Tommeh Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Sure some of you have had some great times playing so..... I've had many great years playing at very decent levels in the Leics league but my best was last season by a country mile for Quorn u/18's. We got together all the lads who'd been great mates at school for many years plus a couple others who remained from the season previous. We had no manager as such just one lad who sorted subs and spoke up when things wenrt right (which was rare) the team pretty much picked itself with very capable 2 lads happy to play from the bench. We never trained throughout the season and really didn't need to, just let the ball do the work all season. We won the league by 4 points and only conceded 17 all season I think. We also won the league cup on the presentation day in the most epic game ever which we were loosing 4-2 and down to 9 men with about 5 minutes to go, went got 1, equaliser with the last kick then won 5-4 aet, never have I been so dead, delighted and emotional after a game. Only bad part of the season was losing the county cup final 3-0 when we just didnt turn up at all. By far the best team I've played in and personally my best season to date. Now yours..
DB11 Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Under 10s. I was in goal and made some cracking saves. We didn't win a game all season but still
welck12 Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Probarly the last season i played, would have been under 18 level. We came bottom of the league, winning 1 game all season. But we won the cup, even though we went at least 3 goals down in every single round before we turned the game around. We seemed to have the mentality that we couldnt start playing properly until they had scored a couple. We beat the league runners up 6-4 in the final after being 4-1 down at the half.
Uncle Albert Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Quorn 18's in your year was a shit standard of football though Tom, compared to my year anyway. Alot different, your Quorn team would get a spanking off the Sileby Juniors team from 06/07. Whole season unbeaten. All strikers hitting 20+. We didnt win anything because in our age we have the like's of Blaby, Sorrel, Alexton, Cosby, Nirvana and Highfields who are class. Yea you done well but if that team was in our age you wouldnt of won ote.
Tevez Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 100% with Loft (suprise suprise) but it's very true. In our league you couldn't beat a team 9-0 or whatever (vs Queniborugh) if you beat bottom of the league then it was a good result for us. I can remember going 16 Unbeaten and flying in the league only to come 4th with 5 games to go. But still, everyone stuck to together since Under 8's and a few members can back me up on this. The local rivalrys was awesome, buzzing when we played Quorn. Even better when we battled with Beaumont Town every game was a bloodbath. It was pride of your team when you walked into School on the Monday and to discuss results. We got put in Div 1 in our last season yet the Premier contained the likes of some players who are hitting East Midlands Counties League (Barrow, Kirby etc) and some even playing Conference North. One lad is even giving the English game to the Yanks. We played Blaby back in Under 12's and we beat them on penalties. Big boys in Division 1 and A group of lads doing them on penalties. Players repuatation got you that league Tom, you can't deny that. Just a close group of mates for 8 years and they will be the best Footballing years in my life. Junior/Youth Football is.
lildave3 Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Not very succesful me, cup runners up at Whitwick one year, that team folded, joined Ibstock, strolled to League win, that team folded.
Samilktray Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Winning a game with Kirby was monumental at the time.
lildave3 Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Winning a game with Kirby was monumental at the time. It's getting back to that now. Scoring is getting a pretty big deal if i'm honest.
Samilktray Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 It's getting back to that now. Scoring is getting a pretty big deal if i'm honest. Scoring was always a problem for them when I was there. So was defending... and playing well.
Bert Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Never played Sunday League football until I played mens league 3 years back. Didn't start playing for a proper side until I was 17. (Saturdays)

Bert Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 To be fair to Tom, he's started a decent thread and got slated straightaway! You can only play what's in front of you people.
Uncle Albert Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 We are not having a go at Tom personally, we are simply saying that his Quorn side would find it very hard indeed to win anything in our age gap as the standard of football is at a much higher level.
Simi Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Defintley my years with Quenni were my best. Played for Syston all my life until I was 12, captained them in my last season there and picked up a couple of awards at the end of the season. The season before I left, Syston broke off into two teams, one forming as Quenni. I stayed at Syston despite most of mates leaving for Quenni. But then the next season I left to join them. Played right back and never scored but really enjoyed it. Three successive promotions and a County Cup Semi. Highlight was defintley Remi our right winger scoring a golden goal winner in the County Cup against Nirvana our big rivals. Great times.

It's ok mate we'll agree to disagree. I thought what we achieved last season was remarkable, so do the lads from our side who now play for Aths. There were some very good teams in our league (Kingsway and Wigston Utd, to name a couple.) I've never paid much attention to your age level and I'm sure you never watched us last season so any debate is very pointless.
Uncle Albert Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Yes. I personally think he is one of the best finishers around now for Aths anyway, quality player. Judging by your Facey your 2 years older than me, know a lot of lads that age and there were some quality teams around for your age over the years, certainly alot more impressive players in my opinion.
Bert Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 I wish I'd have got in to youth football. I'd be a lot better than I am now.
Uncle Albert Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 I wish I'd have got in to youth football. I'd be a lot better than I am now. I enjoyed youth football but men's football has certainly made me a much better player, physically stronger and fitter aswell. Men's football is quality but I do miss the Sileby Junior days. Great times.

You are only a year older than Tom in a footballing sense though pal, two years above me and you at football is one of the best footballing years around. Some amazing players in that year.
