Fox in a Box Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 Do you rekon he could put lcfc in a tardis and put us in the prem? Former Leicester City youth player Matt Smith was yesterday (Saturday) unveiled as the 11th Doctor Who. Matt represented the Foxes at both under 15 and 16 level before a cruel back injury ended his promising career. He then turned his attentions to acting - and after a string of minor roles he has landed one of the biggest parts in British television. City Academy Manager Jon Rudkin (pictured) has fond memories of his former pupil. He said: "Matt was a smashing young lad who could have had a big future in the game if it had not been for a back injury cutting his attempts to become a professional short when he was 16. "His attitude was always first class and his parents were very supportive. A lot of young lads have come through our Academy in the last 10 years but Matt is certainly one that stands out. He was a great kid to have around the place and we were all devastated for him when he had to pack it in. "But it's great to see that he has picked himself up and landed this amazing opportunity. Everyone at the club would certainly like to wish him all the best in his new role." Matt, 26, will hit the screens as the new Time Lord in 2010. He takes over from outgoing Doctor David Tennant.
