Dream holiday.

interesting to see sweden picked by a few people.... kinda curious to know why.

i haven't seen much of it, but i fell in love with gøteborg.

however, as far as scenery is concerned, it is rather boring - unless you like swamps and lakes... certainly, from a landscape POV, norway is the most beautiful scandinavian country, if not one of the worlds.... and people wise i understand that kobenhavn totally rules....

Everywhere that I have been in Scandanavia has been superb, but I agree on Norway scenery, it is just unparallelled in the northern hemisphere in my view. I'd take Geiranger over the Rockies any day. Ever since I went there I have this idea of getting a log cabin as a 2nd home one day somewhere near Balstrand. :D

How is going Zante funny?

It's not going to Zante, I think James finds the concept of Zante as a DREAM holiday a bit odd. Dream holiday implies that it's the one place you'd go if money and time wasn't an object. There are so many incredible places in the world that maybe James thought it a bit odd that, of all places, you'd choose to go to Zante if you had limitless money and time

Has anyone comically said Disney Land yet? DB11?

As for myself, I've not really given it much thought in all fairness. I've already seen a few places as a young lad with a father working for a huge telecoms firm prior to the bursting of the old bubble in 2001. Australia being the biggy (covered most of the big cities - nearly six weeks there). Hawaii (twice, three islands total). California (twice). Dubai. Did a lot of air miles 2000/2001 that's for sure.

My next intended destinations are - in no particular order - Iceland, New Zealand, Chile, Scandinavia.

I don't really have a dream holiday in mind, I'd rather see lots of stuff. A few months off with unlimited budget to cover as much ground as possible would be most appreciated.

Please please go buy the rough guide to Chile and DO IT! I went last year and it is just the most unbelievable country. The people are so friendly and welcoming, the food is usually pretty good. Most of all, the scenery. This will hurt Valeranga to read, but it's the only country I have visited that surpasses Norway in beauty (of the landscape, norway still wins on the beauties).

For the past 3 years I have done a city break in scandanavia every august bank holiday and it has been a real experience.

I'm sure it's not a bad place, but DREAM holiday destination? Seriously.
i'd suspect that people are amused by it as it isn't especially aspirational - the 'dream' element to most people, i guess, is a place or experience that they are probably never going to experience.

zante, you see, is pretty attainable....

like with me and italy, these days it's an easy and affordable place to visit, i just don't have any money so it is a dream holiday, tho i imagine for a lot on here it is rather a ordinary experience.

of course, if your dream destination is somewhere you can visit more often, it makes you a very lucky man...

All of these posts are very good summaries of my thoughts on the matter. Thank you all.

In other news I am about to book a trekking holiday in the Atlas Mountains for September this year, including a climb of Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa. Training for Kilimanjaro!

I'm going Zante 13th July. To me going away with my best mates for a week and all being together before some go Uni. That to me is a dream! Sorry I'm not going over the hills of Georgia for the summer!

No need to apologise. I spent a week in San Antonio in the same circumstances back in 2000. Absolute shit hole but a ****ing brilliant holiday nevertheless.

The whole thing about a dream holiday for me is that I wont be doing it either!! Its a dream... unless my financial situation changes very dramatically in the next few years (very unlikely) then Ill never get to any of the places I mentioned!

Im taking the kids to a cheapo week in spain this year and its the 1st real holiday weve had for years, so Im bloody chuffed to bits. Of course the pompous gits at work are all pouring scorn on where were going while they jet of too exotic places but to us this is massive! I hope you enjoy yours as much as we hope to enjoy ours! I might be going to the Blackpool of Spain and given the choice theres 1000's of places Id rather go to but we are all determined to enjoy every sodding minute of it!

PS Ive just remembered another one I dream of............ ranch holiday in Montana with my girls, doing a cattle drive! (Hubby is allergic to horses so he'll have to stay at home and look after the dog lol

Val I love you, I had that website on my bookmarks in my last job and lost it - it's really hard to find on google. Previously I've found some great little fjordside places on there for well under £100k

glad to help - before we decided on oslo, we were going to move to volda, we looked at a 3 bed house in 5 acres, with a small barn, a boat house (the grounds went down to the fjord).... asking price? £26K :/

I would love to go over and see some of my extended family in North Dakota at some point in the future. Haven't seen them since I was about 10/11 so I'd love to meet up again.

Anyone ever been Hong Kong? I'm looking forward to visiting later this year.

I'm going there in just over three weeks time. Really looking forward to it!

In case Kokopops reads this, we are flying with Virgin.

Yeah for chinese new year it was really good. Couldn't spend more than about 4-5 days there as you might struggle to find things to do.
