Simi Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 BLACKBURN Rovers have become the first Premiership club to install a prayer room where supporters can worship. The sound-proofed match day facility will replace a toilet block and contains prayer mats and religious texts. Club chiefs hope the room, in the Blackburn End stand, will attract more fans from different faiths and backgrounds. Supporters who sit in other sections of Ewood Park will be escorted there by stewards. Managing director Tom Finn said: “We live in a diverse society and need to accommodate the needs of people from all walks of life.” Salim Mulla, senior vice chairman of Lancashire Council of Mosques, said: “It’s a fantastic gesture. I am sure it will encourage more Muslims to attend.” Dean Christopher Armstrong, of Blackburn Cathedral, said: “It is crucial inter-faith projects like this are allowed to succeed.” Rovers fan Scott Gardiner, 30, said: “It gives fans the chance to pray when things aren’t going well on the pitch.” Erm...
dandannieldanok Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Paul Ince will be a regular user of the room when the season starts
Anish Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 It brings a whole new meaning to the phrase 'football is my religion'. Still a stupid idea imo - Muslims or other religious followers aren't suddenly going to be swarming to Ewood Park because they can now pray at half time.
Moreton Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 It brings a whole new meaning to the phrase 'football is my religion'.Still a stupid idea imo - Muslims or other religious followers aren't suddenly going to be swarming to Ewood Park because they can now pray at half time. Yeah i totally agree. WTF were they Smoking??
Guest Mickyblueeyes Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Erm... Its ridiculous!at no point does it says their was a need for a prayer hall at the ground.Instead its a bunch of "knowitalls" who at no point decided to consult the community on the idea and instead chose to decide themselves what was better for them. Most muslims I know wouldnt chose to pray where alchohol was consumed in the first place!!!
Asha Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Shit idea. No-one wants to read the bible at a football ground.
lildave3 Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Shit idea.No-one wants to read the bible at a football ground. You've obviously never met John 'Bible Reading' Madison.
BoneHead. Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Heres me thinking Blackburn didnt have a prayer this season
fox123 Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 Shit idea.No-one wants to read the bible at a football ground. I don't think it's the bible they will be reading!!!
thecannon Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 What if someone needs a piss! And there will be people fooking around praying! Like they need to Pray, they got in the top 10 last season! Greedy bastards!
Trav Le Bleu Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Didn't we put 11 stones standing on the pitch in some weird mystical configuration last season?
lookwhaticando Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Didn't we put 11 stones standing on the pitch in some weird mystical configuration last season? I absolutely don't understand the reason for this... just how many football fans actively practice their religion? How many of them go to some kind of place of worship on a regular basis? Probably not many at all... Can't wait to see how many people will actually use this room... probably about as many people as trophies in Arsenal's season.
coale39 Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Yeah why not have pray rooms. Why dont hey also have supermarkets and squash courts as well? Would like the option at half time.
morris1234 Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 im all for equality really i am as have had many great friends of different faiths in the past but it just annoys me that on some situations it now go's the other end of the story, whereby people of different origins or faiths will automatically be put ahead of basically everybody else. i think prayer rooms are a good idea, they have the chapels etc at the bigger stadiums, e.g. the nou camp but surely if you want to watch football, then you watch football , if you want to pray then pray, makes you wonder how many people have said ' i dont want to go to the game because i cant pray' lol what if we made up a religion that requires free shirts, season tickets and unlimited beer??
Austin Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Saw this in the paper .. and the facial expression I pulled wasn't to disimilar to this >
Guest Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 What if someone needs a piss! Exactly. I would have thought something practical like that would be more welcome.
Thracian Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Prayer can be quietly undertaken by anyone anywhere and anyhow they like. It doesn't need contrived facilities. Imagine such a room at Leicester these last few years. The place would have been permanently packed. Health and Safety would have gone ballistic.
Alexikokopops Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 We've got to pray just to make it today....
Nationwider Posted 14 August 2008 Posted 14 August 2008 Were they trousers, a skirt, a flan...? Who knows?
