fox123 Posted 16 January 2009 Posted 16 January 2009 Link Joe Kinnear has revealed he has been offered a "very lucrative" deal to stay on as Newcastle manager past the end of the season. The former Wimbledon and Nottingham Forest boss initially arrived on a short-term deal following the resignation of Kevin Keegan in September and with owner Mike Ashley looking to sell the club. The sportswear tycoon has since taken the Magpies off the market and given Kinnear a contract until the end of the season. The 62-year-old has led Newcastle out of the bottom three but they are still involved in a relegation scrap and are only three points clear of Tottenham in 18th Kinnear told talkSPORT: "I know what my own future is. I'm just mulling over things in my head at the moment. I have been offered a very lucrative contract. "Mike Ashley, (managing director) Derek Llambias and I, we've sat down and talked about taking the club forward and about reinvesting in the club in the summer. "But I said to them that first and foremost, we have to work hard and establish ourselves as a Premier League side and get away from the relegation fight. "I really don't need any more distractions than that. What I suggested to the club was that we all sit down in the summer and look at each other and say what direction do we want to take the club in, refinancing it, letting players go and bringing in my own players. "I'll also see what my wife and family have to say about the situation of moving up here permanently."
Tevez Posted 16 January 2009 Posted 16 January 2009 Kinnear is doing alright, like his controversy. He'll turn a few heads if given a healthy transfer budget and rid of all the deadwood.
Corky Posted 16 January 2009 Posted 16 January 2009 He's going to be the Steve Walsh of management, getting a record amount of sendings-off, fines and personal hearings from the FA.
Joe. Posted 16 January 2009 Posted 16 January 2009 I actually quite like him if I'm honest. Seems to be doing a steady job at Newcastle so far so it wouldn't be any great shock to see him stay on permanently. That's when the troubles will begin though...
eye666 Posted 18 January 2009 Posted 18 January 2009 Wouldn't be surprised if they got relegated. They have a few good players but their defence is still pretty shoddy and their midfield is full of thugs and pensioners. Given has pretty much single handedly kept them a mid-table side for the past few years. When he leaves (which I imagine would be either this window or the summer) they'll be fudged. Hope they get relegated, if only because they have Joey Barton. willy puller.

Finnegan Posted 18 January 2009 Posted 18 January 2009 Don't understand the Joey Barton hype in the slightest. He's really not a good enough footballer to deserve the hype. He's just about midtable Prem quality, sure, but I'd not want him in my side enough to put up with the bullshit, frankly. He's never going to play for a top four side, even if he does sort himself out. He's below the likes of Gamst, Cahil, Bentley and co even in terms of the sort of talent band if you ask me.

Completly different sort of player to the ones you listed. he is more of a defensive midfielder. I agree he's not top four quality but the players you have compared him with are totally different alltogether. The only manager who could get the most out of him would be MON imo.
Finnegan Posted 18 January 2009 Posted 18 January 2009 Oh sure, I'm just sort of listing midfielders of a similar (imo superior) standard. Couldn't have reeled off a similar list of defensive midfielders off the top of my head. And I disagree that MON is probably the only manager who could do something with him, again I'm not necessarily willing to put up a list of those I think that would do well with the lad but I do feel we put O'Neill on a bit too much of a pedastal at times. I think O'Neill has more sense than to deal with him, personally.

You're right, their defence is a mess and has more holes than a cullinder. As for Joey Barton he's about as worthy of hero worship as one of the late Kray twins. I'd love em to go down.

Joey Barton did have ability at one point but im not sure if he just shone in a poor man city side at the time managed by Stuart Pearce.

Taylor seems to have droped down the pecking order with every season. Shame because I always thought taylor had a lot of potential. I don't know what Newcastle do to there players, think to much pressure from the fans.

Darkzzz_ Posted 19 January 2009 Posted 19 January 2009 I don't think Barton is that good, he is pretty average. I don't really care if I upset anyone for saying it either. There are a lot more players I would pick over him any day of the week. However.... In terms of passion and work rate, I would have him in my team, You can't knock him for that. He does give you a lot of work rate and often isn't praised enough by the media for this side of his game.
Tilley Posted 19 January 2009 Posted 19 January 2009 In terms of passion and work rate, I would have him in my team, You can't knock him for that. Agree. However, he is really starting to get on my nerves now, the bloke has zero self control. I liked he had been given a second chance after being in prison etc.. But he just seems to **** it up for himself all the time. He had that little thing with Gabby & then gobbed off at Jose Enrique on Saturday. Why don't he just shut up, get on with his job & show his appreciation for his second chance.
