Guns campaigner stabbed to death

A prominent anti-gun campaigner has been stabbed to death at a flat in West Yorkshire.

The body of Pat Regan, 53, was discovered at the property on Marlborough Grange in the Hyde Park area of Leeds on Sunday.

Mrs Regan, a mother-of-six, started campaigning against gun-crime after her son Danny was shot dead in 2002.

A 19-year-old man, a family member, has been arrested. Police said post-mortem tests will take place later.

Mrs Regan's son Danny became involved in criminality and was shot at his then home in Haycock, Liverpool. His killer has not been found.

Following the death of her son she set up a Leeds branch of Mothers Against Guns.

She had previously met government officials to discuss how to tackle the problems of gun and gang-related crime.

I suppose it's the way she would have wanted to go.

I know this seems a bit callous but the irony's not lost on anyone, right?

The worrying thing is that a family members been arrested.

Something aint right in todays society is it?

However i do feel the media look for these stories sometimes.

At the moment its all knife crime and stabbings but i remember a few years ago every other day there'd be a story about Rotweillers/Bull Terriers attacking and maming people(I know its not the same severity but it does seem once the media latch onto something they keep it going for as long as possible.)

Having said that,is the youth of today worse than the last generation?

Fcuk...this is too deep for me...i'll be off to talk bollox elsewhere!!!

I dont think you are talking bollocks at all mate. I think you are talking total sense. You mention about the youth today maybe being worse than the last and i think it toally is. Theres no respect these days at all. I can think of instances involving the younger generation that has happened to me but i wont bore anyone with them. Who is to blame for all this? Parents? Teachers? Government? Media? Who knows!

I just personally think times are alot worse these days. I think the key word i used in this rant is definitely RESPECT.

There isnt any these days at all!!!

It's all a bit depressing isn't it, but also inexplicable.

I saw a thing the other day about all these teen knifings in London this year, and out of the twenty or so murders that there'd been, I think in all but one someone had been arrested and charged with it pretty much straightaway - hardly the perfect crime is it?

Despite what everyone says about soft sentencing, these daft sods are still going to get 15 to 20 years inside. I find how people giving up their own lives in this way almost as difficult to get my head around as how they can take other people's

If there is no deterrent for carrying a knife, they will do.

If there is no deterrent for stealing things, they will do.

If there is no deterrent for drinking underage, they will do.

If there is no deterrent for fighting, they will do.

If there is no deterrent for abusing teachers/elders, they will do.

The only way to reverse the situation is to have zero tolerance, with prisons that are not like holiday camps. No tv, no radio, no games consoles, prison has got to be a place you don't want to go to.

Kids have always fought. Ask davieG and Thracian - come the bank holiday they'd be dusting off their best suit to go and have a barny with some Rockers.

Is it that simple though? I saw a programme on an American prison the other day and it was absolutely horrible - no TV, radio, tobacco or anything, and the prisoners were basically housed in open sided tents (the temperature was about 40 degrees). And it was packed, so packed in fact that they keep having to extend it - it clearly wasn't much of a deterrent to the people that ended up there, but then again if the death penalty was an effective deterrent there wouldn't be anyone on death row, would there?

I didn't do any of the things you've listed, and it's not because I might have got punished - I did it because I wasn't a c***. There you go then - the solution to all crime in the world is simple - don't be a c***, be a bellend

Yes but it's the c**** who need a deterrent. It's not going to solve everything but it's a bloody start!!!
