lildave3 Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Germany have to choose who will lead their attack, with Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski likely to fight it out for the right to partner Mario Gomez. However, Germany coach Joachim Loew could decide to switch Podolski to the left-hand side of midfield. Loew is keeping his cards close to his chest but goalkeeping coach Andreas Koepke said many places are still open. Poland pair Jakub Blaszczykowski and keeper Tomasz Kuszczak are already ruled out of the tournament. The Poles lost the pair before a ball was even kicked in anger. Goalkeeper Kuszczak was ruled out with a back injury on Friday and replaced by Wojciech Kowalewski. And winger Blaszczykowski suffered a hamstring strain that forced him to withdraw from the squad. Germany have no injury concerns in their 23-man squad. "All our players are healthy," said Koepke. "The final decision will come after tonight's practice in Klagenfurt. Germany go into the game without a victory in the Euros since they won the final in 1996. And they are hoping the three Polish-born players in their team, Klose and Podolski, and midfielder Piotr Trochowski, can give them some inside information about their opponents. "They are the so-called insiders and we may have an advantage because of that," Germany assistant coach Hansi Flick said. Bit in bold shocked me a little. Even so, Germany will cruise this imo, either 4-0 or 4-1.
Uncle Albert Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Bit in bold shocked me a little.Even so, Germany will cruise this imo, either 4-0 or 4-1. Poland are no mugs though, they have a few handy players in Smolarek, Zurawski and Bak. Cruised in the qualifers aswell.

Uncle Albert Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Smolarek i'll grant you, the others don't really impress me. Apart from the keeper. Bak is a good defender I think, very solid. Poland lack alot in pace which is their major downfall.
purpleronnie Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Apparantly german fans have already beed arrested after clashes.... Good ol germans.
dandannieldanok Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Apparantly german fans have already beed arrested after clashes.... Good ol germans. I bet quite a large proportion of the trouble is coming from the Polish fans, some of them are really violent. At least it's not English fans causing trouble Oh, and Germany to win 1 or 2-0, rather functionally and unimpressively.
Simi Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Bit of history between these two. Plenty being made last night as well. Quite a bit kicked off by the looks of things. Shocking to the football authroities that trouble can occur without England in a competetition, I'm sure.

I was making a very tired joke about World War II. But yeah I wouldn't be surprised if England got the blame for any trouble during this year's tournament! Bloody hooligans.

Lovejoy Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Poland are no mugs though, they have a few handy players in Smolarek, Zurawski and Bak.Cruised in the qualifers aswell. Yeah Poland aren't too bad. Still reckon Germany will sneak this one though, 2-0 I'm saying, Gomez to get both. He's quality!
Mikey Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Germany 2-1 Poland. Klose and Ballack for the Germans. Saganowski for Poland.
Matt Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Who needs the English on or off the field ah? VIENNA, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Seven German fans were arrested in Euro 2008 host city Klagenfurt following minor scuffles on Saturday night. Germany will clash with Poland in a much anticipated Group B game on Sunday and the Austrian police are well aware of possible trouble especially after fierce tongue wars between media of the two countries. The fans of opposite groups, drinking in the town center, had first traded verbal insults, local police said in a statement. "After the mood between the groups of fans each numbering around 100 became sufficiently aggressive police stepped in to calm things and prevent any escalation," police said. A spokesman in Klagenfurt said fans had hurled plastic beer containers before they were separated for a time. 60,000 fans are expected to arrive the city on Sunday, around half of whom will go to the stadium.
Tilley Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Poland one nil, Fook it, someone's gotta give 'um a chance. Realistically, 3 - 1 Germany.
syston_fox Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Im sticking with my ambitious predictions.... 4-2 to germany
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Think Germany will win, not sure of the score, but Frings and Gomez to score. Schweinsteiger to put his poor club season behind him and shine.
Uncle Albert Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Klose and Gomez! Frightening pairing. Is Shweinstiger injured or something?
syston_fox Posted 8 June 2008 Posted 8 June 2008 Two great chances missed already - one for each team. What a miss from Germany though!! I stick by my prediction of 4-2 to the germans!
