Uncle Albert Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 Ah it's the guy Man City had, he did all right for the Mancs I thought Decent left winger I think but no David Silva.
Fox You Forest Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 I disagree i think he was useless at Man City, He may have improved since then so who knows. I don't think he will be any better than Pennant.
JakeShingler Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 Missed it as i was at Fulham. And tbh i dont really care.
Tommeh Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 Decent left winger I think but no David Silva. Agreed in the same way keanes no villa. I honestly feel they'll win nothing again this year, take Gerrard, torres and carragher out of it and they'd barely escape the drop
lildave3 Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 9 Million for Riera?! He must have improved immensely since his time at Man City.
Jimmy Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 Agreed in the same way keanes no villa.I honestly feel they'll win nothing again this year, take Gerrard, torres and carragher out of it and they'd barely escape the drop well look at United without Rooney and Ronaldo, they were pathetic, same with Arsenal without Fabregas, not just a Liverpool issue
Tevez Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 well look at United without Rooney and Ronaldo, they were pathetic, same with Arsenal without Fabregas, not just a Liverpool issue Why is the hype about them two? Ronaldo ok but Rooney? what about Tevez, he worked his fooking bollocks off. Don't forget if it wasn't for Vidic and Ferdinand they would be shit.

Tevez Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 Babel/Kuyt on the right, Riera on the left. Agger back. I bet they will get a trophy this season.
Uncle Albert Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 yes but Tevez has been playing and they were still poor this season, it was Ronaldo and Rooney that were missing This season?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 I disagree that Man Yoo are poor without Ronaldo and Rooney. It's just that there is no depth to the squad. What they need is a world class striker (not Berbatov!), to ensure they've got enough back up. Huntelaar would fit the bill.

How Gareth Barry is in the England starting eleven over this lad is a serious concern.

Uncle Albert Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 Perhaps because Barry can pass a ball forawrd rather than backwards / to the side? Rofl. We will see this weekend what Gareth Barry's passing abilities really are like when he come's up against Xabi Alonso. Carrick is alot better than Barry.

Uncle Albert Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 Bit harsh to judge his abilities when he'll be up against one of the best holding midfield players in the world. Why is it? Same position as Gareth Barry. Then see how Michael Carrick plays against him.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 Why is it?Same position as Gareth Barry. Then see how Michael Carrick plays against him. Carrick will be in a far better team than Barry's Villa.
Uncle Albert Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 Carrick will be in a far better team than Barry's Villa. Excuses, Excuses. I was referring to Barry's passing abilities and how they will compare to Alonso's. And you made an excuse on Alonso being the best holding midfielder in the world, that has nothing to do with Barry's passing abilities. And Carrick is a much better passer than Barry.
Father Ted Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 Excuses, Excuses.I was referring to Barry's passing abilities and how they will compare to Alonso's. And you made an excuse on Alonso being the best holding midfielder in the world, that has nothing to do with Barry's passing abilities. And Carrick is a much better passer than Barry. But Barry has better vision than Carrick and adds more in attack and from set-pieces. Barry also gets stuck in. Carrick seems to me to be one of those players who does nothing but get the ball and pass it on.

Carrick seems to me to be one of those players who does nothing but get the ball and pass it on. Course he is, Carrick was influential throughout Yanited's season. If he is a regular in the Yanited team then he is good enough to play for England. Played Ballack and Essien off the pitch in The Champs League Final. And scored a vital penalty.
TrickyTrev Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 Perhaps because Barry can pass a ball forawrd rather than backwards / to the side? Is that a joke? Michael Carrick is a far classier passer than Gareth Barry.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Is that a joke? Michael Carrick is a far classier passer than Gareth Barry. I really don't see what Carrick has that Barry doesn't. Barry is a clever, incisive passer with an eye for goal who is capable of Champions League football. He gets forward more than Carrick and offers much more from set-pieces. His assists for Villa are also abundant.

Barry probably is capable of playing Champions League football but he isnt and Michael Carrick is a Champions League winner. Carrick is a regular for the best team in the world and Gareth Barry is at Aston Villa. Carrick in my eyes would play with Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard better for England aswell, instead of Barry who had two good games for England and is now a starter, what a joke. Give Carrick a proper chance in the England midfield and let him see what he can do.

Barry does support Villa's attack exceptionally and is also incredibly versatile, being able to also play on either side of midfield or even at full back. That is why he is valued so highly and coveted by one of Europe's most successful clubs, and regular Champs League finalists, Liverpool, as well as their inspirational captain. And Barry should be started for England because of year after year of consistently excellent showings in the Premier League, not because of the two games in which he played (and played exquisitely alongside Gerrard) in the Autumn.

And Carrick hasnt been consistent throughout the whole of last year for Man Yanited? Premier League winners and Champions of Europe. Good one. Barry is very overated and is made to look better than he is because he is the best player in an ordinary squad. He may well of played well with England but what did England achieve? They all acheived a long summer away with their families instead of being at Euro 2008.
