The Reverend Posted 10 November 2007 Posted 10 November 2007 Yeah he isn't a captain, simple as. I just don't think we have any vocal leaders though, N'Gotty seems a standout for me Pure bollocks. You clearly didnt see him just before kick off. Just like all good players, good players need good players around them. No matter how good he may be, he cant turn the pile of shite we have into a football team. No chance.

The Reverend Posted 10 November 2007 Posted 10 November 2007 He was talking to all the players, clapping his hands and doing his best to gee them up. Exactly Bert. He's a natural leader, he cannot be blamed for his team mates inadequacies.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 10 November 2007 Posted 10 November 2007 Clemence and Wesolowski are too similar to play together unless they have some flying wingers to do the creative work for them. I've always said you need two defensive players and two attacking players in a midfield four. In an ideal world we'd have one attacking player and one defensive player, both of their quality. As it is, we have two extremely efficient defensive midfielders so we need to provide them with an outlet. Personally I'd like to see Hayes given a chance when fully fit.
Yaxx Posted 10 November 2007 Posted 10 November 2007 It's called keeping posession, there was no movement upfront and nobody out wide so instead of just launching the ball aimlessly he keeps hold of it. One of the things that really pissed me off today was about half way through the 1st half when we were passing it around at the back waiting for an opening and people started booing because we weren't hoofing it forward. We ended up putting about 10 passes together and Fryatt had a pretty tame effort from the edge of the area but it about as close as we came. Clemence is the only player in our team with any quality, he rarely gives the ball away but he needs people to pass to, especially out wide and when you have full backs that don't cross the half way line it's quite difficult. You must be bloody joking!
lcfc_jme Posted 10 November 2007 Posted 10 November 2007  You must be bloody joking! Yeah and it's such a good joke as well, because people actually fall for it. I mean, Clemence can't pass, he can't shoot, he can't tackle, he never talks and wasn't good enough to win Player of the Year for the Birmingham side that got promoted last season.
Yaxx Posted 10 November 2007 Posted 10 November 2007 Would we really be saying all this about Clem yesterday before this game. I dont think we would. One poor game he was included in and which not many players could work with, we slate him and moan? Why? Its clear hes an excellent player, he was being likened to Muzzy Izzet a few weeks ago... I appreciate many of us are angry and none moreso than me, but this is unfair. Hes a terrific player and cant remember a game before this where he was absolutely terrible... He has my support for now You're clearly pissed.

I mean, Clemence can't pass, he can't shoot, he can't tackle, he never talks and wasn't good enough to win Player of the Year for the Birmingham side that got promoted last season. Which of course is why they got rid of him eh? Get a grip.
lcfc_jme Posted 10 November 2007 Posted 10 November 2007 Which of course is why they got rid of him eh? Get a grip. ok yes, I'll get a grip. Players' Player of the Year and Player of the Year in one of last seasons promoted sides. He must be fooking awful. Incase your memory has left you, Brum were reportedly linked with a host of players, including Hossam Ghaly, who is better than Clemence. With the £750,000 we paid for Clem and taking him off of their wage bill, they'd have had more money available to try and prize Ghaly away from Spurs. Clemence is proven quality at this level. But what do I know, I need to get a grip and am making all of this up, aren't I? I despair sometimes, I really do.
Anish Posted 10 November 2007 Posted 10 November 2007 He must be regretting ever coming to this club, like most other players signed over the summer. He has proven that he's a class above, it seems like he's being dragged down to the level of those around him. One player doesn't make a team and when you've got no movement and no confidence in the players around you there's not much you can do.

Well fockin said mate.

potter3 Posted 10 November 2007 Posted 10 November 2007 Yes....rather like I despair watching him play shit. Once. Before he was injured and before we lost today when he, and the the rest of the team were crap everyone was saying how him and N'Gotty were the only players to prove they're worth what we paid etc. Complete over reaction to one poor performance.
lcfc_jme Posted 10 November 2007 Posted 10 November 2007 Yes....rather like I despair watching him play shit. You're either a wind-up merchant or you've been watching a different Stephen Clemence to everyone else. I'm watching a SC with an appreciation thread - not many others (only Fulop?) in our squad have or deserve one of those. A Stephen Clemence who has shite all around him he's having to attempt to make up for on a weekly basis. A Stephen Clemence who came 2nd in the Player of the Month polls on here in August (behind Weso) and September (behind Fulop). But you're right, yes. He has been shit.

Monk Posted 10 November 2007 Posted 10 November 2007 Today he sat far too close to the defence, and with Fryatt sitting forward, and Kenton a defender anyway, we just had no midfield at all. Attack or sod off.
Simi Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 Captain McAuley has a nice ring to it. Do not interpret that as being anti-Clemence-as-captain... because it's not. I'm just humouring you all. Basically, you love McAuley.
joely22 Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 We've missed Clemence. That's all i wanan say on this. You'll soon see. In my opinion, Clemence is the type of player fans hardly notice. He does more off the ball than on it. I agree with what he said.
lookwhaticando Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 Basically, you love McAuley. I'd be lying if I tried to deny it.
Ultra Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 In my opinion, Clemence is the type of player fans hardly notice. He does more off the ball than on it. I agree with what he said. Really? In recent games, including yesterday's, he's looked like a poor man's Gareth Williams..
Simi Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 I'd be lying if I tried to deny it. *checks for white writing* *sees nothing* ... I think you're sweepstake guess for top scorer McAuley will come in sometime soon.
Daz.I Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 Since his good start to the season he's done fook all he's captain and in a comfort zone now, kenton shouldn't have came off today he was our best player.
Bert Posted 11 November 2007 Posted 11 November 2007 1 good game and he's god.... 1 poor game and he's shit. Fickle or what. Everyone has bad games, but i guarentee, Clem will have more good games then he does bad.
