Cool, one final question :P do you shoot in RAW???

It's just I took my Dad's old camera - 40d EOS - to the cricket on Monday and took some snaps in RAW and was surprised how good they look.

I'll upload a few when I get the time.

Ocasionally yes. I have an 8GB SD card in my camera and i find that when shooting in RAW, i don't have as much room on the card to take many photos. I don't know how yours is set out but on mine on those settings i have a L, L, M, M, S, S, L & Raw and RAW.

The L etc just means Large, Medium etc. If all that makes sense. lol

I usually shoot in "L" so i can fit more shots on the card. I always take loads you see, usually multiples of the same thing in case one turns out crap.

If you want to go places like that you need to get to Isle of Lewis and Isle of Harris both really are stunningly beautiful and for someone like you there are some fantastic photo opportunities.

I'll be honest by saying this and make myself look like a pillock at the same time, but i have never heard of those two places. I shall do some research. Cheers for the info :)

Ah ok.

Yeah, RAW uses lots more memory. I was cropping a few of the photos and the amount of detail you capture in RAW is amazing, plus the amount of things you can do in CS5 with RAW images is staggering as well. I just hope Dad isn't expecting his camera back any time soon as I think i've found a new toy :P

Well I can say that there are some spectacular pictures taken, though i'd try and show one of mine which i took.

The picture was taken whilst I was driving back from Skeggy with some friends, I know its not very clever to drive and take a picture but I got really lucky in getting this photo without any real blur.

Steal it and make out like he must have left it somewhere. lol

It's his old spare so I don't think he'll miss it too much, but even if he does... TOUGH lol

The biggest problem will be commandeering his lenses, so your stealing option is looking favourite :P

I need to invest in a couple. I only use the standard 18-55mm lense that came with the camera. :(

No shame in that most people I tell of the place have never heard of it and I only have because a lot of my family live there. It's a little Island in the Western Isles of Scotland near Isle of Skye which is also beautiful. Main city of Lewis is Stornoway and of course Isle of Harris produces Harris Tweed (name gives it away a bit). It's a really quite remote Island in Scotland about 2 hours ferry ride away from the mainland but when you arrive you think it's a throwback to the 90's it's not very modern at all but when you actually get onto the highland roads the scenery you find is breathtaking.

Sounds like you need to be asking for some overtime young Mikey :P

Or, I guess you could go for a smash and grab raid at Jacob's

@ MikeyT I just cheked out some of your photos (which may I add are really quite something) and came across the one called Warmth of the Evening Sun, personally this photo looks astonishing, really love it, the colour and beauty is quite something. Could I ask, where was this picture taken?

On the Jessops Facebook page, there's a competition this week on recreating an album cover. Needs to be done by Friday when they'll post details on how to submit your entry (one per person). thumbsup.gif Think there's a £100 prize, but they may break it down into 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

A couple from Monday at Trent Bridge

Love the use of black and white in these, gives them a real timeless feel that obviously suits the subject.

I'm going to another Western isle next week, Islay. Hopefully get some good shots from there that I'll drop a link in here for.

Nice one. With what photo?

I remade Muse's Origin of Symmetry with straws and toothpicks. It's in one of the albums on the Jessops Facebook page. Nothing special in photo terms but judged on creativity and likeness. thumbsup.gifsanta.gif

Volunteers spent a day cleaning the city's former Belvoir Street lending library to get it ready for opening as a photographic gallery.

The first floor of the centre building is being transformed into the Leicester People's Photography Gallery, and will be open for photographers of all abilities to exhibit their work.

The gallery will be launched with an official opening next month.

On Saturday, about 20 volunteers helped with a clean-up of the building, organised by gallery manager Ian Davies.

The gallery will feature exhibitions by professional photographers as well as work by amateurs and community groups and schools.

One of the displays on show will be a collection of shots taken by Leicester Mercury photographers.

Anyone interested in displaying their work at the gallery can contact Ian by e-mailing him at
