First test Indians look to have come to Australia to win rather than just be competitive.

It ended 337-9. Kumble took 5-84.

Fair play to India for fighting back. I watched the first session and they were absolutely battered.

But only Hayden made a big score on what looked a decent pitch.

The Indian middle order will be the key to the outcome of the game. If they prosper, they could give the side a big first innings lead. However, should they fail, the Aussies could make them pay by setting them a massive target in the second innings.

At the moment the game is quite evenly poised, which is something not too often said after the first day of a Test in Oz.

True wasn't a good day for us, after the we got thru the first hour none for i thought we would post around 600 as the "G" is know to be kind to batsman especially this year.

Will you be wearing City colours?

I'm an MCC member so i will be wearing a suit watching behind the glass drinking copious amounts of cold beer.

But i have been on TV at the cricket plenty of times when i was younger as used to sit where the players race was trying to get Autographs and on a couple of occasions a used drink bottle and a telling off for ass slaping Steve Waugh :)

I'm not surprised. You dominated the game today, although you were helped enormously by Dravid throwing a massive sulk at being made to open the innings.

Normal service was resumed. Barring intervention from the weather, a fifteenth successive Aussie Test win surely beckons..

Dravid was so boooooooooooooooorrrring he took 40 balls or something to get of the mark

Good performance from you today.

Aye, Dravid is the unmovable block when on form. He just blocks & prods with the occasional boundary. Very slow run scorer but gets the job done.

I can see you Aussies getting a lead of around 450 and leaving yourselves a day and a half to bowl them out.

Well this theory was wrong in the end.

Comfortable win for Australia in the end.

Very poor batting by India and a great all round display from Australia.

Yeah India just never looked intrested today they showed no patience, rash shots just crap

I was quite surprised by how crap they were. They've usually been competitive against you in both home and away series in recent years.

Whether they were complacent after their recent wins over us and Pakistan, or just under-prepared for this Test is something only they can answer..

Lucky bastards!!! :)

:giggle:

As a side note the Indians had that much support at the cricket i couldn't catch a Taxi any where and then i went to get a drink at 7/11 that was closed glad the test is over now

I agree pal. Was a very good performance although you were slightly lucky. Symonds should have been given out for 30 on day 1 whereas Dravid and Ganguly shouldn't have been given out today.

Very good record though, well played!

Harbhajan banned for racial slur

January 07, 2008 INDIA spinner Harbhajan Singh has been banned for three Tests after being found guilty of racial abuse for allegedly calling black Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds "a monkey", the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced.

The 27-year-old Harbhajan was found guilty under the ICC's Code of Conduct following the clash with Symonds on the third day of the acrimonious second Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, which Australia won by 122 runs.

The charge was laid by match umpires Mark Benson and Steve Bucknor after Australia captain Ricky Ponting had accused Harbhajan of making a "monkey" comment at Symonds, the only black player in the home team.

Following a four-hour hearing held at the SCG, match referee Mike Procter delivered his judgment.

He found the case against Harbhajan proved and informed the off-spinner, who has collected 255 wickets from 62 Tests, that he was imposing a ban of three Tests.

The contentious incident occurred when Harbhajan was batting with Sachin Tendulkar during India's first innings on Saturday.

It was alleged that Harbhajan had an argument with Symonds, during which time he used the word 'monkey', said an ICC statement.

"I am satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt that Harbhajan Singh directed that word at Andrew Symonds and also that he meant it to offend on the basis of Symonds' race or ethnic origin," Procter said.

The offence falls under 3.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which refers to players or team officials "using language or gestures that offends, insults, humiliates, intimidates, threatens, disparages or vilifies another person on the basis of that person's race, religion, gender, colour, descent, or national or ethic origin".

In accordance with the Code of Conduct, the maximum penalty that could have been imposed for this offence was a ban of four Tests or eight one-day internationals.

Australia defeated India by 122 runs in a sensational finish to the second Test on Sunday to take a 2-0 lead in the four-match series, but the aftermath of the clash was dominated by accusations of bad sportsmanship and poor umpiring.

Harbhajan will miss the final two matches of the current series with the third Test beginning in Perth on January 16.

Harbhajan, who made 63 in the first innings, had denied he abused Symonds.

"I did not say anything racist. I do not know what is going on," he said on Saturday.

"I haven't done anything, we were just talking. It wasn't even sledging, it was just normal talk out on the cricket field. I was concentrating on my batting."

Symonds was subjected to monkey gestures from sections of the crowd during the last game of a seven-match one-day series in Mumbai in October, after earlier receiving similar abuse during the fourth game at Vadodara.

Paceman Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, who is not touring Australia, was involved in on-field verbal clashes with Symonds in the India series.

Racism in cricket has been a problem in the past.

Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist accused Pakistan counterpart Rashid Latif of racial abuse during the 2003 World Cup in South Africa, but Latif was cleared because of a lack of evidence.

Australian Darren Lehmann was the first player to be banned for racial abuse when he was suspended for five one-dayers over a racial remark in earshot of the Sri Lankan dressing room during the 2002/2003 season.

India suspend tour of Australia

Geez you Indians are Sooks

January 07, 2008 THE Indian cricket board (BCCI) has suspended its team's tour of Australia pending the outcome of an appeal for banned spinner Harbhajan Singh.

Harbhajan was suspended on Sunday by the International Cricket Council for three tests after being found guilty of racially abusing Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds during the second Test in Sydney.

Harbhajan has denied the claims and the BCCI said the tour would be suspended until his appeal had been heard.

“The Board will appeal to the International Cricket Council to review the decision of the Match Referee and suspend its operation till the appeal is disposed of,†the BCCI said in a statement.

“The Indian Board realises the game of cricket is paramount but so too is the honour of the Indian team and for that matter every Indian.

“To vindicate its position, the Board will fight the blatantly false and unfair slur on an Indian player.â€

The Indian team were due to travel to Canberra to prepare for their next tour match but returned to their hotel rooms after sitting on their bus for two hours. Australia lead the four-match series 2-0.

just read this- very poor decision to threaten to abandon the tour.

Harbajan guilty or not should have confined his remarks to calling Symons "a cheating Australian **** " that would have been perfectly reasonable- he is!

The Aussies may have bent the rules but there is no evidence to show they broke them.

India's behaviour is sour grapes of the worst order. After the way in which they beat England last summer they have NO right whatsoever to squeal about "bad umpires". What goes around comes around.

Australia have been the better side - simple as. India should acknowledge that fact and try to build a team capable of winning at least one test in the series. Throwing toys out of the pram will not do themselves or their country any favours at all.

Sounds like the Pakistan ball tampering attitude again.
