fox123 Posted 1 September 2008 Posted 1 September 2008 Maybe posted before, or something similar, im just kinda dredging up an old post of mine, because have been thinking about it today and I genuinly believe relegation will do us the world of good! I think getting relegated has done us the World of good to be honest, there has been so much negativity surrounding our club, i suppose you could go back to that fateful cup game against Wycombe.Winning mentality and pride was needed to be installed and if going down a division was needed to drive this club forward then I for one am glad to be going to places like Cheltenham! I'll admit I wasn't best pleased bout Nigel Pearson being installed as Manager infact my words were 'What a boring appointment" I for one am glad to eat my words if it removes the cancer eating away at our club!
BrockwellFox Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 on reflection I'm in this camp too - what we were doing was putting band-aids on a gaping wound rather than the major surgery it needed - we'd been on a slow decline for a few seasons but on relegation it's a great way to get rid of dead wood, uncommitted players etc and get the youth in.. plus a season of winning some games will help build team spirit which we all know is vital and I think had been missing last year with so many loanees.
James. Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 Getting relegated was the best thing to happen to this club for years.
davieG Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 The best thing about being relegated was it justified the removal of Holloway and probably forced Pearson on to us. However would Pearson have been able to have had the same impact in the Championship I think yes because for me the major change has been in attitude, approach/style of play, team morale/strength and integrity that would have happened anyway with Pearson.
Cheese Me Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 Agreed, I doubt that Pearson would have been our manager if we hadn't been relegated as we'd probably have ended up with more of a 'name' (for 'name' read previous failure). With what appears to be exactly the right manager in charge, the talented young players we've got being given a chance (and others being added) and a winning season I certainly believe we'll get some momentum behind us and be in a much better place in 2-3 seasons time than if we hadn't been relegated. This season already looks like being great fun now the indignity of relegation is fading and I think it will set us up for bigger and better things.
Ric Flair Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 It's still early days for me, but I like the positivity in the club right now. I'd much rather be in this league getting ourselves sorted and building something than fire fighting in The Championship amongst the other ten a penny clubs.
ozleicester Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 I can see how we are valueing "the experience" of relegation and yes, it has led to some wins etc, but we must keep in mind we are division 3, at least half of our squad is supposedly of championship quality and much as Pearson is currently our lord and saviour...we are in division 3! Even with the much discussed tactical inability of holloway, i assume/expect we would have been doing well in this division with this squad. Relegation will only have had any positive benefits if we achieve immediate promotion and as a result develop a winning mentality. However it cant end there, after promotion this season we will need to see the follow up season have us in a position to challenge for the playoffs in the championship. All of this sounds like high expectation, but...lets be serious, we are in Division 3...we should not be here, we are a club worthy of the premiership and i will not be happy unless we are there.
GLC Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 im glad we got relegated now, we have got rid of soemgood players but replaced them with good quality young players, tunchev is a great capture, gradel is exciting dickov will score when hes upfront dyer is class i hope we keep gilbert and im glad we have pearson may i be tempted to say the new O'Neill for this cub???

And how I got slaughtered for saying exactly that when Kelly was here.
The Stig Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 If we get promoted this season, it may have been a good thing, but we will only truly know if it was a good thing at the end of next season. If we're still here, bad thing. If we're in a better position than we were when we left the championship, e.g not fighting to stay up, good thing.
