Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 October 2008 Posted 15 October 2008 What does everyone think about Rio as captain? Personally I think he's got all the attributes of a good captain, but some people don't seem to rate him as skipper.
Ultra Posted 16 October 2008 Posted 16 October 2008 He's done a good stand-in job. Still think JT's a better skipper, though.
Hullfox Posted 16 October 2008 Posted 16 October 2008 Well, what a day out. Minsk is lovely. The people are lovely. The money is mad. Whilst the game is all about differing opinions, I reckon that Heskey was as everybody has said phenomenal. Walcott had a bad day at the office. Bridge was suprisingly solid at left back, disappointing on the overlap. Upson didn't look out of his depth to me. Lampard ran for fooking miles and miles. Rooney was excellent. The supporters were excellent in a roofless stadium and how nice to hear both national anthems respected at the beginning. Even nicer to see the appreciation of the Belarussians of the England teamsheet. I'm waiting for school drop off time then I'm off to bed for a couple of hours, I deserve my bed after 30 hours of being up.
purpleronnie Posted 16 October 2008 Posted 16 October 2008 My dad watched it and said our defence looked iffy, which against a team like that is worrying, he also said gerrard missed an absolute sitter to rival that scottish one last weekend. He mentioned Heskey looked solid and rooney (who hes not a big fan of) was very good. My worry if thats true, is the strength in depth, especially if we have to play a decent team.
Ric Flair Posted 16 October 2008 Posted 16 October 2008 Goal! By the way, your signature is wrong. We have only played 9 games in the league so far.

Ric Flair Posted 16 October 2008 Posted 16 October 2008 I'd like to congratulate Wayne Rooney on finally being given the instructions to go and make use of his talent in an England shirt, which has been missing for 4 years. The lad is unstoppable at the minute and it's a joy to watch. Heskey helps him out no end and wouldn't it be nice if Emile could get himself a goal or two every so often as a reward for the work he put's in. Capello is going about things very impressively, be good to see us against a very strong side soon to see how far we have come since the shambles of McLaren.
purpleronnie Posted 16 October 2008 Posted 16 October 2008 Its the ruble isnt it? I think you get about 4,000 rubles for £1. But I'm probably wrong.
Hullfox Posted 16 October 2008 Posted 16 October 2008 In what way? Is it cheap as fook out there? Didn't partake of alcohol but talking to a guy who said the most he paid for a beer was 68p. We had 9 hours in Minsk which is a long time to be walking around so after a few hours trudging round the sights and the shops we set ourselves up in the bar of the team hotel which was across the road from the stadium. Two of us ate and drank for around 3 hours and the bill was £16. It is illegal to bring money out of the country and people were trying desperately to spend their wads at the end of the night. I actually changed some money back into sterling but brought back a wad of notes totalling about 40,000 roubles which looks impressive but is worth about £13. They have no coins in circulation.

I cant help feeling we are beginning to get ahead of ourselves once again. We've played 1 decent team and scored 3 of our goals when they were down to 10 men. Kazakhstan and Andorra first half performances were woeful. I dont think we really can see if were improved until we play better quality teams. But from what I have seen we do seem more focused.

That sounds amazing and crazy at the same time, I might have to pay a visit there sometime. I'm off to Eastern Europe next week, i'm hoping it's dirt cheap as i'll be there on the piss and some 68p beers will be very welcome.
Tilley Posted 16 October 2008 Posted 16 October 2008 Four wins out of four. What more can we ask for. Hopefully I'll see England win a major championship soon.

What trip did you go on? The sportops one or the official Thomas Cook one? Looking at using one of those for next year, which one would you reccomend?
dandannieldanok Posted 16 October 2008 Posted 16 October 2008 I wish Heskey would score. He deserves a goal certainly, Rooney is rightly getting the accolades for two more goals but Heskey certainly needs to be recognised and needs a goal.

It just goes to show, with the right management, and players playing in their correct positions, that teams can go far, and hopefully we can actually fulfill our potential. I love England, and it makes me a bit upset when you have English people who turn their back on their national team for whatever reason. I'm just waiting for the time if we qualify or actually achieve something worth of note, for the bandwagon fans to come back.
Maybes Posted 16 October 2008 Posted 16 October 2008 Emile Heskey - Class. The perfect partner for Wayne Rooney.

Looking at using one of those for next year, which one would you reccomend? Thomas Cook. It's the second one I've done with them and they're shit to be honest. They've only got Germany to do now and then Thomson take over so it'll be interesting to see how they go. Sportops are good from what I hear, I have also used englandfanstravel who were brilliant but stay over for all of their trips which doesn't suit all of the time. Despite the crap organisation, it's still good fun.
Uncle Albert Posted 16 October 2008 Posted 16 October 2008 Where was Gareth Barry? He has no relevance in the England team. Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney and Heskey were all top-notch last night.

Uncle Albert Posted 16 October 2008 Posted 16 October 2008 I believe Barry was only playing as Joe Cole was injured. Best of been. Gerrard and Lampard together have shown that they can play together.
