Finn Claw Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 As fox in exile in thw big smoke the Citeh being on TV is a massive bonus, I thought with the arrival of Setanta I might get a few extra games this season too. Now I went to watch the Colcehster game in the Sports Bar, they decided that as Liverpool vs Blackburn was on Setanta they would show that on every screen except one behind a small bar upstairs. They also blasted out the Liverpool commentry so we had to sound. The same thing happened vs S****horpe - I went to a pub to wtach us but ended up watching Man Utd bs Villa. Rather than providing any further options Setanta just seems to mean that you can't escape from watching the big 4 even if you try. as a slight aside I was also applauled by how many fake scousers were in the bar, none of them had a liverpudlian accent. How people can support clubs that have nothing to do with where they come from / family have supported I have no idea. arhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! I hope this doesn't happen for the wolves/ cardiff games

Went to a few pubs in Llanrumney in the hope of watching the match but all I got was Liverpool on one side and Newport Gwent Dragons on the other At least they'll have the Cardiff game on
Matt Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Everyone in the pub I went wanted Leicester on barr the 4 plastic scousers.
James. Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 I don't think anyone should be particularly surprised that Premiership football is preferred to the shit we've been serving up on a weekly basis. (yeah, yeah APART from Chelsea!)
davieG Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 I don't think anyone should be particularly surprised that Premiership football is preferred to the shit we've been serving up on a weekly basis.(yeah, yeah APART from Chelsea!) Well I've just watched some Premiership shit - WHU - Bolton. Setanta was supposed to be for the fans' benefit to give us more choice but all it means is extra expense, more games moved and clashes against the Championship broadcasts. I wish these Euro and Goverment watch dogs would do something were it really counts like rip off ticket and refeshment prices. The fans have not benefitted one iota from the increased TV coverage and extra revenue and now the poor souls are bleating about a mid-season break.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 I thought about going to the Sports Bar in London but if I'd bothered going that far I might as well have gone to Colchester. In the end I saw four games yesterday - Arsenal v Manchester United, Northampton v Southend, Colchester v Leicester and Sevilla v Real Madrid. A rare day when I'm not at the Leicester game and I still managed to see a game in the flesh, to see Leicester play and see three or four of the best teams in the world.

I hope this doesn't happen for the wolves/ cardiff games I had the same problem mate. After wandering round about 9 different pubs I finally found it on at the Nell Gwynne near Covent Garden. Managed to catch the last half hour or so.
Guest Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 now the poor souls are bleating about a mid-season break.I am getting seriously pissed off with footballers. What about the countless thousands of blokes of a similar age who work full time, and then play 90 minutes on a Saturday and more often than not a Sunday too? Even if they are just playing for their local pub on a Sunday, these lads also are paying for the privilege of playing football. I am sure any one of those would snap off the arm of a professional for the chance to swap places and earn a fraction of what some of the greedy tossers are getting. The moaning prima-donas need to get a reality check or shut up.

Footballers in the Premier League particularly can expect to play 50-60+ games a season at an intensity that's not found anywhere else in the world, and to perform to their maximum potential in every one of those games. Thats why they're paid so much. Sure they shouldn't moan when they clear 6 figure sums per week for their trouble, but comparing the amateur game to the professional one is an entirely false comparison.

So they effectively only work part time!!!

No, they are paid so much because somebody with better negotiating skills has got them a good deal, and because people are prepared to thrown silly money around, but hey-ho.... Besides, I wasn't making a direct comparison as you suggest, but why shouldn't they be? My points are that there are plenty of people who would swap places with them, and that there are plenty of people who make more of an effort to play than the mollycoddled professional. I don't care if they are playing 50-60 games a season, they have the time and the backing to get themselves in the best state emotionally and physically to do that. If I had those advantages, I would expect a lot from myself in that position. I know people who narrowly missed out on a professional football career, and it's a fine line between making it and not making it. Rather than moaning about hard done I was, I would be counting my blessings. Going by what you say, it makes footballers even more pathetic when you look at other sports men and women who are at the top of their sport but have to 'enjoy' amateur status. Or non-sporting professions where people are earning stupid amounts of money for making bigger sacrifices. At the end of the day, if footballers are that good, and the public wants to see them in action doing what they are supposed to be good at, then isn't that what they went into the sport for? To play football and to entertain their public? So why moan about having to do what they are paid to do?

Still no one in the world playing football, should be getting 130,000 pounds a week. Why the fans get pissed off and boo them. Take the England team ... The big earners and get paid shed loads a week and they let us down.
Guest Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 the thing that annoys me is that footballers rarely train in the afternoons. its usually only in the mornings. So they effectively only work part time!!! Ah, but it's such a physically demanding role, and mentally tough too. If they want to be at their peak, then they have to spend their times sitting on their arses playing their Xboxes or sitting in bars or casinos chilling out.

ASH17LCFC Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 Elvis even admitted he can't be arsed to get up in the morning and spends most of his free time sleeping or on his ps2. Yet i bet he earns more then anyone on here. Plays crap on saturday and still pockets around 5000 grand doing so ... Don't even play now and thats a good thing.
ASH17LCFC Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 The fans are the only reason footballers get paid so much. If there wasn't any fans, they be no highly paid superstars ...
davieG Posted 4 November 2007 Posted 4 November 2007 The fans are the only reason footballers get paid so much. Not the ones that attend matches though - it's the TV coverage that produces the money and the attending fans that pay the pprice interms of ticket prices and altered kick -off times.
