Went to Forest in 93 to watch LCFC beat Portsmouth 1 v 0 and set up a day out in Wembley ;)

Remember Newcastle in 94 at home when it was our 1st game in the prem and lost 3 v 1

Remember beating Spurs with a David Lowe curling shot 3 v 1 nice  and Ipswich at home in 94 with a long haired fooker up front who was quite good I remembered! Marshy!

All the Wembley playoff finals :@ :@ :scarf:

Beating Northampton 4 zip at Filbo and there being a Cobblers fan in front of me in the double decker (I saw his claret collar) & was going on & on about how shiite this lot were

Snowing at home to Birmingham City

Boro at home with Jamie Pollock scoring a cracker & we lost

Playing Posh with an almost waterlogged pitch at Filbo & Paul Furlong? crashing into a goal post *ouch* >_<

Brighton at the Goldstone - 90? 91? Game postponed close to kickoff due to waterlogged pitch. We'd got all the way down there only to find out it had been called off. Kevin Campbell was outside the ground signing autographs. I've still got it somewhere.

Notts County 91? 92? Getting crushed against the wire mesh barrier at the front of the pen when our fans surged through into the side stand when they opened the gates. Probably absolutely **** all at the time but I felt like it was Hillsborough given I was only 7 or 8. I had the cross-hatches from the wire imprinted on my face. Walshie was sent off, that's all I remember. Think it was for an elbow. It was either 1-1 or 2-1 to them though I think.

Forest in 94 getting beat 4-0. Lars Bohinen hat-trick I think. We were garbage. We were in the Upper Bridgfield feeling like twats all game. We were garbage. Got promoted that year.

And then the ultimate, the single greatest away game of my Leicester-supporting life...

August 31st 1991 - Southend away. Wright and Walsh. Absolutely incredible. The sun was out, we were still on a high from the Oxford game that ended the season before. 4 points from the first 2 games and went to Southend in the blazing hot sun, scored two late goals right in front of the City fans on the terrace, the two heroes in the team really, nothing will ever beat that - not even the cup games over the past year or two or the Derby 4-0. That day was something unbelievably special.

I remember the Notts game I think we took about 7 thousand that day and they started putting us in one pen behind the

goal ,when that was full they opened up the next pen and everyone spilled into that and when that was full they opened

a third pen which became over full and people spilled on to the pitch which was a bit of a worry as this was not long after

Hillsborough.

I can remember listening to Radio Leicester for the Southend game back in the days before live comentry when they used

to interupt songs with the goal horn, with about 87 mins gone we were 1-0 down and they were playing Come Dancing

and they had to interupt it twice with the Leicester goal horn. Happy days.

I still think one of the funniest away days has to be the trip to Meadow Lane first match of a new season.Derek Pavis was so proud of his new look ground with 3 brand new shiny stands and he went fookin crakers at us taking the pee....just made things worse of course! :giggle:

Wasn't that in 92/93? Derek Pavis! Right up there with Doug Ellis, Peter Swailes and Santa Bates in the chairmen you love to hate league. City sang all the way through his pitchside announcement proclaiming the great day it was for Notts County and he stopped near the end and just muttered...."Bastards!"..... :crylaugh:

My best memory was the 4-0 against the shaggers at their new grey, featureless bowl (April 25th 1998). I don't have to look up the date because I went to the game with my ex-girlfriends best mate, saw us hit four and ended up carrying on the scoring when we got home. Anyways......singing we want 5 after twenty minutes against your local rivals can't be beaten. The ground was near empty by half-time and we ran riot in the stands and on the pitch. Beating Liverpool, Man Utd & Chelsea on their own grounds comes close, sharing a bit of banter with Spurs and West Ham - a couple of blokes called Keef and Don bought us all a pint in the pub down the road from the Boleyn Ground - but the fact it was Derby is the clincher.

Weirdest day would have been Blackburn away (98/99?), winning 5-3 on a May day so cold it actually snowed, sleeted and hailed. Both sides gave up on defending and it was so bad for Rovers that Ullathorne and little Stewie Wilson got on the scoresheet. Doing a conga down the front of the stand and finishing the season in the top ten again with a trophy too.

Worst memory. More than anything like the hammerings at Arsenal, the nightmare coach trip (why?) to Madrid, the shocking cup defeat at Wolves (Julian Watts getting dumped on his arse as Wolves hit us on a counter attack... >_< ...) or the Wembley robbings was my first away game. Ipswich, New Years Day 1995. You will never, ever, sit in a colder stand than the one at Portman that day. It was minus 5, icy, with a stiff breeze coming in off the coast. We were already battling it out with Ipswich for the wooden spoon in the Premier League but we ended up down to 10 men and losing 4-1. The three hour coach trip felt like three days. I swore I'd never go to an away game again. The following day I snapped up tickets for Arsenal (defeat) and Wolves (see above). I must have been mental.

does any leicester fan, have any comments to make regarding matches in the 1980s or 1990s.

i'm especially interested to hear, interesting, factual stories, particularly if it involves a game iv'e mentioned

thanks,in anticipation.

