Darkzzz_ Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 I am a massive fan of Italian and Spanish football as im sure most of you will have gathered by now. I just wanted to know what you opinion is on this: What League is the best? I mean in terms of goals per game, creativity and general game play!! I would say that Serie A has been the best over the last couple of seasons. Followed by La Liga and then the Premiership. If you really do watch these games then you will know how good the football is in them leagues, i think the Premiership is nowhere near as good in terms of quality of play, but obviously the crowds here are a lot higher for the lesser clubs such as sunderland than say siena...etc If you look at every club in Serie A for example... They all have Italian owners and Italian managers. I think this contributes to them being so successful at club and international level, nobody can deny how successful they have been. If you look at the games in Serie A, the games are always quite close... Always a high scoring game somewhere down the line, and the football played is out of this world at times.... I wonder if our game could learn anything off these countrys.... I think we are to stubborn as a nation to think we maybe wrong and admiting that!! We are so behind in terms of Club structures, youth setups, etc. The youth setups out in Italy at the moment are producing some quality kids... Im not saying we are not producing these types of players but i definetly feel we are behind!! Anyway this is just my opinion, i would be interested to see what you think!
lildave3 Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 For me personally it's the Premiership. This could well be down to me watching no Serie A matches and only Real Madrid games occasionally from La Liga though.
SamL Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 For me personally it's the Premiership. This could well be down to me watching no Serie A matches and only Real Madrid games occasionally from La Liga though. Agreed. Atmosphere wise, I'd say La Liga and Serie A are the best. Quality wise, probably the Premier League. It's a tough one but as I don't watch European football a great deal, I'd go with the Premier League.
Super Arj Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 for entertainment.. the championship where else do you see the leader lose against a team in the relegation zone for quality... it has to be spain there is an increasing amount of quality in the teams in the top 15 of the la liga
LeeCovFox Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Agreed. Atmosphere wise, I'd say La Liga and Serie A are the best. Quality wise, probably the Premier League. It's a tough one but as I don't watch European football a great deal, I'd go with the Premier League. For me, its always been Serie A. I prefer the style of football, I enjoy watching the tactical contests. Because of this I find the games more entertaining. La Liga comes second for me, and the Premiership third, but I love watching them all if I'm honest.

I've never noticed fantastic atmosphere's in Spain to be honest That's maybe because I sometimes watch Barca or Real Madrid games and their stadiums are full of tourists I don't know. But English Premiership atmospheres are pretty tough to beat. From reports I've heard Germany is pretty immense. Football wise it has to be the Premiership.

You should all really try and check Serie A out... You will change your mind about the Prem being the best. I hate to say it, because i obviously want our leagues to be the best... But the reality is we are not!

God i'm glad Andy (SUAS) won't see this
SamL Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Really? From reports I've heard Germany is pretty immense. Football wise it has to be the Premiership. Yeah, German grounds have great atmospheres. I was trying to think which country had the loudest stadiums and for some reason I thought of Spain. Can't say I've experienced it though and I don't watch an awful lot of International football, it was just a thought. Atmosphere? Spain? If you want atmosphere, then Germany is probably the best. God i'm glad Andy (SUAS) won't see this I won't tell if you don't Ok, I seem to have forgotten about Germany. My bad.
WetFlannel Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 I can't stand serie A. You have the big teams, which this season is pretty much only Inter. Then whats left? Nothing really. AC Milan are falling apart, Roma aren't nothing special really and Juventus are still rebuilding. The rest of the teams are pretty poor. They do have some under-rated players, such as Suazo a few years ago. How he didn't move to a top team before this season is beyond me.
Simi Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 Nothing is touching Germany regarding atmosphere and entertainment in the stands. If it wasn't for the Italian culture at the moment it would be very close. But that does let them down.

SamL Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 How come no one has mentioned the SPL ? Blue Square North is what it's all about

Manwell Pablo Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 A massive fan of Italian football, that can't spell Serie A . What is the best league in quality in regards to players and tactics etc is totally different to what is actually the best division to sit down and watch. It's also dependant on what type of football you want to see, someone like Thracian for example wouldn't be able to stomach Italian football as it's slower, less physical, less instanctle (if thats even a word) and more about technique and thought. As someone who has been to quite a few European grounds it's also a question of whether or not your talking on TV or actuall live games. Then there are other things to consider such as atmosphere, ticket prices etc it's a debate that could go on forever Looking at the overall leagues, it's hard to say, I think we have the best top three or four teams. Real Madrid and Barce and quite the forces they were a few years ago, and the Italians are still recovering from the Calciopoli scandel. Looking down the leagues though I don't think teams like Siena, Depor or Livorno would have much trouble staying out of the Premier Leagues relegation zone. I'd be pretty hard pushed to say which league I enjoy watching the most it all depends on how I'm feeling, I think I would have to say the Premier League, it's what introduced me to football in the first place and despite my best efforts it is still what I watch the most. The best match day I've actually experinced as a netural was watching Malaga, which was quite a few years ago, I didn't have to pay for anything which helped :-D. Berlin may possible of run it close had I not nearly died of Hypothermia, and if the first half hadn't been totally ruined by a snow down pour. But what people say about German supporters is true, they don't stop singing.
Manwell Pablo Posted 10 February 2008 Posted 10 February 2008 The championship is better than the SPL. Very Debatable, and disrespectful for that matter.

You have got to be at a Milan derby to really see some atmosphere!! That was the best for me, followed by Barcelona vs Athletico Madrid then Lyon v PSG.... Like i said above i am not here trying to convert people, i am saying what i think and you lot are allowed to have your say which is what the place is all about after all!! I just hate fans that slate other football leagues, when they know nothing about the respective league they are slating!! If people just take time to watch a couple of games here and there and go and experience these matches for themselves then they can make there own minds up on what they like or dislike!

Oh I totally agree, I've had to defend Italian football on here many times, in one extreme case against one bright spark who said Italian football should be liquadated.

I have had to defend Italian football all my life! People need to think or in this case watch before they open there mouths. Someone said above they cant stand Serie A! Fair enough. Thats there opinion. But for entertainment it beats the Prem any day. The Prem lost its enterainment when we went down!! Until we are back thats when it will be good again... Oh i am Fickle!!

Ultra Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 Technically, Serie A then La Liga. The Premier League is a poor third. MOTD2 last night made a point of highlighting the amount of aimless hoofball even in a game involving two of the big 4.
Darkzzz_ Posted 11 February 2008 Author Posted 11 February 2008 League Two as it's the toughest in the world. It really is a difficult league that. Not as difficult as Blue Square Conference North. The mighty Kettering Town marching on....
act smiley Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 I love the Bundesliga so very, very, much.
