If I were Fryatt

Goals per game ratio

Fryatt- Games=24 Goals=3

0.125

Hayles- Games=8 Goals=2

0.25

DJ- Games=22 Goals=4

0.18

Howard- Games=8 Goals=2

0.25

Hume- Games=33 Goals=7

0.21

The stats tell their own story. Hume has scored more goals (in more games), at a higher rate than Fryatt, mostly being deployed on the right wing.

Think about who's likely to be playing for the opposition.

Then work out what those opponents are likely to hate.

With the pension-seeking Dublin in central defence for Norwich, we need strikers with strength and pace to deal with him.

Unfortunately Fryatt has neither of these qualities, at least at Championship level.

Who has Fryatt been playing against and under which manager?

Fryatt played many of his games under Megson, when, if you recall, our primary objective was to concede 0, and scoring was a secondary aim. Campbell scored 2 of his goals in an attacking Martin Allen side.

Fryatt has also played many games ridiculously out of position - left wing, right wing, in the hole. Hume at least has the attributes to play there and be effective whereas Fryatt does not.

Steve Howard's goals have come against Coventry and Blackpool, whereas Fryatt has scored against both Villa and Stoke, and as for Barry Hayles, my mum could have done a more convincing job of tucking the ball away against Palace.

Hume takes free kicks - granted its a skill but it gives him opportunities to score regardless of the position he is playing.

As I keep saying he's not the Messiah but he's got to be worth a go?!

We could talk about variants all day long (different manager etc..), but when push comes to shove, Fryatt has played probably the most games as an orthodox striker out of the whole team, and has the worst goals to games ratio. Thats what decides a strikers position in the team, and thats why he wont get his chance soon.

So you're saying that we can't take variants into account? So we just deduce whatever you want from the statistics? To the uneducated mind, Ali Daei was a better striker than Alan Shearer because he scored more international goals - but Shearer wasn't playing shit teams. Statistics lie unless you look behind them.

If you're telling me that Fryatt has played more games up front than DJ this season then you need your head examined

Dion Dublin is a striker.

He's playing at the back again now?

A bit of a different story dont you think? These are two players that are playing in the same position, for the same club, in the same time period

As for your last remark, i will refer you back to the stats ive pointed out. 24 to DJ's 22. For Fryatt, he probably played once or twice on the wing, and DJ when he came on against Blackpool, took up a wing role, so thats Fryatt 22 DJ 21 according to my maths.

Goals, goals, goals.

Spot on and I doubt he'd be properly match fit at this time anyway. The best case for him is a place on the bench.

Yeah thats obviously the case when no one else can score recently, he deserves a game the way the other strikers have been playing recently, steve howard couldnt score in a barrell of fannies at the moment.

Didn't Steve Howard score our last goal?

I personally saw Fryatt on the wing against QPR, and listened to him taking up a similar role against Southampton. I also saw him play in the hole/centre mid against Colchester. I've been at uni for most of the season but it strikes me that if I've seen him play about 5 times and he's been playing out of position 60% of the time, there's probably been one or two more instances of him playing in the wrong role.

Absolutely it's a different story - wait a minute! That's a variant! We're not allowed variants remember?

For all you Fryatt fans. (and that doesn't follow that I am not) please understand that we don't have the luxury of time for him to come good. Coupled with the fact that Holloway's direct approach will do him no good whatsoever. Holloway bought Howard to fit in with his style.

well last time he played for us, 2 mins he almost scored...... so doesn`t he deserve a game????

I'd be on the first train out of Leicester.

We need someone who is going to knock in the chances when the ball drops in and around the penalty area and yet Ollie perseveres with Steve 'donkey' Howard, Iain 'headless chicken' Hume and Barry 'OAP' Hayles.

Fryatt may not have the greatest goalscoring record but what he needs is a run in the first team. Last season he was totally disrupted by a load of injuries.

What's more he encourages us to play good football - he's not particularly big so no high balls and he's not quick so none over the top. He'll encourage us to pass through teams as he's good with his back to goal and brings others into the game well.

The sooner Ollie sees that the man to get us out of this mess is currently his fifth choice striker the better.

Totally 100% agree mate but unless there is a heap of injuries Fryatt doesn't look like he'll get his a deserved chance. :(

Its no good playing Fryatt under Holloway I'm afraid. Clash of styles

Well then, the answer is simple; get rid of Holloway, and the hoofball he appears to favour.

Fryatt should be playing, don't understand why he was dropped as the few games he played he was looking a class above the rest of the players. Yes - he hasn't proved himself as a goalscorer but he creates alot. I think he should be played behind the front two (i think Hayles and Hume) and he can hold the ball up and create. He was looking sharp and confident then he gets dropped!!!!!!!!!! Doesn't make sense to me.

Forget the wingers, and play Weso, Oakley and Clemence in midfield, with Fryatt playing just in front of them. No more hoofball.

Hume was the only player in my opinion who looked capable of changing the game at Watford last night, we don't seem to have players who are capable of changing the game, we have no characters in the team!

Intresting way to look at it.

Fryatt should be behind DJ Campbell, Ian Hume and Steve Howard in the pecking order. Whether he should be behind Sir Baz is debateable, and that entirely depends on if Matty can/will pull his finger out.

I said it a few times already - Those of you who want him in the team will be the same ones that will be moaning after a game or two that Fryatt is slow, can't head, can't shoot from distance, no physical strength etc. Do you lot have a short memory? The lad has been garbage consistently for a long time now.

If Fryatt ever succeeds in the Championship it won't be with us. He needs a fresh start somewhere else for his own sake.

If we had a team that could create chances then Fryatt is worth a go in the team, we don't produce enough in open play so we will have to play to a few more simple strengths. Howard brings an aerial presence, DJ some pace. I can't see past those two up front right now.

I like hume and fryatt but i'm not sure how to accommodate them.

Well the majority of games he's played that ive seen him play (every home + 1/2 away), he's been the main striker.

And he's been garbage, as Benzema rightly says.

The only game that i've seen where he's looked any good was against Villa.

I was at Watford and DJ Campbell and Howard did not seem to read each other at all, at least Fryatt and Hume can read each other. I have always thought Fryatt deserves his place in the team. It'll take him afew games to get back to the form he was showing before he was dropped but in my opinion he is well worth the chance as the other partnerships don't seem to be working.

Fryatt is talented and I am convinced in the right team he would shine. Im not sure if that will ever happen with us so maybe its best we get rid of him whilst he still is of value although I presume Walsall will have a decent sell-on clause?

15% if I remember correctly.

Maybe we should've accepted that offer from Wolves in the summer. Hindsight is a great thing.
