Tommy G Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 Video replays? Will solve everything.. It's got to come in sooner or later
davieG Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 Video replays? Will solve everything..It's got to come in sooner or later I'm pretty sure video replays of players arguing with the ref is something Sky are thinking of turning into Saturday replacement for Soccer AM, Soccer FO!
Joe. Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 Video replays? Will solve everything..It's got to come in sooner or later I don't agree with video replays for anything other than goal-line decisions to be honest. It'd ruin the game as we know it if they came into action.
Bert Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 No. This is not what I'm trying to say. That is not acceptable, it should be dealt with. It's not, simple. When a bad decsion has been made, we've seen often enough Hume show his displeasure at it. Not always in a violent way, that's what I'm referring to. That's Hume shwoing a displeasure though. He doesn't approach the ref, he just goes a bit mad.
Sparky Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 Great idea , just like moving free kicks forward 10 yards for moaning was but like that rule refs will become too inconsistant with it and within 2 years it will be scrapped again
Fez of Mahrez Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 Great idea , just like moving free kicks forward 10 yards for moaning was but like that rule refs will become too inconsistant with it and within 2 years it will be scrapped again Exactly. Can't see it working. I think players should be able to approach refs but it's when you get three or four surrounding them that it gets ridiculous. The big clubs are the worst for it. You don't see it as much in our league.
TrickyTrev Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 Is there any point - get on with the game FFS he aint going to change his ruling. It's bad enough that most free kicks take about 5 minutes to set up, only to most of them go flying over the cross bar. Yeah there is a point. The ref is there to serve the players to allow it to be played to the rules. I would hate football to go down the path of Rugby where the referee is more important than the players, he doesn't have to bother communicating with them, it makes the players look like school children. Especially when they are given microphones. Personally I find the whole "gentlemanly" aspect of that sport to be repulsive, grown men not even willing to put their point across just out of respect of authority, utter bollocks. Swearing and chasing after referees should be a yellow card. Communicating with him is a vital part of the game. The rules are already in place to deal with the problem, if they were enforced properly there wouldn't be a problem.

Well this discussion wouldn't be taking place if what you say exists was working. I don't don't disagree with the principles involved. Unfortunately a high proportion of Premier League prima donna's are just that and have shown that they are incapable of acting like adults, e.g Rooney & Terry's recent childish tantrums and for that reason alone deserve to be treated like children. Yellow cards have little or no effect on these teams because they have such large squads and as for fining a club like Chelsea £40k for not controlling players well it's plain laughable.
lookwhaticando Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 The offending player or captain. simple. The offending player only if he's invited by the ref. I find that the non-offending players are the most offensive (goalkeepers running 50 yards to join a scrap in the centre circle).
David O'Leary Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 No. This is not what I'm trying to say. That is not acceptable, it should be dealt with. It's not, simple. When a bad decsion has been made, we've seen often enough Hume show his displeasure at it. Not always in a violent way, that's what I'm referring to. As a referee myself, you can still get a decision right, but still get called every name under the sun by the team the decision it has gone against. Well done the F.A, there's always a first time for everything
The Reverend Posted 30 January 2008 Posted 30 January 2008 Will never work. Firstly, this will mean that the Chelsea's and Manu's will be having players sent off or whatever for arguing with the ref- this is not gonna happen - refs aint got the balls, same as they aint got the balls to give penalties to the opposition at the kop end at Anfield, and Man utd's percentage of penalties at the Stretford End is out of sync with other grounds. Coincidence? No. They are scared of the big teams. This rule will be used to punish the little clubs like most other rules in play.

The rule will become like so many others that have come before it, 6 second rule etc. I don't blame the referees completely. The FA have so much to answer for, but yet they are still making new rules and excuses for themselves.

The FA have so much to answer for, but yet they are still making new rules and excuses for themselves. Its the same reason as why they wont bring in video replays. I dont mean the whole hog, just even goal line replays - it will be able to remove the clear bias toward the bigger clubs. It's a shame football has got itself into this shape. and why it will never really be a fair playing field. I actually believe that the only way to stop this nonsense (rushing to the ref) is to issue a a straight red (they would soon stop doing it), but that is far too OTT and again, who is responsible for rushing the ref most of the time?! The big clubs players! You cant really blame the referees. At the end of the day they are only being told what to do by the F.A.
