£80.000 per goal

Siena President Giovanni Lombardi Stronati is to give Brazilian star Ronaldo the opportunity to rebuild his career – at a cost of £80,000 a goal!

The 32-year-old striker is currently training with Flamengo after being released from Milan where he suffered yet another horrific knee injury.

“It’s an idea we are working on,” admitted Stronati. “They tell me that he is really thinking about retiring, but I would like to offer him one last chance.

“I spoke with his manager and I have proposed a contract of £80,000 a goal. I am willing to reduce myself to poverty, but the goals of Ronaldo could save Siena.

“My team plays well, [Marco] Giampaolo is a great Coach,” added an ebullient Stronati. “But we score little.”

Siena have found the net just seven times this season and host Fiorentina in a Tuscan derby on Sunday.

When asked if he was delusional to think a player of Ronaldo’s stature would consider joining Siena, Stronati replied: “The slogan is very simple: Ronaldo, come and try us.”

Stronati did reveal that should Ronaldo turn down the chance to play for Siena, he has another forward lined up to solve the Robur’s scoring problems.

“I have a plan B. Another South American. He plays in Chile. He is Argentine. He is called Gaston Cellerino

What a decline for quite frankly the best ever player in my life time.

He'll still tear up Serie A.

Wish he would of played over here, still think he'd be among the top scorers now in the Premiership.

While I think that he still has goals in him, I don't think he would "Tear Serie A up"

He has lost his way big time, Milan were right to get rid, I hope he can bounce back though.

I agree.

I would of loved to have seen him play, in his prime there was no one better.

What a ridiculous sum of money for a goal, good job he's unlikely to score many.

In what way is it?

if he scores one goal a week it's only £80 000 if he doesn't score he doesn't get paid

The top players in the world already earn twice that a week including half the chelsea team

Only 80 grand? Score one goal and he'll be paid more than most people in a year or two. Mental. Bang me up front and I'll work my nads off to get one goal.

Yes but in terms of a top footballer it remains an average amount and probably similar or less than what what 90% of the Chelsea first team are on a week.

Cech

Terry

Lampard

Drogba

Anelka

Ballack

Carvalho

Essien

A Cole

Deco

all probably earn equal to that or more a week.

my point was that IF Ronaldo scores a goal every other game which is a good record for a striker over a month (4games) then it would work out at like £40000 a week which for a world class striker is nothing these days, if he doesn't score he doesn't get paid.

only £80000 was concerning this and not about the level of footballers wages in general

Exactly.

Good little offer that would work out well for both parties.

He's hardly been struggling by on minimum wage throughout his career, he could retire now and never have to work.

I doubt it, even a half fit (or not fit at all) Ronaldo will still bag at least 15 goals a season.

I'd happily bet that even at just 32, Ronaldo will score no more than 15 league goals in the remainder of his career.

I disagree.

If he stays fit, then he most certainly will score a hatful of goals.
