I'm rather fond of my CD collection and I'm loathe to move away from it. Vinyl and CDs are tangible and nice to look at in big long lines on shelves. These days, I'm such a miserable tightwad that I wait for a CD to drop in price, or rake through eBay for bargains. £10+ for a new CD? His Master's Arse, more like.

I've got the odd bit of vinyl (mainly 7" singles c.1986-1990), but no record player to play them on any more.

I use the old computer machine box to "fill in the gaps" in my collection - particularly cheesy singles that you never quite got round to buying first time, but then can't be arsed to purchase the album. I just burn them to CDs though as I don't have an mp3 player.

There is nothing like a good rake through a second hand (CD) shop. A real pleasure in life.

I started out doing my own radio mixtapes... on real-deal analog tapes!!! That was waaay back in the 80ies!

Recording was always a pain in the ass, because you could never be sure when the commercial break, moderator interferences or breaking news were coming in...

I still own a few CDs, but the amount has diminished in the past few years.

I have had not-so pleasant experiences with illegal downloads and am now a converted and mostly faithful iTunes Store follower.

Btw, does anyone know an easy and cheap method of how to convert old tapes and vinyl into mp3 files?

Got about 200 LPs and 50 7" singles and 100 12" singles. A few cassettes, but they just don't last - I've lost, had stolen from my car, broke, more cassettes than I actually now own. I DO have a turntable and an amp with a phono in, so I can play them, but cassettes are only playable in my car

However, CDs now are my main source and I THEN like to download them to the PC, cos I'm lazy  *sobs* I'm sorry!

Vinyl all the way. The sound is so much more expansive. You can always turn vinyl into mp3, flac and burn it to a CD so it wins handsdown
