the penetration from the flanks or the all-round ability of King in midfield nor the effective industry of Tom Tejan-Sie in midfield. I notice Sappleton was also out, together with Joe Magunda.

Thracian Posted 3 November 2007 Posted 3 November 2007 Bloody hell no wonder we lost. Sappletizer did'nt play He does make a difference at that level.
Bert Posted 3 November 2007 Posted 3 November 2007 Now you know why Sappleton didn't play. Magunda is injured. The three key men we're missing are all moving on in their careers now, King, Odihambo and Gradel.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Last season, Bristol's under 18s were very poor and we walked all over them. I didn't go to today's game so don't know how good they are now but I can't imagine they've improved that much since last season. Difference between this season and last is that last season we had players that had been playing under 18s football for quite a while whereas this year's under 18s have much less experience in the age group.
The People's Hero Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 It seems that this year, playing similarly aged and experienced players to everyone else has been a great leveller. Everyone with half a brain knew it would be and any side fielding 'older' players in this sort of competition will do better. Just goes to show how so many people were getting excited over nothing last year.

Manwell Pablo Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Thats a bit unfair winning the FA youth cup by beating Arsenal in the final is a great achievement whatever the ages! Ye what?
The People's Hero Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Thats a bit unfair winning the FA youth cup by beating Arsenal in the final is a great achievement whatever the ages! It's a good achievement but you'd acknowledge that that wouldn't have been the likely outcome were it a truly level playing field. Ignore me, I just got fed up with hearing how amazing they were SOLELY ON THE BASIS that they would beat players often 2 or 3 years younger than themselves.

Manwell Pablo Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Hold on, I thought we won the Premier League not the FA Youth cup and I thought we beat the Mackems on penalties after it finished 2-2 not Arsenal.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Hold on, I thought we won the Premier League not the FA Youth cup and I thought we beat the Mackems on penalties after it finished 2-2 not Arsenal. As you well know, that is indeed the case and our right honourable friend has just got a bit overexcited.

I wouldn't call a 5 year old kid a certain boxing superstar of the future if he beat up his 3 year old sister.

BigGibbo Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 We beat Arsenal in the semi, and Sunderland in the final. That could work!

You just carry on being yourself. I've been politely asked to say nothing.
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 That could work! Of the Premier League play offs, we won the Premier League not the FA cup final. I think.
lookwhaticando Posted 5 November 2007 Posted 5 November 2007 Past Winners: FA Premier Academy League (Under-18) 2004-05 Blackburn Rovers U18s 2005-06 Southampton U18s 2006-07 Leicester City U18s Past Winners: FA Youth Cup 2005 Ipswich Town 3-2 Southampton after extra time 2006 Liverpool 3-2 Manchester City 2007 Liverpool 2-2 Manchester United Liverpool win after extra time; 4-3 on penalties ----------------- Manwell is correct... it was the FA Youth Premier League we won, not the FA Youth Cup. Clearly.
