Full Report from the Merc

Leicester City have been given a boost by their FA Cup rivals Stevenage Borough who admit: "We can't defend."

The two sides lock horns in the first-round clash at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday.

And City will be hoping to take advantage of their non-league opponents after the shock defeat against Rotherham in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy quarter-final on Tuesday.

Stevenage striker Steve Morison believes his team could perish if they play a containing game against Nigel Pearson's side.

The Blue Square Premier outfit have conceded 28 goals in 17 league games - with only five of their rivals conceding more.

And that is a statistic which is not lost on Morison, top scorer at Broadhall Way so far this season with nine goals.

He said: "We're not going to go there and try to nick a goal and sit there for 90 minutes because we can't defend in our league!"

Stevenage's saving grace, however, has been the 28 goals they have scored as they sit in ninth spot.

And if Stevenage go for it, that will be in marked contrast to City's recent League One visits of Northampton and Walsall, who packed their defence and both picked up a point.

Morison, 25, spent a month on trial at Leicester as a teenager before joining Northampton and said: "It's going to be a test for us, but we're going to go there and enjoy it - and see what happens.

"It's a great opportunity for us and especially those players who think they can play at a higher level.

"I think I can, so it's something for me to test myself against."

Morison, a Wembley winner with Stevenage in the FA Trophy, added: "When you play for a team at a higher level, you have players at that level around you so that makes you a better player.

"We're a good team and we haven't found anywhere near our best this year - and we know it - but we're still getting wins (eight in the league).

"We can go out there with no fear at all and, if we lose, people expect us to lose, and if we win, it's a giant-killing."

City will also have to be aware of the threat of St Kitts & Nevis international Calum Willock, whose two goals in a fourth qualifying-round replay win at Horsham helped set up the clash with City.

Willock has been pushing for a regular spot and said: "Not being in the team drove me on to work harder. I didn't moan and just wanted to prove the manager wrong and get back in the team."

If Saturday's tie ends in a draw, the replay will be at Stevenage on Tuesday, November 25 which would mean a re-arrangement of the home league game with Crewe.

this is disconcerting- I'm accustomed to having my FA cup hopes dashed in the freezing cold of January not the dampness of November- too depressing for words if we don't win

That's oldschool.

Don't you know that cup competitions are now officially deemed a distraction, and therefore we should get out of them as soon as possible?
