jimmer Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 As much as it pains me to say, Ash is right. Adams took us to the Premier League with a fairly patchwork side. Pearson inherited a squad that was supposed to have a number of "good-for-the-Championship" players, an incredibly stable defence and two strikers well and truly capable of performing at League One level.I'm thankful for what he's done but he's by no means a legend and has a massive, MASSIVE job still to do to win the league and an unfathomably greater one to turn us into a good Championship outfit. I'm thrilled with his job so far and I'm glad we have him, don't get me wrong - but the jury's still out as to how great he's going to be here. Ok perhaps I was getting a little carried away with the "legend" status but it just gets my back up when reading threads like this. Think he's done very well and like you said it'll be interesting to see what happens next season if we get promotion. I would love to see him have a crack at the championship, shaky end to the season or not. Mickey Adams is very highly regarded around the Leicester camp still. He did a great job. But I do believe he inherited a much more capable squad for the task ahead, whereas Pearson didn't. Last season is without a doubt the worst Leicester team (if that's what you can call it) I have ever seen.
Finnegan Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 I really don't know how you can think Pearson didn't take over a side decent enough to do well in League One. Amongst our regular players so far this season are: Howard, King, Fryatt, Oakley, Henderson, Mattock (sort of) and Gradel all of which Pearso had already. He's reinforced a stable defence and brought in Dyer and a couple of good loanees but the driving force of our attack this season has been in players already at Pearson's disposal. Adams was dealing with a club in absolute financial turmoil in a higher league.
ASH17LCFC Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 I'm glad you agree with me Finns, Pearson should be sacked after yesterdays game. Who do you want next ? I wouldn't mind someone like Paul Lambert.

Edmund Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 There is some utter tosh being written in this thread. Why is Pearson being compared to Mickey adams? What started off as a poor joke has turned into some people showing there true colours and are actually calling for Nigels head. The first manager to be sacked whilst top of the league? :giggle:
skinnydipper Posted 5 April 2009 Author Posted 5 April 2009 1. Pearson is not a legend. To say he is on the back of one season of being promoted (because we will be ) is ridiculous 2. On the positive side he and his backroom staff generally have an eye for a good player and have the respect of the big club managers that they will be able to develop their up and coming players. I also think that Pearson's side have at times played some of the most attractive football seen from our team for a long time. 3. However Pearson's achievements should be viewed in the context that we should be doing well. We didn't sell any players as a result of being relegated and have added to the squad with loans and purchases. But save for the centre back position the squad still looks thin. Surely Weso and Psssh could have been decent squad players at this level and Blackpool seem to be getting the best out of Campbell when we have decided to keep Dickov and Hayles as back up. 4. The recent form has been poor and the recent run including 6 draws in 7 home games is more than a blip. If current form continues to the end of the season Pearson will be given less time in the Championship should we get off to a shaky start. 5. If Mandaric provides reasonable transfer funds in the close season and Mandaric's expectation is to return to the Premiership at the end of next season ( i.e the three year plan remains intact ) then Pearson's achievements in League One will count for nothing. If we are comfortably in the bottom half of the Championship at Christmas (but not necessarily in the bottom 3 ) Pearson's job will be at risk 6. If we don't go up this season Pearson will be sacked. 7. Barring a disaster in the Championship Mandaric would be foolish to sack him for the obvious reasons (stability, has ability to be successful, who would do a better job )
l444ry Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 Pearson has worked a minor miracle with a pretty ordinary squad and no strength in depth. Don't go blaming him now because some went overboard when the team was winning. Just let him get the job done and start the massive team building that will be required for next season.

I'm confident we'll go up automatically, but it feels strange to be going up thinking we need a massive rebuilding of the team. It really emphasises the size of the job at Leicester and how well Pearson's done.

Carlos9 Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 If so their is a 'massive' rebuild of the squad, they will need time to gel together so we could see ourselves going straight back down. Every season we change players all over the pitch, it dont get us no where. Like some one said above we have alot of players playing for us now who did last season and they do seem to play well together when they feel like it. I reckon just afew additions to the squad would keep us up. Take things steady is the key to getting to the premiership. Instead of buying loads of players who dont know each other and dont know how each other play etc. Why buy loads of average players? Lets buy afew players who are alot better than the ones who need replaceing and we will stay up! .. If we go up that is.
skinnydipper Posted 5 April 2009 Author Posted 5 April 2009 Hume? Stearman? McAuley? Oh yeah I could have sworn I put an "M" in front of "any" But of those I think Hume is the only one we've particularly missed
Dan Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 Oh yeah I could have sworn I put an "M" in front of "any" But of those I think Hume is the only one we've particularly missed To be fair the front 2 have done a great job, but between them they won't get half the goals they have this year due to their lack of pace, thats where we will miss Hume.
Lillehamring Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Luckily you've already been found out, and your still here!!
Darkzzz_ Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Damn it, I knew Mandaric shouldn't have sacked Holloway, we would have had this title wrapped up at xmas had he still been here. Pearson has done nothing but ruin our club and drag it further and further down the table, we will be lucky if we survive relegation this season, League two football next season has surely blown the 3 year plan away. Thanks Nigel, you have been so crap, I hate you so much, you have caused me so much misery and have forced me to do this rant. Holloway 4 eva... innit!

craigadams22 Posted 6 April 2009 Posted 6 April 2009 Nigel Pearson has been a good manager for Leicester City this season, Just look at what he's done for us. Got us to the top of League One & did us proud via a 23 match unbeaten run & I am hoping he will stay at the club for a years yet.. Kind Regards Craig A

Adams was dealing with a club in absolute financial turmoil in a higher league. but the other way of looking at it is that NP inherited a side that, on paper, should have been doing all right in the championship - but they weren't and none of the managers we had last season got them anywhere close to performing... pearson has not only got players that appeared to not give a shit to play well, but at a level where it must be much hard to inspire players that seemed to think they were too good for the championship. in my mind, the real strength that i have seen from pearson is that he has brought in the right players at the right time, it could have been very easy to go and piss a load of money in january with no certainty of it improving the squad, but he has stuck with the players he had and is (by the skin of his teeth) just about getting away with it. as a result, if and when we do go up he will be in a very strong position personally and financially to enhance the squad... something i believe he will do very succesfully, unlike many of his predeccesors. i don't remember which players Adams brought in, but pearson and his staff seem to be doing a very MON-like job of sourcing players that make a difference rather than the endless list of failures we have witnessed before his tenure. for anyone suggesting replacing him, think of the alternatives we were threatened with when we got pearson, divide that by two and you'll have our likely next boss....
