Jon the Hat Posted 22 May 2009 Posted 22 May 2009 Your best chance will be with the bank you are with. But unless you have been paying money in for a while or are a student you may struggle.

Definatley ask the bank you pay your salary into then. Natwest have overdrafts with no time limits so I think they base it on your income rather than any specific time to pay it back. You will probably need to give them a reason why you need the flexibility rather than a loan, if only to stop them trying to sell you a loan you do not want.
Zingari Posted 22 May 2009 Posted 22 May 2009 there you go http://www.bbc.co.uk/entertainment/bankofm...uttheshow.shtml
Monk Posted 22 May 2009 Posted 22 May 2009 Natwest and RBS are good with overdrafts - just ring them up and make sure you specify 1- why you need it 2- why that amount 3 - how you plan to pay it back. 4 - when you plan to pay it back/how long you will need the facility for If you just blindly ask for an overdraft without having answers to those questions then the answer will be no. And if they still say no you should say that you really value being a customer and you don't want to be forced to take your business elsewhere. The other way to do it with Natwest, if you can afford it is to pay a few quid a month for their premium account, then you'll definitely get it, and at a preferential rate.

Tubes Posted 22 May 2009 Author Posted 22 May 2009 Well, that was easy. Just rang up and they offered me a Current account with an overdraft up to £1000 no questions asked. Used my sensible head for once though and asked for a £400 one instead, I dont know why I didnt just ring up in the first place. Thanks for the advice.

Seems my involvement did the trick then - I thought it would take longer, my influence must be greater than even I thought it would be. My invoice for Financial Services is in the post. (You'll need that overdraft when you get the bill )

Monk Posted 22 May 2009 Posted 22 May 2009 It surprised me, at any rate. Aren't banks supposed to be prudent at the moment. Pfft lending to people like Tubes!

Edmund Posted 22 May 2009 Posted 22 May 2009 Or you could just sign up to a college course, show the bank the letter and get a student account with interest free overdraft. Then cancel the course and voila.
