Until we see how Italy, Spain, France and co' are going to perform on the other tier it means nothing. Just because they have the easiest route to the final, it doesn't mean they'll be better than their oppositions once they get there. It's just cowardly predictions because people don't want to guess who'll get to the final from the "hard" road. This way people at least get to say "oh, well, I was almost right. I knew they'd be there or there abouts!" D'uh. Germany looked hugely ordinary for large portions of that game. If France, Spain or Italy come out and massacre people in the next few days then everyone's predictions will start changing.

How people can sit there and watch without England is beyond me it's just Gaddam depressing. At the time I was not bothered by England after the Croatia game but the constant talk of this tournament and us not being there has really got to me.

Well apart from Portugal and a little good football from Germany, I found the others to be boring and shit so we would have fit right in. Should be a couple of cracking games tomorrow though.

I don't dispute that. And as a neutral at every major internation tournament I trust your judgement. But I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I'm really missing the euphoria a major championship brings, the St Georges flags everywhere, build up to games, sticking 3 lions on the ipod, wearing the shirt with pride win or loose. None of this can be done this year and being so used to it makes it so much worst. I know some people can happily be entertained by watching great European teams battle it out without caring whether England are there or not, but I just can't. God I hate Steve Mclaren.

I was very much in two minds when England played Croatia, I was concerned that attitudes like yours would spread - that the gloss would be taken off the tournament were England not in it. I find it depressing that that's the case but I was well aware it would happen. But really there's a lot of joy to be had in the World Cup and the Euros, with or without England. It's a football fan's paradise and I plan to enjoy as many games as possible.
