How to set up a football team to attack

Just little nuances I may or may not have rightly picked up upon. For example, I once stated that I saw nothing wrong with building a team from the back, you took this to mean I was an exponent of negative football.

Long ago I did think of you as negative but that doesn't mean I didn't accept your response that you weren't a dourist at all but simply thought there needed to be a "sensible balance" in a team, as I recall your words.

At the end of the day, I want to enjoy going to games again. I want to feel proud, and I want other fans to look at us and say that they want a team to be like ours. We've had it in the past, yet we swing from one extreme to another! We are so cyclical, I'm starting to feel sick!

In fact, we're not the only club with a completely flawed system.

One thing I can certainly agree with though is that it's time to bring Gradel back. He's seemed to have flourished out on loan and perhaps it's time to see if he can re-produce that here?

This is my approach too. Fez is talking enough sense in here for the 3 of us. Occasionally Mablo chips in with a pearler too, so we're free to do as we please, worry-free.

I might vent my spleen. Sounds fun. Plus, it's be a use for my spleen, which seems to do fu ck all else.

Frankly we just don't play football, I watch teams in the lower leagues and I find myself saying, almost monotonously why can't we do simple things like that.

Like movement off the ball when in possession

Like movement when we take a throw in

Like defenders looking to be available for the quick out from the goalie

Like the goalie looking for quick out to his defenders

Like players looking to receive a return pass

Like players moving into space having passed the ball

Like moving out of defence en-mass and quickly

Like having bit of innovation from free kicks, corners, throw-ins

Like taking the ball down on their chest or knee

I see all this even in parks football but rarely see it at LCFc and haven't done for 4 years or more. It's all basic stuff, occasionally I think fook me they've finally seen the light but then the next game it's back to blind man's bluff.

You can add to that list "control, pass and shoot with both feet"

Again, should be basic stuff. I can do it and I'm a 42 year old lard arse. The only "professionals" we've had in recent memory capable of doing it are Fryatt and Gareth Williams, both of whom get/got pushed out by the scrapping, athletic hacker types that currently fill our team.

I used to come over from Australia and take in 9 or 10 games a season. These days I still go to England, but I can hardly be bothered going to Leicester. It's not even the results that put me off, its the quality of the football, which on the whole is absolutely atrocious. I'm sick of seeing games where there's two shots and the odd goalmouth scramble. I've been to games we've won and still come out feeling like I've had my fingernails pulled.

Whatever happened to flair and good old fashioned "skill"? (thats "technique" for the youngsters out there)

Looking back to the old days (I know it is boring), but under O'Neill and Adams we scored plenty of goals and created plenty of chances. Why? Because we used the players we had effectively, rather than turn the players we had got into players they are not. O'Neill had two wingers who were prepared to run at defenders and cross the ball in, giving the big man upfront a use. Adams did the same in the First Division.

I don't care if Hayes and Gradel are young, they are prepared to do things, beat people and create chances. We need that in the team now. It would be much more effective than the two centre-backs playing it long everytime and creating nothing.

I can't see the loanees returning so there's no point wishing for what won't happen.

Holloway might believe that the experience he's gaining at Bournemouth is good for him, and it is, but right now we need him. I've been banging on about the extreme lack of wingers for some time now and it frustrates the hell out of me.

What's the use of playing Steve Howard without some wingers who can cross a ball? Like Fez said, Howard got goals last season because of the service he received out wide. He's not the sort of player who can run onto passes and score 20 goals that way.

Also as Fez said, I can't believe both Hayes and Gradel are out on loan. We are a team that is seriously struggling at the moment and we need these players. Even if they may not be the greatest players in the team they can still get some crosses in. It would make such a huge difference it's unbelievable. And while Clemence and Oakley show little sign of involvement in attacks there really is nothing coming from midfield.

Lackzo and Bori have come in. Ok, they had fantastic debuts and we thought we were doing alright with these two. But since then they've not been a quarter of the players we saw against Coventry. It begs the question why we only brought these two in as wingers in January. We may have Mattock, who to be fair tried to work the fullbacks and get crosses in, but he can't quite cut it yet for me.

So, so frustrating.
