Ric Flair Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 Tranmere away in the first leg of the Play-Offs in 1993/94 season. Travelled up there with my old boy and a few of his pals. I seem to recall being in some boozer that to me looked and felt like the biggest pub in the world. This probably isn't the case at all, but the main bar was the size of a football pitch and there was a bird working behind there who looked like she'd been on smack and been shagged all morning. Horrid. I remember the game being dreadful, we were poor. Tranmere missed a host of chances and Gavin Ward me lord pulled off one of the best saves I have ever seen. Point blank header and somehow he managed to tip it over the bar, breath taking it really was. The stand out moment for me though was a pissed up chap behind taking a piss down the back of my jeans. Let's just say, he took a tumble down the steep steps of the away stand after my dad's mate had got hold of him. Amusing, but still didn't change the fact that i'd got piss all over me and I thought at ten years of age, those days were behind me. Unpleasant journey home. Speedie got revenge for me though in the second leg.
leicester ghost Posted 10 September 2008 Author Posted 10 September 2008 ric flair. your story reminded me that i also went to tranmere on another occasion, not just the one previously mentioned, i don't think it was the cup game up there' iv'e got a feeling it was a friday, can't remember the score, must have been a crap game, the only thing i remember,is stopping off somewhere near manchester, and it seemed the whole pubs watching coronation street.
Narborough Bod Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 Blackburn away in the season we had Kevin Campbell and Paul Moran on loan, freezing cold standing in their sh*thole of a ground. Simon Morgan ran the length of the pitch and volleyed in a Gary Mac cross and we won 4-2. Cold, cold, cold, cold, cold.
leicester ghost Posted 10 September 2008 Author Posted 10 September 2008 qpr loftus road................80s on the football special, and theres a good following, we get there and we're escorted by white city dogtrack, then its down a road with a large estate one side of the road, and a south african pub on our left, we go onto the terraces behind the goal, a lot of leicester fans ar'nt happy,we're having to play on a plastic pitch, thats got to give rangers an unfair advantage, seems that also, the police are playing a different game to the one we are used to, leicester fans sing there customary song to hero alan young, hes here, hes there hes every f###### where, alan young, police snatch squads invade the away end and drag surprised fans away, if you were talking whilst the song was being sung, you could be in the same boat, everyones gobsmacked, its unbelievable, to wind the police up,the song is started several more times, not many fans finish it, to make matters worse, alan young sustains an injury on the plastic pitch, and we can't sing his song, to round a bad day off,qpr beat us 2-0, now we have to find mates who were dragged out of the ground earlier.
purpleronnie Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 West Brom away 1991. I went to this game with my Dad and his mate from work, which was rare as I usually went with my mates, can't remember why I decided to go with my dad, anyway I remember walking onto the terrace at west brom this was the first time I had visited the hawthorns and I remember thinking how big the ground looked. We lost I dont remember the score, the weird thing is I don't remember leicesters score but I remember Liverpool beating leeds 5-4 on that day. I also remember walking out of the stadium and loads of west brom fans on various coaches/buses giving the leicester fans grief. A few weeks later we managed to stay up on the last day of the season against oxford, and was encouraged by my dad (who I did attend home games with) to run on the pitch, so I and 1000's of others did just that.

We definately need a new edition of "Of Fossils and Foxes"So many memories can be recalled by that book, I can't find mine not a clue where it is which has really pee'd me off!
leicester ghost Posted 10 September 2008 Author Posted 10 September 2008 west brom, been a few times, police worse than qpr' i must have gone to the game you mention. iv'e a feeling one of our group was arrested this game for looking drunk' absolute disgrace, should have been a law against it, bristol police did it as well, no reason but to inconvenience fans, i can't recall a good result at the hawthorns, good to see us 4-1 them last season though.
