Bert Posted 15 October 2008 Author Posted 15 October 2008 Rooney and Heskey were fooking brilliant tonight. Also Gerrard who was my MOTM. The guy is brilliant, I slated him tonight to Alb before the game and he comes up with a great goal and carried the team. I really think he leads by example and gives us a different dimension to attack which I think no International team come up with.Gareth Barry and Frank Lampard hardly set the world alight tonight and didn't convince me one single bit. Capello has obviously told them in training to drop in and let Gerrard in the free-role tonight and frankly it's worked much better. Bridge did alright considering he's only had 4 competitve games this season but if i'm honest I think Chrissy Powell would of done a better job at left back. The way people slated Ashley Cole on Saturday was ridiculous at least Cole puts a decent ball at the right time. Unlike Bridge. Upson hasn't convinced me to earn a right to play in the XI he is still abit shaky and doesn't like to keep possesion whereas Rio Ferdinand is probably the most composed defender English Football has got but still needs a great CB partner. (Vidic @ Utd, Terry @ England). Another thing I pointed out is how much a miss Joe Cole is. If he was on the left side we'd of completely battered Belarus (bar no injuries i.e Terry). But a win is a win, we did the job. As much as I follow the Scotland, England are a passion and Croatia, Kazackstan (sp) Andorra and tonight made me proud to be English. Good post mate.
Tevez Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 I hope you took my advice. I did say 3-1! 9/1, cheers then. Also had Gerrard to score first and 2-0. I know I should've done Gerrard 3-1. Never mind. A good professional performance, 3 good goals, 3 points, we sit nicely on top of the group with 12 points. Lampard won a lot of the ball tonight, Rooney was class. I don't think I seen him get a touch of the ball second half?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 I don't rate Bridge at all. I think it was you Tevez who asked why Stephen Warnock wasn't in the squad. I'd have liked to have seen him play.

Yeah, correct is was. I think Warnock has had equally a decent season as Wes Brown had last season. If Capello is choosing players over form and consistency then why isn't Warnock in there? I really think there is some pressure from the fans that if players like Warnock, Downing, Bullard (for example) they can easily be made scapegoats for what is going wrong. Onwards and upwards though. It's more than I expected from the first few games of the campaign.

Corky Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 I would have said 7 points from 12 out of the first 4 games. That's about right. The goal difference will be very useful later on in the group.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 For some reason I can see England only getting a draw in Ukraine. A 1-1 or 0-0. A win in Kiev (whenever that game is), would be brilliant, because I can't see the team dropping points at Wembley.
Joe. Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 I would have said 10, 9 minimum though surely? You've got to expect wins against Andorra, Kazhakstan and Belarus haven't you?
Corky Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 A break early doors for ITV. <_< Pleaty's off for his nightly trip around the streets for ladies of the night in Andy Townsend's Tactics Truck. Fact. Maybe
lildave3 Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 I would have said 10, 9 minimum though surely? You've got to expect wins against Andorra, Kazhakstan and Belarus haven't you? Yeah I would have said 10. Especially a Hleb-less Belarus.
Tevez Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 Yeah I would have said 10.Especially a Hleb-less Belarus. Agreed. Belarus were a tricky little team tonight, wern't scared to attack.

You should expect yes, but this is England and Belarus is/was a tricky tie.
lildave3 Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 at Gerrard going to slide on his knees and flipping over. That goal seemed like something off of Fifa/Pro to me
Tevez Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 at Gerrard going to slide on his knees and flipping over. That goal seemed like something off of Fifa/Pro to me First goal? It did look a weird camera angle. Bloody Setanta.
lildave3 Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 First goal?It did look a weird camera angle. Bloody Setanta. Yeah. Even the celebration looked like my Euro 2008 game
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 A point would be good in Kiev, but 3 even more so. You should expect yes, but this is England and Belarus is/was a tricky tie. Yeah. It's all about how they set up really. If they only need to better Croatia's results against us then (providing England beat Croatia at Wembley), you'd think they'd set up defensively and play for a draw, and England's weakness over the last few seasons has been breaking down teams playing 10 men behind the ball. Hopefully they go for broke and attack, they've got some decent players, like Shevchenko and Tymoschuk, probably just as good as Croatia tbh.
lildave3 Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 WHY DID YOU DUCK WES BROWN YOU ABSOLUTE TOILET?! Because usually when a cross floats into the 6 yard box, it's the keepers ball. Not with David James though of course.
Joe. Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 Walcott should clearly have made at least some effort for the first goal. As much his fault as Brown's, if not more in my opinion.
Bert Posted 15 October 2008 Author Posted 15 October 2008 Walcott should clearly have made at least some effort for the first goal. As much his fault as Brown's, if not more in my opinion. I concur.
lildave3 Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 Well played Emile Heskey you sexy sexy man. Fantastic, the Bruno of old.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 I just pointed at the TV and shouted "****" when Barwick was on. I can't stand him.
Tevez Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 The "Die Hard England Fans who were parading their Sports Direct England Shirt" where abusing Heskey all first half. Soon shut up when Heskey set Rooney up. I wanted to shout come and get your dinner but I'd of probably got barred.