Going Sheff Utd away in 89 - first ever away game and being scared of their strike duo Deane and Agana.

Went into the home stand as my Dad's mate had got us tickets and we drew 1-1 - remembering cheering like mad in the

home end when we scored. I was only 12 however !!

wembley.....play-off final

v........derby

this must qualify for the top 10.......the longest day.

i never thought i'd ever see leicester at englands home of football.

all of a sudden we seemed to be there every year.

previously,we'd been robbed at wembley by a dive twice,in my opinion.

we go by mini bus,a collection of workmates, friends, and 2 ladies.

third time lucky, hopefully, we're full of anticipation as we head down the m1.

we park on the edge of london, then away on the tube straight to wembley park,

this was more buisness like,no heading straight to central london.

we hang around the greyhound, but the landlords not opening,

cans are provided by a shop down the road,

all of a sudden, theres a procession coming down, the crowds part to allow it through,

its three leicester lads, all carrying sheeps heads,

we go in the ground,,after 2 dissapointments this has got to be it,

its a brilliant atmosphere and the flags are out in force,

the game starts, derby get the first chance, practically an open goal and tommy johnson screws it wide,

johnson gets another chance soon after, this time he scores and we're 1 down for the third successive wembley final,

soon after, a high lob goes goes into derbies penalty area, walshy jumps with the keeper, and 17 defenders,

walshy outjumps them all, his headers got direction, but is short on pace,

then a occurs an amazing sporting moment,

the derby defenders legs have turned to jelly,he can only wobble as every single player and fan watches the ball slowly cross the line,

we're level and leicester fans celebrate,

half time, its 1-1,so much at stake, and the noise is getting louder,

second half, derby get a fantastic chance, the players through,1 on 1 and and puts it wide from about 10 yards out.

leicester attack down the right, superb cross, header comes in but the derby keeper pushes it away,

the ball lands at walshys feet and he somehow manages to scramble the ball home,

leicester fans go absolutely beserk,

we manage to see the game out,we've done it,won at wembley, time to celebrate,

the trophy is handed over, and just a faint glimpse of it being raised is enough,

this is a big day, flags and banners will now be being put up the length of narborough road,

we go down the stairs, one of ours shows me the inside of his coat,

i can't believe it,its his seat,what a fantastic momento,

we take a hike away from the stadium,we're buzzing and thirsty as its a long road,

first pub we reach and its got around 30 derby in,

we take the front bar and let whats just happenned on the pitch sink in,

derby have the middle and back bars, and come for a look at us now and then,

the atmospheres tense,

we decide to leave and rejoin the tube,a pint at each tube stop will provide a suitable celebration,

we enjoy the evening, hopping on and off the tube,

only major incident is when entering one station we find someone lying on the floor,

one of our group gives first aid, help arrives and we're soon off,and back on the motorway,

we're all still a bit hyper,

a quick call in a service station, only 2 of our group goes in to buy something,

the mini-bus is parked at the bottom of the steps leading to the entrance,

soon after, our 2 come out the doors a bit swifter than they'ed gone in,

4 or 5 derby are flying through the doors with 1 of them a bit too quick for his own good,

the lead derby lad has put the breaks on,by the time he's near the bottom of the steps, theres a line of us forming,

his exact words were...too late,

derby sheepishly retreated,it had been a bad day for them,

leicester had been promoted ,we were over the moon,

but knackered,it had definately been one of the longest days.

I remember that night at Meadow Lane in the ZDS cup.

Went on the train and when we arrived at Notts station, the police kept us all in for about an hour while we waited to find out if the game was on or not. It was quite a confined space with a low roof and the noise was deafening.

Remember a copper on a horse keep telling us to shut up cos he couldn't hear his radio.

Eventually got the news and they escorted us to the ground. By this time there must have been a couple of thousand city fans at the station I remember looking back and not being able to see the end of the convoy. When we arrived at Meadow Lane they had 2 turnstiles open there was nearly a riot!

Happy Days

Yes! I remember that, and the fact I can remember it was Come Dancing! I thought I was the only person with that kind of memory!

I also remember an evening game against Barnsley, I think, where Hot Love by T Rex was interupted about 3 or 4 times, once for a goal to the away team, the rest were us. I wondered if they'd ever finish playing that song!

One of the worst matches I remember seeing was Port Vale at filbert street about 1991, they scored I think from a cross/shot in the 1st minute and then proceeded to defend for the next 90mins and still won 1-0.

Thankfully we beat derby away the following week. And all was forgotten.

As mentioned before the Notts County Swimathon with more away than home fans...people just pissing in the terracing because it was so wet you didn't care.

Almost getting crushed leaving the stadium after the Pompey game at the City Ground - Joachim's cracker after the Pompey twats had been taking the piss. Thompson scoring the 3rd in the final before being robbed again. Central news panned around the crowd with Everybody Hurts from REM in the background...still remember it.

Forest 88/89, replay of the Cup 4th round Groves scored a header that must have nearly taken his head off, the cross was that hard.

