The Reverend Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 Seeing as I am Welsh and one of King's biggest fans, I hardly think that is the case.Mattock is the biggest prospect for the club because he is so roundly appreciated within the football community over and above King. Just see which one raises the most money... I'm not saying you particularly - but in general. Mattock is 'so roundly appreciated within the football community' because he is English, and a left back. Mattock would raise the most money, because of the reasons i have just pointed out. Everyone knows you pay over the odds for English youngsters, let alone young English left backs. It's a strange phenomenon.
Diddsy Posted 15 February 2009 Posted 15 February 2009 Mattock was supposed to go to Villa in jan for 3mil which would have made sense but why the fook would a leicester born lad move to forest!
Corky Posted 15 February 2009 Posted 15 February 2009 Mattock was supposed to go to Villa in jan for 3mil which would have made sense but why the fook would a leicester born lad move to forest! Peter Shilton did. If Mattock feels he would benefit by playing for Forest, he will move there, simple as.
lcfc81 Posted 15 February 2009 Posted 15 February 2009 Think we need to leave him alone, he is young and will make mistakes but learning in L.1 from Berner and Powell will make him a far better player. I remember thinking Glen Johnson was over rated when he was at Chelsea but he has come good. Although I'll never have much respect for him after the story about him trying to steal a toilet seat!
The Reverend Posted 15 February 2009 Posted 15 February 2009 Agreed, just because he's young and got international honours it shouldn't mean that he should escape criticism. I couldn't believe my eyes when seconds after Pentney had come on, Mattock tried suicidally to win a goal kick off their attacker which rebounded right into the 6 yard box. At the best of times you should just clear to safety, never mind when you've got a young debutant in goal, yet to have his first touch of the ball. Mattock's been poor for the majority of the season. Berner and Powell have proved much safer options in that position. Bloody right. Mattock was supposed to go to Villa in jan for 3mil which would have made sense but why the fook would a leicester born lad move to forest! All they care about is money. I doubt he's a Leicester fan anyway - probably a Manu or Liverpool fan as a kid. Peter Shilton did.If Mattock feels he would benefit by playing for Forest, he will move there, simple as. Exactly. I'm not criticising him for moving for money- because at the end of the day you have to look after number 1. He's about 18 years old. What happens if he gets put out of the game due to injury? You never know.
craigadams22 Posted 15 February 2009 Posted 15 February 2009 We need to keep our best players, And for me Joe Mattock is one of them. We don't want to be like Coventry City FC do we and sell off our best players ? Regards Cubbio2009

Just see which one raises the most money... A year ago there'd have been no contest but now I don't know. Those 12 goals in two thirds of a season are exceptional for any midfielder as is the fact that King has played the full 90 minutes of every League match this season with the team collecting an enormous number of points. Yes, Mattock was once the subject of a substantial bid. But times change. King's problem is that he competes in an area where there's lots of competiton while, on the other hand, there is great demand for specialist left-backs like Mattock. However, in the last transfer window the word I've had is that City only had enquiries from Championship teams asking after Howard. That information might be mistaken of course and I'm sure that Mattock would still command interest were he to be made available. But whether he'd draw more interest than King is debateable. Just like Mattock, King is highly regarded within the football community.

But Mattock didn't have much chance to grow his reputation prior to the window due to injury & then not initially getting his place back, would have needed to be consistent for most of the first half of the season to lure bids of interest to the club and himself
