Why is it that left-handed people are so opinionated?:whistle::P

Every other minority group has a voice, it's time we stood up for ourselves.

Cos the right side of there body is sexually frustrated :dunno:

It's a scientific fact that left-handed people know nothing about sexual frustration on any side of the body.

I didn't really think of saying that to Lise because she'd have probably shoved her bottle of WKD in my face (thus improving my looks  ), and spending a night in Casualty didn't appeal tbh.

 You are not ugly.

I would never bottle anyone, btw.

And you do, very vociferously.

Thanks

And I'm sure you wouldn't, but I didn't fancy taking the risk

I voted in that election which most people on this forum were unable to do. I voted for change I voted to remove the sectarian dogma that has held this country in the dark ages for 8 long years. I sure as hell didn't vote for a man to wave the color of his skin back at me. I don't believe he did and I truly hope that we have a new beginning.

I think it is wonderful that someone of an age where they could be expected to be cynical about the entire political process (especially in the States) is inspired enough to vote and hold hope for change.

I find the Queen of Hearts style adulation for a man who has done nothing to be a touch idiotic although I can appreciate the world breathing a sigh of relief at the departing of the Bush idiot.

I share everyone's hopes for this man to be a success - unfortunately the cynic in me is simply expecting a lot less.

He was elected because of his ability to express attractive ideas that gave hope to a nation that was uncharacteristicly low on confidence. Not because of the colour of his skin. He will be judged in history on his ability to bring about the change he has promised, not because of the colour of his skin. I don't think it is unreasonable to celebrate for this one fleeting moment that America, still segregated when Obama was born, has matured enough to elect black president. It is a fantastic story of how society can change for the better. I have no idea how anyone can think it is not worth commenting upon.

I know what you are saying but that is not entirely true.

It has proved problematic across the decades to mobilise "the black vote" - this man did, partially because of the colour of his skin.

Black people vote Democrat 95% of the time anyway.

Daggers wasn't referring to African Americans being an overwhelmingly-Democratic voting bloc, but rather about voter turnout, and he's right about the black vote being somewhat unpredictable when it comes to voter turnout. There was a surge in black voters this year due in large part to Obama's image (and excellent voter registration and get-out-the-vote campaigns by both the Obama team and Democratic groups). Black voters made up 11% of the electorate in 2004 compared to 13% in '08.

And it wasn't just black voters that came out in force for Obama. Despite an aging population, there were a hell of a lot of young and first-time voters, too. All the haters said Obama wasn't going to bring home to Latino vote, but did much better with them than Kerry. Obama also did better with Asians, Jews, Catholics, the wealthy... well, however you want to label voters, Obama did well. The only demograhic that Obama with which really didn't do all that well were gun-owning Evangelical Christian conservatives in the South. The Democratic Party has a diverse base of support and often, it's a tenuous alliance between many different demographic groups that tend to vote Democratic. This time, however, all the elements of the Democratic base really coalesced around Obama.

I think I am bored of the Obamamaniacs.

:appl:

Same here. People seem over-excited about the whole thing. I hope i'm wrong but I think he is just another politician (i.e lies, lies, lies). And as for him being black, I bet that the average poor black man in America is just as bad off as they were before. I don't think it will make any difference to anyone. The only difference wil be the outside package. He acts like a better man tha Bush but you can bet they are no different. The thing about Bush was he didn't care letting people know he didn't give a shit. Most other presidents act like they care and show otherwise with their actions. I'm sure the average person will still get shit on. I must stress I hope I'm wrong.

But this fawning is patronising in the extreme to that movement. The day a black man is elected without people having to make the point that he is black will be the day when that particular journey is complete.

Well put. If you look at America, a big percentage of the most succesful people are black. Sports stars, musicians, rappers, film stars etc. My biggest hero in 'popular entertainment' ever is Mohammad Ali. He has the words and the actions to show what a great man he is. An all round star. He was one of the first to stand up and show the world what a horrible place America was. In the last 20-40 years it is amazing how much that country has changed (although at the same time shocking at how racist it was). I was not shocked at all that a black man got the presidency because everywhere I have looked for the past 20 years I have seen black Americans idolized. World famous names. A few examples: Denzel, Jacko, Michael Jordan, Beyonce, Ali, the genius Primo and of course Del the Funky Homosapien! Why it is such a shock that people would vote for a black man is beyond me.

To be pedantic, a "disabled", actually.

Special Olympics is for athletes with learning disabilities.

And the passion and commitment many of them give to their chosen sport puts many "professionals" to shame.

Obama behaved like a jerk. Good job he was quick to admit as much, and apologise.
