Cheese Me Posted 26 September 2008 Posted 26 September 2008 That was shocking - I remember being absolutely livid. Interesting to see it in that company though, they're have been equally shocking decisions since then
Guest Posted 26 September 2008 Posted 26 September 2008 You can rely on Daggers! Hang on, it wasn't Daggers, was it? Oops.......
Fez of Mahrez Posted 26 September 2008 Posted 26 September 2008 Danny Baker is a hero. Heard him back on Radio Five on the way back from the Lincoln game on Tuesday, best thing on radio by a country mile.
Fox You Forest Posted 26 September 2008 Posted 26 September 2008 Just shows that things haven't changed much since then in refereeing terms. Always guaranteed a good few shockers a season. Also the one underneath.
The People's Hero Posted 26 September 2008 Posted 26 September 2008 Danny Baker is a hero. Heard him back on Radio Five on the way back from the Lincoln game on Tuesday, best thing on radio by a country mile. Absolutely agree. He has a personality and everything. Something lacking on radio.
Corky Posted 26 September 2008 Posted 26 September 2008 Danny Baker is a hero. Heard him back on Radio Five on the way back from the Lincoln game on Tuesday, best thing on radio by a country mile. Oh Lord (Gavin Ward, just for TPH ) yes. Danny Baker is absolute class on 606, real passion for football, doesn't go over the boring "top 4" all the time, mixes it up with humour and has a personality. He should be on Wednesdays as well, sod off Lovejoy (and Spoony can go too).
SouthLondonFox Posted 26 September 2008 Posted 26 September 2008 He's on radio london every week day - 3 till 5. You can listen to it via the BBC website, they used to have a web cam in the studio, dunno if they still do.
Russell352 Posted 26 September 2008 Posted 26 September 2008 "It was scandalous, an absolute scandal … football has a maggot at its golden core, and that maggot is referees … we've been at that game for two hours and the referee was bad all the way through it … what is the point of people running themselves to a standstill, what is the point supporters investing time money and emotion, what is the point in anyone investing millions in football when the whole thing rests on some erstwhile van driver from Folkestone who's probably had a row with his wife? If this was a boxing match and the referee turned round and gave the fight to the bloke who was knocked out on the floor we would say you can't do that … most of them need a good slap round the face … hacks should doorstep this man like he's a member of Oasis … that worm should be on the phone now, Radio Five should be knocking down that ref's dressing room and asking do you know on behalf of all referees how bad you are?" What a ledge.
Bert Posted 26 September 2008 Posted 26 September 2008 I (my mum) had to buy a new radio after the 5th worst ever refereeing decision.

How is he a legend for being such a dick head?
Asha Posted 27 September 2008 Posted 27 September 2008 How is he a legend for being such a dick head? I agree with DB (Danny Baker). Was an outrageous decision.
OzFox Posted 27 September 2008 Posted 27 September 2008 I spoke to Spencer Prior about this recently. If memory serves me right, he was the closest player when Erland hit the turf Spencers still livid even now..says he's hated Chelsea ever since
Russell352 Posted 27 September 2008 Posted 27 September 2008 How is he a legend for being such a dick head? Just to clarify - I meant Danny Baker being a ledge for coming out with a speech like that, not the dick head ref.
DB11 Posted 27 September 2008 Posted 27 September 2008 Just to clarify - I meant Danny Baker being a ledge for coming out with a speech like that, not the dick head ref. I know what you meant
Russell352 Posted 28 September 2008 Posted 28 September 2008 I know what you meant So you don't like DB?
samuel Posted 28 September 2008 Posted 28 September 2008 Why would anyone be looking at the Guardian in the first place anyway?...
DB11 Posted 28 September 2008 Posted 28 September 2008 So you don't like DB? He isn't a legend at all for saying something like that about the Referee. He's a twat.
Russell352 Posted 28 September 2008 Posted 28 September 2008 He isn't a legend at all for saying something like that about the Referee. He's a twat. I understand Referee's come under a lot of pressure but a top level professional, paid referee simply shouldn't get blatant decisions like that wrong. So IMO it's well said.
The Stig Posted 28 September 2008 Posted 28 September 2008 He isn't a legend at all for saying something like that about the Referee. He's a twat. If someone made an equivialnt of such a cock up in the real world they would come under just as much scrutiny. He made a awful, costly and blatant cock up and deserved critisism. Wake up Danny, refs shouldn't be immune to critisism if they truly deserve it. And bear in mind I am in the process of becoming a ref myself and have done plenty of reffing in the past.

The Stig Posted 28 September 2008 Posted 28 September 2008 I don't even know what this cock up is. I just saw what he put. Well maybe you would understand where Danny Baker was coming from if you understood what he was referring to. You cannot judge whether someone is right to say something if you don't know what they're talking about.

You cannot judge whether someone is right to say something if you don't know what they're talking about. Well he isn't right calling all Referees maggots
The Reverend Posted 28 September 2008 Posted 28 September 2008 I don't even know what this cock up is. I just saw what he put. So erm, how the hell can you comment on Danny Baker slating the ref when you havent seen the incident? There's no such thing as a good referee DB, just because you referee the odd under 7's match, it doesnt make you any more qualified to comment. The decision was a disgrace, and the ref whould have been sacked. Same as the ref who did the Watford game should have been sacked. Does that make me a twat? No. It means im looking at it from a normal perspective. No-one could expect to make such a howler in their line of work, and keep their job. There are no good referees, that is an absolute fact. We need robots or something, becausehumans aren't capable.
The Stig Posted 28 September 2008 Posted 28 September 2008 Well he isn't right calling all Referees maggots I believe he was referring to the bad ones not all of them.
