Sooper Steve's shin Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 Totally underwhelming. He has credentials and experience that would suggest he should be an outstanding performer in this league or the Championship, but he has totally failed to show it in his time with us to date. I cannot recall watching a game since perhaps the win over Coventry when we dominated the opposition. Oakley isn't a tackler and on Saturday seemed to be avoiding challenges. I think the suggestion that our defensive record is somehow down to our midfield pairing is wide of the mark - a more obvious reason is that the opposition strikers have been pretty crap. I think Oakley's rapidly running out of chances, although if we had a proper midfield enforcer alongside him I would like to see if he could become the playmaker we need. With him and King, though, it's just too lightweight.
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 He's a class player. For people to say he doesn't speak to his players, how the fook would you know? Are you saying that you can't see how vocal a player is from watching a game? Oakley just doesn't do the whole geeing people up thing that a captain (or any experienced player) should - think of the likes of Walsh, Taggart, Lennon etc who were proper and obvious leaders. I am not harking back to those days, but cannot remember that sort of leader in a Leicester shirt in recent years - Kisnorbo maybe, there are perhaps others, but definitely not Oakley.
Ric Flair Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 I like him. He could and should be more dominant at this level though. As a captain, it's hard to say. If you aren't visably vocal on the pitch, what else is there for a fan to judge a captain on as they know fook all about what happens off the pitch etc. He did a decent job as captain at Derby when they went up, unless that wasn't him who was captain?
Corky Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 I like him as a player, he isn't going to play expansive passes, he'll try and keep it simple. I feel however that he could be a bit more dominant in the tackle (no pun intended).
Jimmy Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 How on Earth did he captain two clubs before us then? Southampton - he was there longest serving player after their previous captain left Derby - he was captain at Soton
