knightonfox Posted 8 March 2005 Posted 8 March 2005 I'm writing as a former crazy corner kopite from filbert street who is fed up with the atmoshphere in the 'kop' at filbert way. Think most would agree that we are becoming a laughing stock in championship for atmoshere at home. Seems to be pockets of 3 or 4 people singing older songs ie forever and ever, when your smiling etc and a few more that may joinh in with craig leveins blue n white army. unfortunately this chant is either sung at a ridiculuous pace or just turns into rythmic clapping. When mates and I start songs they just don't take off like they used to do in the old kop. We have tried at many games to keep chants of either caraig leveins blue n white army or leicester, leicester, leicester but people seem to get bored very quickly. I remember when at old filbo those chants would be song for sustained periods and you could see it pshycologically lifting the pleyers. Fair play to folk in L1 who manage to stand up all game and give singing a good go but from the kop you just can't here them. Me and mates are wondering whether it would be worth changing season tickets to that area next season. are any other former kopites doing the same and can L1 ever be made liker the old crazy corner at filbo that got the rest of the ground singing. I reckon for this to work properly there needs to be 200-300 people standing in that section whereas at the moment its probably only about 100. Surely filbert way isnt doomed to have a crap atmoshphere for ever?
knightonfox Posted 8 March 2005 Author Posted 8 March 2005 Don't reckon they'd want to move from the away fans. Is the banter in L1 similar to that with away fans in east stand at filbert street? Always see police diving into that section. Do people get chucked out for abusive songs these days and how many L1's used to be crazy crorner kopites??
Guest Daniel Posted 8 March 2005 Posted 8 March 2005 L1 is class, I love it. I moved half way through this season as ive had enough of the boring kop. You know its the best in L1 people.
dan_84 Posted 8 March 2005 Posted 8 March 2005 simple solution has to be move the kop down to the family enclosure end and send the family enclosure up the kop end. half the time L1 cant hear what the kop are singing, and vice versa.

Sparky Posted 8 March 2005 Posted 8 March 2005 i may move to l1 next season , my great teen memories were standing in pen 2 singing my heart out then i moved to pen 1 when it became all seater
Mark Posted 8 March 2005 Posted 8 March 2005 The club best prepare themselves for more failure then. If we can't generate any atmosphere then it's going to make it harder for players to perform at home for the YEARS ahead. The extra money spent on policing would seem like nothing when we return to the Premiership, but IF we go down, or stay in this league for 5 years, would avoiding this just to save money have really been worth it? No.
Foxes1884 Posted 8 March 2005 Posted 8 March 2005 One of the problems I feel is a lack of connection between the fans and players. There just aren’t any players who you feel is one of us and so deserving of our praise/singing of there name. When we had players we could all relate to like Walshy, Clarridge, Ian Marshall, Gerry, Bruno we had more songs and a better atmosphere. I think a major factor in this is the number of players we’ve had coming and going but with Levein forming a more stable team of players here for the long term I believe this will improve things. As stated above the separation of the “singers†hasn’t helped at all. At Filbert Street there was a concentration of fans who enjoyed to sing their hearts out and bant with the opposition fans. Now there’s small patches’ here and there often fighting against each other rather than adding their volume together. I believe there needs to be defined a singing section by the fans and club together preferably near the away fans but think the safe brigade will stop this.
Fac51 Posted 8 March 2005 Posted 8 March 2005 Totally agree with KnightonFox. I too was a regular in Pen3, then Pen2 and finally Pen1 at Filbo. I am sick of the sh*tty looks you get when you try and inject some passion (admittidly there is usually swearing, but we're in a football ground for ****s sake!!!). I dont understand why people wont sing??? The loudest song vs Gillingham recently was the one for Iwan. Ive been a regular since 1986 and we've had some sh*te seasons in that time, but this is definitely the worst for atmosphere. We had a relegation fight in the season when we stayed up on the last day vs Oxford Utd, I have no doubt that the atmosphere in the ground that day helped us stay up. I fear the worst if we go into the last couple of games needing a result. Whatever happens, my mates and I will be moving to L1 next season (it seems to the be general concensus of the people sitting around us - the few that try to start songs).
Cobbo Posted 8 March 2005 Posted 8 March 2005 L1 is becoming very tiresome. Full of morons it would seem at times who feel like getting on players backs. I have heard a worrying amount of racism around too. I for one will think strongly about moving next season. Wish they would put the Kop where the Family Stand is though.

I havn't heard a word of racism. I would never move from L1, moving there from the kop was the best move i've ever made.
Cobbo Posted 8 March 2005 Posted 8 March 2005 Sit on my row and you hear racism It's fair enough booing a bad performance, but when people get on players backs so easily it is annoying. Stewart the obvious case in point, he can do 10 things well and then one thing badly and people sing 'Stewart for Forest' Great stuff...
Guest Posted 9 March 2005 Posted 9 March 2005 I reckon for this to work properly there needs to be 200-300 people standing in that section whereas at the moment its probably only about 100. 76196 Then when the authorities close parts of the stadium we'll lose what little atmosphere we have. Plus, it'll be L1 that gets shut. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see terracing back, but other clubs have already been punished for persistent standing, and I'd hate to see that happen to us.
Ash Posted 9 March 2005 Posted 9 March 2005 People say L1 is the place to be , I would agree but i would say The top 10 rows in L1 is the place to be ... People say they sit in L1 but most sit in the boring part where everyone sits down ! Cobbo if you maybe moved up to where the atmosphere is in L1, your opinion may differ

Mad Dog Posted 9 March 2005 Posted 9 March 2005 There is a bit of racism in L1 which is pretty terrible but nobody would deny there was a bit at Filbert Street either. Only one or two people doing it not like the whole thing does it.
Scow Posted 9 March 2005 Posted 9 March 2005 I can only echo Sam's comments regarding L1. I'm becoming increasingly fed up with some of the pathetic chanting that goes on. A large proportion of fans in that area get on the players' back far too easily, especially Jordan Stewart. I don't see how chants of: 'Stewart for Forest' is going to help when he's enduring a hard time. Also, some of the chants lack any sort of imagination. 'We heard you slept with your sister' is aimed towards any set of fans, how original is that? I'm not sure where I'm sitting next season, it depends on how it goes...

CasinoGee Posted 19 March 2005 Posted 19 March 2005 I've recently been assigned the task of finding out how to go about organising and designating part of Vale Park (I'm a Vale fan) by one of our directors. I've been searching for some information on t'internet and I found this. Have you any ideas of how to go about creating a designated area for fans who wish to sing as you seem to be trying to do the same as me, thanks.

Take a stand... put the away fans in one half of it, home in the other. Sorted. Unreserved seating too
CasinoGee Posted 19 March 2005 Posted 19 March 2005 I was on about how to go about organising it but oh well
davieG Posted 19 March 2005 Posted 19 March 2005 I was on about how to go about organising it but oh well 80741 Have a word with Sunderland or their fans, they created a 'singing area' when they moved to the SOL, not sure how good it turned out.
