Academy player ratings v Port Vale

Robert Ambrusics 6.5 (Unlucky his determined block wasn't enough to prevent the Vale goal but produced one excellent save from a Dixon free-kick).

Luke O'Neill 6.5 (Swift, determined and well involved but by no means error free).

Cian Bolger 5 (The big centre-back won his headers but he looked like the latest in the family of City centre-backs who cannot pass and for whom the idea of a cushioned header seems completely foreign).

Tom Parkes 6.5 (Competent enough)

Joe Cobb 5.75 (Stretchered off with a facial injury in the last seconds but gave a determined if rather up and down performance at left back).

Adam Vasey 6.5 (Vital equaliser which he helped to make himself lifted him above most of our other attackers).

Nathan Hicks 5 (Little of note)

Robbie Burns 6 (Vital part in our winning goal but never at his best)

Elliott Chamberlain 5.5 (Subbed after an hour and produced little of note).

Craig King 5 (So frustrating. Just ran into blind alleys and failed to get his head up to see the pictures. Individual ability and athleticism but seemed unable to balance those things by blending into the team-play)

Billy Kee 7 (Marginally MoM simply for scoring the winner, assisting with the equaliser and having the most shots for City. With centre-forward it's effect that counts and, as usual, he had some.)

subs

Yussuf (3) Broke through once and should have scored or made a goal when free only yards from the right-hand post. Instead of pulling the ball back to a waiting attacker he seemed to be all left feet as he scewed a tame shot wide. Bewildering.

No-one else was on long enough to count.

I'm all over Vasey, i'm bagging him as the next one to break through.

I've never understood (and would love to know) what makes it a 5.75 and not a 5.5 or 6.

Vasey often seems a bit of a sapling among the giant oaks but it is rare that he doesn't make something happen either by way of a goal or an assist. He can pass, shoot and he's prepared to work...three important requirements for a potential footballer. Whether he'll develop the physical strength to keep making his mark as the defenders get meaner and better remains to be seen.
