maddog Posted 6 December 2008 Posted 6 December 2008 I think it all depends on how Milan sees the situation. Arguably, Fryatt has reached his Leicester City peak and will never be worth the kind of money that is likely to be offered in January again. In that respect then it may be worth cashing in while we can. On the other hand, is there anyone else within our price range who can score the goals that will see us promoted? In many respects this will be the first indication of Milan's intentions for the future. Long term success or to recover his losses. Thats a bit harsh on Milan, i hardly think Fryatts going to give us long term success, as soon as a bigger wage comes along at a bigger club he will be off. His sitter misses were the main reason for us going down last season. We have Campbell and Dickov who could score goals at this level, maybe not as many but possibly, maybe. Fryatt scored 10 goals in 81 championship appearences prior to this season, yet has been given a consistent run in the team this season despite the shit and sitter misses that got us relegated last season, and has got the goals. So Campbell and Dickov who have never really featured for LCFC, Fryatt played a lot more than Campbell last season, if they are given a consistent starting place could also score lots of goals. Dj is a miles better, proven Championship scorer than Fryatt, he needs game time and match fitness so then he can time his runs better. Howard played well today, we have Chambers, there are a lot of options when/if Fryatt goes in January. We will get at least £2m for him i rekon so we could also buy another striker if we feel the current ones at the club aren't good enough. Beckford, Lambert, Mackail Smith all up there in the top scorers list this season, all i think we could sign. Im mainly worried that Fryatt is on a roll now, trying even harder to get more goals so we offer him more money, and once we offer him an ridiculous offer, lets say £12,000 a week with a 50% wage increase if we are promoted, and goal bonuses etc on a 4 year deal. Im frightened he will sign then stop trying because he will be on all that money and not bother anymore. I think its much safer to sell him in Jan for a lot of money. He may get back to the Championship and be shit again so we won't be able to sell him for any money, and will be stuck for him on a massive wage long contract. So basically i think it will be safe to cash in on him. Also in the current credit crunch, Milan hasn't got an everlasting supply of money like other owners out there, i dont think he can really afford to throw thousands at Matty Fryatt every week after 81 championship appearences and only 10 goals. So sell sell sell. Its much less risky than keeping him, and i think other strikers at the club and possibly a new signing in Jan can get the goals that will get us promoted. This league is fooking shit, we aren't exactly playing great football, infact today was one of the best performances, we have been shit for the most part, but this league is very shit thats why we are top. Promotion is highly likely without fryatt
Jimmy Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 can we stop this myth that DJ Campbell is a proven championship goal scorer he played 43 league games for Brum and scored NINE goals he isn't proven at any level above the non-league as he has NEVER gotten double figures in league football in his career tally let alone in 1 season his League football stats Team Games (goals) Brentford 23 (9) Birmingham 43 (9) Leicester 33 (4) he is just another elvis hammond
clazkel Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 £5 e/w top scorer 33/1, nuff said. I was gonna put a tenna on Fryatt to be top goalscorer at 33/1 but forgot and after the MK Dons game the odds went right down so i didn't bother, gutted i didn't put it on. If he leaves in jan, would you get your money back as you couldn't win the bet unless he score loads of goals in the next few games?

Dj has 0.209 goals a game and Fryatt 0.135 goals a game, a much worser record.

F*** stats. I don't care what they show, its quite clear to me that on evidence of watching them play, Matty is the far superior player. The only reason DJ has moved up the football ladder is down to pace, but in terms of technical ability, awareness and reading of the game, he doesn't even come close to someone like Matty. Don't get me wrong, I want DJ to do well for us but I can't see where the extra dimension to his game will come from. IMO, a season like this for Matty will not only do wonders for his confidence, but will dramatically improve his game and I believe he will go on to be a far more succesful goalscorer at a higher level, whether it be with us or another team, than DJ ever will be.
Koke Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 DJ Campbell is 27 years old. He's hardly gonna improve. We were mugs for paying £1.6 million for him, and that was all thanks to Allen and his incredibly top class scouting network.

lcfcwaindie Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 weve gotta keep him , unless .. we can get somebody alot better, 20 goals already this season id be happy with that any season, hes earned his place on merit he should be able to keep it. if he starts to go downhill then well cash in.
Ric Flair Posted 8 December 2008 Posted 8 December 2008 It is pretty amazing what confidence can do for a player. Indeed, it's also amazing what a lack of confidence can do to players with masses of ability.
