Laptop Help

Ok, finally enquired about the AOL free laptops, still seems a good deal but waiting for my mum to decide about the offer (Because it means changing the billing for phone calls).

But which laptop is better? http://shop.carphonewarehouse.com/aol_eligibility.php

Obviously the laptop which you have to add more money too would be better but is it really worth the extra money or should I just go for the standard free laptop and get memory, e.t.c, added at a later date? :dunno:

I know the basics of how to use computers but when it comes to memory, e.t.c on computers I havn't got a clue.

The broadband is over-priced.

The speed is crap.

The basic machine is bollocks.

Get your arse down to PC World and bag a far better machine for £300 and hook yourself up to Virgin Broadband.

...Oh...and there's a cap on what you can download.

AOL suck arse.

Hmmmm fair point, I'm currently with AOL and it is crap, but I don't really want to go to another broadband company because at least I know what I get with AOL, I already have a laptop but am being hooked in by the offer of this "free" laptop.

I've looked at virgin broadband but from the prices i've looked at without the phone or tv packages that looks quite expensive aswell. :dunno:

At the end of the day all broadband companies are gonna have your pants down.

Incorrect. Bulldog is (was) the way to go. They laugh in the face of the establishment! and stick two fingers up to the RIAA.

Both Sky and Virgin can give you great delas on combined packages. I get...

Broadband - max 8Mbps speed (it averages about 3.5Mbps) with 40GB download limit per month.

Phone - free evening and weekend phone calls.

TV - Sky Plus with the basic entertainment packages and the Sky Sports package

...all for just £43 per month.

You can't beat the price if you get these services seperately from different suppliers.

Erm - if it's crap then take your business elsewhere - and a phone/broadband package from Virgin is cheaper than any of the Carphone Warehouse offers. Even the most expensive Virgin option is only a pound more than the cheapest Carphone Warehouse...it seem reall daft to stay with them. Plus - on top of your "free laptop" (that isn't free) is a monthly line rental to BT and daytime calls. Have you even looked at their prices?

Well i'm still with AOL, I've not gone for the free laptop, but they gave me a deal for 9.99, for a better deal than i'm currently getting plus a wireless router.

Is this going to form the basis of the new "What the fuck?" Virgin campaign?

i personally would be weary of any uk isp at the moment, bt / virgin / carphone are bringing in PHORM, check it out first, as they all plan on spying on your browsing habbits and then selling that data to a 3rd party called phorm, also virgin is not really UNLIMITED downloads either, as they have a form of traffic management that when you download a certain ammount of data during certain hours they will chop your download speed by over half, this is during the time period 4pm-12am, they are also trialling a new system with 3 areas of time per day with all different download limits, so be aware of this as i am thinking of dumping virgin if this comes in, also a little chat with the small claims court, as they DO advertise it as an unlimited service

follow the phorm and STM (traffic management) over at nthellworld.co.uk

another notice, stay away from tiscali as they have a 5gb download limit per month, so that equates to 1 single layer dvd (4.5g) per month, u end up paying £££ after the 5gig limit, so ALWAYS read all info you can about BB companies.... free laptop ? nothing is for free ;)

Hence the reason I went with Sky... I don't want donkey-pr0n adverts popping up all over the place.

do some search into virgins idea of trialing a 3 strike rule ;)

I'll bet their willingness to give three strikes is dependent on how many packages the customer currently subscribes to. I can't see them cutting off business from the likes of me that buy everything from them.