Guest Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 Tranmere away in the first leg of the Play-Offs in 1993/94 season. I went up to Liverpool for the weekend, to visit one of my best mates, who was at Uni there. It wasn't until after the game I realised she'd pulled before kick off!! My outstanding memory is of the pub next to the ground, and Sumo (whatever happened to him) and Sumo's Mate (whatever happened to him) dancing on the tables in the pub. I also remember Sumo's Mate being carried on Sumo's shoulders in the terrace behind the goal!
leicester ghost Posted 10 September 2008 Author Posted 10 September 2008 he's not bald, i think coalville library has fossils, i'll have to try and get over there saturday morning, lots of memories waiting to be found, i'm struggling to remember goals being scored, i'm hoping fossils will jog me memory a bit.

Leicester Ghost I got to thinking about the Plymouth game I'm almost sure it must have been Jan 92 because a couple of weeks before we had beaten Brighton 2-1 on boxing day at filbo and their tops were pink Although Brighton fans said it was Salmon (yer right it IS Brighton!) Remember it was a bit chilly and there wasn't many Leicester fan's Still can't remember who scored, but of course that year was the first of the play offs and the end of the old div 2!
leicester ghost Posted 11 September 2008 Author Posted 11 September 2008 he's not bald. it could have been january, there was'nt many leicester fans there, whats nagging away at me,is how soon plymouth got their goals, i'm pretty sure they were 1-o up when we got to the ground, they may even have been 2-0 up after 15 or 20 minutes.
foxhound Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 I went to that with my dad and my cousin. I felt sick though and spent the entire game propped up against that white wall that used to run the length of the touchline at the front of the old Main Stand, thinking I was going to chuck up all over the side of the pitch. One of our players took a throw-in at one point and nearly got his boots full of vomit (think it was Tony Spearing, who would have deserved it - although looking at the dates now, probably not).Dreadful game. From what I remember as well, it was absolutely freezing. Also remember a home game against Derby (think it was later that season, 91/92? when Ormondroyd scored for them). It's funny looking back at records of the first games that I went to. Those two feel like a couple of the first ones but I actually went to the 5-2 defeat at home to Sheffield United which was the last game of the 1989/90 season so my first game must have been midway through that season. I've always thought that we won with a McAllister penalty against Hull so I think it must have been the 2-1 towards the end of 89, looking in my 'Essential History of...' - although I always thought it was 1-0. That 5-2 against Sheffield United sticks in the memory though - Tony Agana up front. I was at this game standing in Pen 4, about 15 mins from kick off when in came a load of bizzies closely followed by a Load of Sheff Utd fans. Their part was full so they bunged about 150 of then in with about the same number of Leicester. It was very surreal almost like being in the away end. At the end of the game I turned to the group who had been standing close to me and shook-ed their hands and wished them well in Div 1.
leicester ghost Posted 11 September 2008 Author Posted 11 September 2008 good memory foxhound, we had 2 sheff u lads and their girlfriends sitting next to us, we were next to pen 4 above the mainstand. i spoke to a leicester lad today,he told me stories from his following leicester away days, his days were late sixties and through the seventies, very interesting.

I missed a mates wedding for that Sheff U game - turned up in the main stand enclosure in suit & tie - with carnation. Made it back pissed & pissed up for the reception!

Lost 2-1 to a Don Goodman last-minute winner. I thought we were definitely doomed to relegation that day, but the baggies drew their last six games and we beat Portsmouth and Oxford and drew at Sheffield Wednesday, so we stayed up by one point.
