That was slightly different. The umpire made insinuations against Pakistan without evidence to back them up.

In this case, the umpires had evidence against Harbhajan and the match referee acted on it.

It's slightly ironic, to say the least, to see that the Aussies have been the target rather than the instigators of racial abuse.

But the ICC have acted according to their procedures (agreed by ALL the Test-playing countries) and it is deplorable that India are seeking to undermine them.

That is ironic...or is it funny??

When i read about this on Sat night(I think!) i presumed the Aussies had givn the Indians some racist stick.

I must admit i laughed when heard it was the other way round.

P.S

I would like to say that on a serious note, racist abuse is not funny and does not make you a hard man.

This is all going to get out of hand again I feel.

Some of the protests that are going on in India are ridiculous with the burning of statues of the umpires.

If Singh did call Symonds a monkey, then quite frankly he should be dealt with harshly. Symonds has received monkey chants from India fans before, so it could be related to previous incidents.

I see India have already responded with a counter argument!

ponting made the thing official and is now acting as if he is the innocent party. Typical australians - they can give out but can't take it - bunch of twats

India are comeing across as sore lossers If Symonds or any other player for that matter Racially abused an Indian they would be calling for a life ban :frusty:

But to be fair, has it been CONFIRMED that Singh called Symonds a 'monkey' or what ever it was he allegedly said?

I aint defending that but the Aussies are tha masters of sledging and perhaps(Im not making excuses) this is an incident where its gone over the top??

Admitedly The Aussies are one of the Greatest teams ever BUT are pompus arrogant bastards though....

At the end of an over (symonds wasn't bowling) Singh called over and used his hands to Beckon Symonds over to him and Singh went over to Symonds who was around Mid on at the time. And quite clearly said a few things Symonds did even take any notice and keep walking to his feilding postion. Then Ponting had words with the Singh and Tendulkar, Then the umpires. The Umpires had words with Singh. Then the next over Singh went over to Symonds and appeared to Apoligize and gave him a little wave as if to say sorry Where again Symonds just walk passed him stoned faced.

During the whole incident the only person who looked hot-headed was Singh, were as everyone else was just seemed cool calm and collected.

In my opinion i think he did Call him something because Singh was pretty wounded up about something and was very angry.

Also is this one of the first cases of Black/Black sporting racism cases?

So you reckon its been abit OTT by the umpires/media?

As you say it seems Singh apologised and they played on without no big deal

I reckon it probably is the first black/black racism row in sport.

Not ever...cos my wife calls me a little brown twat on a regular occurence. :)

P.S Umpire Steve Bucknor has been replaced by Billy Bowden for the third Test between Australia and India following a row that threatens the series. ......Funny that eh!!!

Racisim is just something you just don't do i think if he did it 3 tests is not enough.

I've played Cricket most of my life and either been a gobby loud mouth kepper or in Slip, and there is plenty of stuff you can say to get under your opponets skin with out being racist its un-called for in my opinion.

I want to meet your wife Raj she sounds funny :giggle:

Agreed. A bit of sledging is all part of the game but racism takes it too far. I agree that 3 tests isn't long enough.

How's this there is set to be a hearing for Brad Hogg who called someone a bastard and it is tipped he will get a 2-4 match suspension

Bastard = 2-4 matches

Monkey = 3 matches

How the hell does this add up :dunno:

Yeah but NOTHING has been verified on both counts has it?

You'd have thought with all the Sky Cameras and microphones etc....they would have picked up on the'monkey' chant.

Feel sorry for Buckner as i've always thought him to be one of the best umpires.

This whole thing has been blown out of proportion.. all the parties are to blame, the main reason india are so upset is that the match umpire took the word of the australian players as fact over the word of the indian players... looking at the facts of this game 3 of the players who heard the comments were clarke (who didnt walk when he clearly edged a ball) symonds (ditto) ponting (who seems to think he is the umpire by raising his own finger and call duboius catches) in that situation it was there word againts tendulkars and singh, whilst singh is no saint he was found guilty on the words of these players over his own and tendulkars (hardly a fair trial).

As per usual india have gone overboard.. counter arguements and asking for umpire changes is aweful, infairness bucknor has been well past it for some years now but even so india has no right to demand such stupid measures, and they are being just sore losers..

Finally the reason why india can do all this is because they bring somewhere close to 70% of icc's overall turnover...

India are back in the series, after beating the Aussies in Perth.

Could they square things up next week?

I'd sooner back Tendulkar.

He's way overdue for a Test ton, and it may just come in his last game in Australia.
