Lillehamring Posted 20 February 2008 Author Posted 20 February 2008 I... don't... get them? ok, well, the second one (the bridge) there's nothing to get, cartoons don't all have to make you laugh, that is the point of posting the second one, to show that in six simple diagrams, with anthropomorphic characters, you can tell a story, express emotion and encourage the reader to think. the first page, well what is not to get... the book 'mjau mjau' (cat noise in norwegian) puts well known characters into these anthropomorphic shells and casts them in every day life so: 1. you have dracula about to be stabbed through the heart, but they hear the ice cream van, and stop for ice cream... 2. the second one recreates the darth vader/skywalker scene with two french men, thus lukes reaction... 3. again, darth vader, the point is that why would DV be answering a personal add, but then he gives up, cause he knows deep down he is an evil overlord... 4. a fairly standard joke, but made absurd by the fact that a skeleton is taking a shower. ok, i appreciate that it's not pant wetting funny, but then i love peanuts (the comic strip by schultz ), and that is rarely hilarious, and it also has that similar sort of gloomyness to it. the cartoons are working with absurdities to reflect the mundanity of the given situations, he has done loads of stuff - hemmingway, for example, is fabulous with modernist authors/poets cast as dogs and rabbits, they are so simple but so expressive... just trying to give people an insight into something very creative and different, if you like cartoons or graphic novels, they are well worth investigating...