Harborough casual Posted 12 September 2008 Posted 12 September 2008 Southend away bank holiday monday
leicester ghost Posted 12 September 2008 Author Posted 12 September 2008 southend..........away. thanks to fez,i know it was august, scorching hot,and three games in to a new season, this week,i was lucky enough to bump into a couple of lads from the derby play-off bus and this little trip down to southend. a story they remembered from derby is a bit too late, but the memories of the trip to southend....... southend away. we're off early on the m1,a collection of workmates, and friends of, its a good laugh with the provisions we've brought along, and we are full of anticipation, football, comradeship, and a trip to the seaside, we make good time and we're round the dreaded m25 and on the a127 for half ten, we make a stop at a roadside inn, could have been the dick turpin, we discuss 2 major rumours that have been circulating recently, one concerns a west ham presence in the evening, and a more immediate one concerning police checks looking for beer cans on mini busses, we leave the inn,and after a lengthy debate any remaining cans are binned, sure enough, one mile up the a127 is a police check, we're pulled over and our driver taken aside, hes gruffly told,[one can found, your arrested, and the bus goes no further] a sergent major type and companion arrogantly enter the side of the bus, they sweep the back, while 2 more go through the front, they chill out on finding nothing, and are soon laughing along with us, we're back on the journey, and its not far to go, times pressing, but luckyly the ground is reached before the town centre, we park down a sidestreet and get straight into the ground, its a small ground and leicester pack the away end, the game is tense, its hot,and there seems to be more drama behind the goal than on the field, 87 minutes and we're 1-0 down, the teams playing towards the fans and we're getting desperate, leicester get the equaliser and the away end erupts, no sooner have we caught our breath, theres a scramble in southends box, the balls poked into the net and suddenly we're 2-1 up,leicester fans climb up and cover the fence that surrounds the pitch, the players are up the fence from the pitch side and everyones gone wild, the whistle goes,we've won, we've got fantastic away support and its the start of some brilliant days out following the team, the leicester fans leave the ground, large numbers heading towards southend town and the sea front, our 12 get a double decker to town, from the topdeck we see an amazing sight, a wedding party is posing for photos on the lawn in front of a church, a group of 100 or more leicester fans nimblely nip between photographer and wedding party, on arrival in town,we head straight for the front, some of the group go paddling, some sit on the promanade wall, its all high jinx untill one of the lads creeps up on an unsuspecting paddler, with panto shouts of[hes behind you] we all witness the first swim of the night, theres a brief chase and eventually we're walking along the sea front ready for a nights celebration, 3 of us are at the front walking casually along when from out of nowhere, one of a passing group launches himself at one of ours, theres a brief fight and police are swarming all over in seconds, the batons are out and the police seperate everyone, end result is, we're one man down ,,along with one west ham, we start to sample the bars but its a bit subdued, it seems the bars on the sea front are full of leicester lads, slowly the evening livens up,and we find ourselves in a large bar with a large dance floor, the place is rocking with what seems a massive contingent of leicester, madness is blaring out and its like being on the terraces,as huge crowd surges go back and forth, we leave the scene to collect our mate, theres a few dramas on the way but we get there eventually, down to the police station, the waiting rooms bursting with what looks like half west ham, half leicester, one of our group says he'll handle it,goes to the desk and is soon told to sit down else hes nicked, we make our own entertainment, time goes by, 2 hours later and we're told to go,without our mate, never dull watching leicester by the sea.
leicester ghost Posted 14 September 2008 Author Posted 14 September 2008 peterborough v leicester......90s we're going for promotion,so hopes are high, 2 car loads rendervous at market harborough, we press on,and take a break just outside peterborough, we're expecting to win so we're in high spirits, the furniture and ornaments have been rearranged a bit, but theres no damage,so we take our leave, in the away end and its packed solid, in glorious sunshine,a conversation in front of us attracts our attention, 2 bags are quickly produced, 1 bag is used to collect the money, the other bag is used for the clothes, soon after, the 2 leicester streakers are helped over the fence,a dangerous task in itself, this is no 30 second streak on a football pitch as the leicester lads skip and dance all over, these lads are certainly nimble, unfortunately, the team don't seem to cover the same amount of the pitch, and leicester get stuffed, fortunately the fans continue to turn out in big numbers, ever confident they'll get success, the team regroup, and pull their socks up, its a big dissapointment at the posh, but leicester will be back.
