Matt Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 Joe Royle is quitting as Oldham boss next week after a brief nine game spell at the League One outfit. The veteran boss held talks over extending his stay but the two parties have decided to go their separate ways. Royle rejoined Oldham for a second stint in March with high hopes of guiding them into the play-offs. But has he failed to win any of his matches in charge and his final game will be Saturday’s clash with Walsall. In his time at the club Royle has made huge cost savings with Lee Hughes being sent out on loan to Blackpool and Steve Kabba and Andy Liddell also being moved on. I was going to ask why, but then I read he hasn't got them a win in all of his 9 games in charge, pretty bad, and this is another person linked with a managerial spot here last summer was he not?! Oldham looked pretty good at the start of the season, just before midway through the season they really did take a turn for the worse.
Hitesh Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 I saw this earlier on at the pub and thought it was quite funny. It was never going to last was it!
J.Lisemore Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 As soon as Lee Hughes left, they haven't been the same team. Even so, very poor record and not suprised their getting rid.
Bert Posted 28 April 2009 Posted 28 April 2009 Just goes to show how key a good strong team spirit with a decent backroom staff is. They were flying at one point this season and looked a half decent bet to go up, then things start falling apart, so does the team.
Ultra Posted 29 April 2009 Posted 29 April 2009 That night out they had, when the manager allegedly got into a fight with players, really screwed up their season. They've never been the same since. Apparently Dave Penney is lined up to take over.

Will be ineteresting to see what their better players do, I know Chris Tylor has recently sgned a new deal but does that really mean anything ?
Matt Posted 30 April 2009 Author Posted 30 April 2009 Dave Penney confirmed. DAVE Penney is to quit as Darlington manager and will today be appointed as Oldham Athletic's new boss.He is to end his two-and-a-half year reign at The Northern Echo Darlington Arena to take charge of the League One side.
Darkzzz_ Posted 30 April 2009 Posted 30 April 2009 He has lost it. I think he will suit an upstairs job.
Cobbo Posted 30 April 2009 Posted 30 April 2009 Mr Scow will want to follow Oldham closely next year. Then next time we need a manager - he will want Penney Obsessed I tells you, obsessed!
