somebum Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 I can't understand why more clubs don't do this. I would give all new players 'pay to play' contracts, they only get paid if they play, and are given a percentage if they do not. This means all players will want to play - say they get 50% to play, an extra 50% for winning, nothing extra for losing. This will stop jokers taking the piss, players like Kewell who sign the contract and get 'injured' aka Michael Owen. This way, they will really care about the result. Start shipping out players on paycheques like DJ Campbell and Matt Oakley, journeymen who don't give a hoot. What do you think? I know the drawback is not being able to attract players, but there are plenty of players out there who are willing to play like that, surely

I'm all for performance-related pay, but the half-decent players aren't going to want to come if that is offered. Then again, I'd rather have players with no reputation showing passion and commitment than players with big egos swanning round the place, dumping on loyal fans.

A fox for life Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 hmm wouldn't work as the transfer market for decent players is too high! but i agree it should happen

A fox for life Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 Can you change your picture please, it makes me want to cry just found it today . i was imagining it when i was standing in the cop holding my head after the third goal went in on Saturday contemplating weather to throw my season ticket
somebum Posted 28 April 2008 Author Posted 28 April 2008 No one will want to come to us But look at all the so called big players, how often underperform on huge contracts - whats the point of clubs carrying them anyway? The Lauren Roberts, Verons, Ballacks etc
Corky Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 just found it today .i was imagining it when i was standing in the cop holding my head after the third goal went in on Saturday contemplating weather to throw my season ticket I wish Matty was still playing for us. True legend, and someone who didn't arrive with a big ego or reputation, and worked hard for his wages.
Matt Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 I have said this should be the way many times before, the drawback - Players would just laugh in the face of Leicester City Football Club and find a club willing to offer them a normal contract (Which wouldn't be hard). Pay as you play contracts would only work if several/all clubs started offering it. It should be the way but unfortunately it never will become reality.
The People's Hero Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 I wish Matty was still playing for us. True legend, and someone who didn't arrive with a big ego or reputation, and worked hard for his wages. *hic* Shame he ended it in such as abject and unacceptable style in terms of both performance and professionalism.