Splitting up with my girlfriend at Uni then coming back home to see us go 2-0 down to Wolves before big Iwan scored 2 and missed the chance of a winner on his debut.

All the 80's / 90's average players who are now 'Master's + Jari Rantanen!!

But the best moment......December 98, City beat Forest 3-1 and Van nob cheese gets sent off for a late tackle on Walsh.

But more importantly, the most impecably respected minutes silence I have ever known. The week after a mini bus of Forest and City fans had been killed on the A50. Really was a special moment, hairs standing up on the back of your neck time and no lie, you could have heard a pin drop

Made me proud to be a football fan, not just a City fan.

tranmere away.

there was a funny incident in the tranmere ticket office.....or was it a cabin,

tickets were only being sold to the locals,

when one of our group was asked who we supported,

you really did here the worst birkenhead accent ever,

tickets secured,we took our places in a decent...ish mainstand,

leicester scored first,

there was the odd bit of critisism aimed at brian little that sometimes when leicester went ahead,

the team would be instructed to take their foot off the accelerator, and drop back.

during this game was a case in point,

leicester found themselves 2-1 down.

i can't remember how the goals were scored,

but leicester had just enough battling qualities to get ahead again and win the game 3-2.

That was Shrewsbury.

I travelled back from uni for a boxing-football weekender. On the Friday night the De Montfort Hall was showing a live screening of the Sibson-Hagler world title fight (no Sky back then). Leicester was hit by blizzards which meant the buses stopped running and I had to walk miles to DMH in the snow.

Hagler destroyed Sibbo in five rounds, much to the disappointment of the packed house. Many of us had to endure another long trek home at 4am through arctic conditions.

Not surprisingly, the match the next day was postponed. It was rescheduled for later in the month (by which time I was back at uni), and took place on a frostbound pitch in temperatures of (so I'm told) -10C. No wonder the crowd was so poor!

Incidentally, the Shrewsbury centre-half that night was a certain Nigel Pearson. Wonder what became of him? lol

I used to stand in the Main Stand enclosure - couldn't stand the racist lowlife that too frequently infested the Kop in those days, often to the detriment of our own players as well as the opposition.

After years of being able to stand wherever I liked, after Brian Little arrived in 1991-92 the terrace would fill up on a regular basis. There were some incredible moshes in there, especially after the last-minute winners against Palace (our first FA Cup win in SEVEN years!) and Tranmere (courtesy of the mighty Rooster :worship:).

I'm not sure that the present generation of fans would be too keen on it, mind - we live in different times...

the old valley,........charlton athletic..................early 80s

a few hundred leicester on the special train, escorted to the approach road leading to the ground,

large bloke standing on the corner selling his wares, shouts,[cam an get yer peanuts].

seem to remember going through the turnstiles, then you find your self in a big car park,

away fans were expected to walk to the right,

i don't seem to remember hardly anyone behind the goal,

away fans would walk right round to the giant side terrace,

you could well imagine 10 thousand people waving flatcaps in the air,in the 1930s,

leicester had a poorly fenced off bottom left corner of the side terrace,as you looked at the pitch,

the strange thing about this old traditional ground, was that you could walk right around the ground,

i think charlton had a strike force of hales and flannigan,

i remember going again to the valley a few years later,

this time leicester fans were behind the goal,in seats,

this time charlton had a world famous striker in alan simmonson,

i'm not sure of the scores,i think we won 1,lost 1,

anyone else visit the old valley.

I went to that with my dad and my cousin. I felt sick though and spent the entire game propped up against that white wall that used to run the length of the touchline at the front of the old Main Stand, thinking I was going to chuck up all over the side of the pitch. One of our players took a throw-in at one point and nearly got his boots full of vomit (think it was Tony Spearing, who would have deserved it - although looking at the dates now, probably not).

Dreadful game. From what I remember as well, it was absolutely freezing. Also remember a home game against Derby (think it was later that season, 91/92? when Ormondroyd scored for them).

It's funny looking back at records of the first games that I went to. Those two feel like a couple of the first ones but I actually went to the 5-2 defeat at home to Sheffield United which was the last game of the 1989/90 season so my first game must have been midway through that season. I've always thought that we won with a McAllister penalty against Hull so I think it must have been the 2-1 towards the end of 89, looking in my 'Essential History of...' - although I always thought it was 1-0.

That 5-2 against Sheffield United sticks in the memory though - Tony Agana up front.

Posted
did'nt sheffield united get promoted that day, their 5-2 win,

seem to recall the odd pitch invasion,or 4 on that occasion as well.

Yep.

Years later when I got chatting with a mate at uni it turned out he was in the away section in the old East Stand that day. Think that is one of their all-time awesome away days, which is understandable banging in five away from home on the last day of the season and going up. Closest I can get to that is Watford when Muzzy put us into the play-offs, although I'm sure someone will bring up the 1-0 Larry May 1980 Orient away game where we took 10,000 fans and got promoted (sure all of that is right, it was before my time).
