Matt Posted 7 April 2005 Posted 7 April 2005 Fuking College, last year there was an exam for my Carpentry NVQ Level 1, they gave me notice but I was on holiday at the time the exam was set for...well isn't that when people go on holidays? You know when College/Schools are ment to be closed? Yeah they set last years exam in holiday time, how fuking thick are they? So that means I havn't officially passed last year even though i'm on the second year of my course, I will now be taking last years exam in June. This years exam I was told would be on Health and Safety, I was told i'd have a book to revise from, I was told i'd have this book before Christmas, I still havn't got it yet, and guess what? Few days ago I had a letter drop through the door, Apparently I have the Health and Safety test this coming Monday, I have been of college for 2 weeks, this coming Monday is when I start back college, but no I have to go and do the exam instead, no warning before the easter break that i'll be having the exam, they tell me through a letter - less than a week before the test! Apparently WE have got to buy the book to revise from when 1) We were gonna be given the book and 2) We were gonna be given the book more than 3 months ago! Just had a call from my College mate, he only got his letter today, Another person from college is gonna be out of the country, So we have all planned to phone up college and complain because it really is a fuking joke. Fair enough Health and Safety is usually common sense but it could be anything, it could be Hazards, Substances, First Aid, Basic Safety, e.t.c.
Knighton Matt Posted 7 April 2005 Posted 7 April 2005 which college is it mate thats terrible sounds like they couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery! could u not tell the exam board u only found out about it today and show them the letter as proof they may take into account with respect to ur final grade?

EDIT Last years exams was the Exam boards fault, The examination board thought it'd be a good idea to open the college up during a holiday and put and exam there (according to the college) I don't know who the college will blame for the exam on Monday

Matt Posted 11 April 2005 Author Posted 11 April 2005 Quality! I passed! 100% Pass rate from me B)  I was one of 3 out of 6 to pass the test! Was given the book at 8.30am this morning to revise from the College blamed the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) for the cock up which to be honest wouldn't surprise me, but was given the book at 8.30 which no-one really looked through, I had a browse through. And somehow I got 100%

Matt Posted 11 September 2005 Author Posted 11 September 2005 My College is brilliant when it arranges stuff, you'd think you would have a letter or a phone call or a visit from someone from college at your workplace telling you when you were going back to college wouldn't you? Nah not my college, I ain't had no letter, no phone call and no visit, so I decided to phone the college because I know my college are sneeky fockers, last year the just kicked a load of people of my course over the summer and didn't tell them, so I was down the gym and my tutor was there and he said come and see me in college on thursday (2 weeks ago) so I went into college on the thursday he wern't there, so I asked about college seeing if they know anything about me start back "I don't know" is the answer I was getting, so I thought forget it, the next day I phoned college they said "We don't know we'll phone you back" I finally got a call on Thursday night saying I start back this coming Tuesday, I have had people of my course calling me seeing if knew anything because they also had no information, I still have no letter, e.t.c telling me when I come back because I have done all the calling around I know what day we are back at college, so even if we do all recieve letters tommorrow how are we supposed to tell our bosses we won't be in work on the tuesday? My college couldn't arrange a piss up in a brewery giving us less than a weeks notice of an exam and then not telling us when we start back college
Matt Posted 12 September 2005 Author Posted 12 September 2005 ' date='Sep 11 2005, 10:58 PM' post='174532']Soudns a bit disorganised to me!! Just abit, Just got off the phone with someone on my course, and we are organising abit of a complaint for tommorrow because this isn't the first time, it happens year after year (Apparently) and they have done it before giving us the stupid amount of little notice before an exams, and when it comes down to exams its just not on, luckly I passed the exam but plenty of people on my course failed that exam then the college expected them to fund themselves for the exam.
cisono Posted 12 September 2005 Posted 12 September 2005 What college is that? From what you say, it's worth avoiding at all costs!!!

Katy Posted 13 September 2005 Posted 13 September 2005 Bloody Hell Matt it doesnt seem like 5 minutes since I read the original post about it, its looks like you have to do your own sorting out there! And where the hell is Knighton Matt these days?

Matt Posted 13 September 2005 Author Posted 13 September 2005 9am to 7pm today at college I got there about 9.05am this morning which is late so someone said to me "Where have I been" so my sarcastic reply was "Only just got the letter/phone call telling me to be here" and they are saying it will be 7pm finish all this year, so that mean to Leicester City matches on a tuesday, They said we can only leave early if we have a doctors/dentist/e.t.c appointment and we have to have a note and appointment card to prove we have got the appointments, so I am tempted to take my Season Ticket into college and say to my tutor "Are you gonna play for every Tuesday night I miss?" because in Division 1 there are a few Tuesday night matches and missing those matches ain't cheap, especially with Leicester City's prices! Also my tutors have been contradicting themselves all day its just a joke, we have two tutors this year because its a fairly big class and one tutor saying one thing another saying another thing, then the best part was when they contradicted themselves! Just laughable really. I might be going onto do my Level 3 course next year but i'm not sure if college keep going on like this don't think I can be arsed with Level 3 because its just a joke compleating Level 2 will qualify me a Carpenter/Joiner its a shame to be looking at it this way but if I do want to do Level 3 I might just prehaps try enrolling for a Level 3 course at another college at this rate, it'd probably mean travelling but surly there are better colleges about! P.S - One thing the college have got right and one thing my college has organised correctly ( ) is the exam this thread was originally created about I have actually been given my certificate for it, I nearly had a heart attack when I was given the certificate, because its the first thing the college has done with some (reasonable) speed in the 2/3 years I have been at the college! (P.P.S - I passed the exam)
Rincewind Posted 13 September 2005 Posted 13 September 2005 It certainly looks as if it needs sorting out. No good blaming your tutor. You need to go to the top. Even get your tutor on side. Do you know anyone in the legal buisness? Go and see the head of the college with any letters. Don't go in effing and blinding though Just ask why you had so little notice last year and this year. Say something like a lot of young peoples future depends on the quality of the college. Get your boss to support you as well, maybe with a letter. I would not have been happy if I had been one of those that failed. I don't know where they stand legally but I am sure a certain time has to be put aside for revising classroom study and the suchlike before an exam. When I did my SIA we had 10 modules (one on Health and Safety) and an exam in the first three days and two modules and an exam on the fourth. I knew that I would have to do it but found out just over a week before. most of the course was to do with my job and the exam was multi-choice questions. I'm sure you must have picked up a lot of what the exam was about while on the course and doing your job but still it must have been worrying not knowing where you stood. Anyway well done and good luck. l to 50 years of pre-retirement hard graft.
Matt Posted 7 February 2006 Author Posted 7 February 2006 @ my college again today! Today I was to take another test it was my end of year Level 2 test to complete, I had been given weeks of notice, I had to revise from my assignments I had done, I was shocked college had arranged an exam correctly for once. ...Until it came to actual exam I got there, sat down at the computer and started the exam, Bearing in mind I am training to become a bench joiner, I had loads of questions about Flooring, roofing, Roof trusses/rafters, e.t.c I guessed my way through them thinking "Why am I being asked these questions? There Site Carpenter/Site Joiner questions" I come out of the exam go to the canteen to meet my mate said(He's training to be a site carpenter) "I had a load of questions about joinery and stairs, e.t.c"... College, Cheers for cocking both our exams up...Now both of us (+ A few other people on my course) now have to retake the exam doing the right tests And the college are wondering why I am taking my time about considering continuing onto Level 3... P.S...I passed the Site Carpenter test, and my mate passed the Joinery test, but its not the point, I now have to take another bastard exam...3 Cock-ups on 3 seperate occasions thanks to college
