Could well of been that mate. I should take more of an interest in it really, my granddad has passed away so i guess it makes it more important that i do find out about it!

Sad to hear that. I know a lot of WWII historians around these parts rate the efforts of the Leicestershire regiment highly. No nonsense dudes jumping in parachute over an occupied country. :appl:

Live in Cornwall and Leicester played two friendlies, two seasons on the trot in Penzance. After the games, I went on the pitch and chatted to the players - Neil Lennon and Pontus Kamark stick out immediately!

The 2nd game was just after we had won the Worthington Cup and i got to lift that after the game as well! Top blokes and fell in love with LCFC from that.

Aberdeen.

Started Secondary school and everyone there supported an English side as well as a Scottish side. (My main team Aberdeen obviously!) Chose Leicester as family live there. Auntie, who is originally from Aberdeen and my Uncle, originally from Orkney, moved down in the sixties for work reasons and have stayed there ever since, all my cousins born there.

Only been to one match and that was at Filbert Street against Man U, hoping to get down next season to the Walkers, hopefully the Newcastle game!

I have 100% respect for everybody who doesn't live/born in Leicester and supports City. I have even greater respect for their parents/family members.

It's a shame that there weren't more people around like that in Leicester, most of the young generation support Manure, Liverpool and Arsenal

In a way, that makes no sense.

Having respect for someone who doesn't live in Leicester but supports Leicester, then moaning that people support 'the big four' :P

Dad was Leicester born and bred, my great uncle supported LCFC since the 1920's and took me to my first football match at Filbert Street sometime in the early/mid sixties. I also married a Leicester girl and still have relatives in the city. My mum was from Dunfermline so I have one english and one scottish team to support. My eldest daugther lives in the west Midlands so that is another incentive/opportunity to get down to the midlands during the season.

My dad has always supported Leicester so started taking me when i was young, now im hooked. He says they were the biggest local team to us when he was growing up.

Unlike the other teams most of our fans will be from leicestershire or have a historic links to leicestershire or leicester and the reason for that is in the name of the club. I.e Leicester CITY football club. The emphasis on CITY means that those who follow LCFC will have some Loyalty towards the city of Leicester. A liverpool fan does not need to have any loyalty to Liverpool City, he can support Liverpool football club and still be loyal to his own city. Because Liverpool Football Club is not Liverpool CITIES Football Club.

If you travel around the country and ask people who they support you will find that most people will support either a local team, which will have the word city/ county/ town in its name or a team that does not have the word City, Town or County in its name. That is why Leicester wanted to change its name to Leicester Fosse Football Club. So that it could increase its fan base.

Rearly will you find a leicester city supported who lives in another city, with out any links to Leicester or Leicestershire. But you will find Liverpool, Man U, West Brom and even Forest.

Infact any football club whos name does not define/ tie that club to an area I.e a city, etc will appeal to a much bigger potential fan base, than one with a name that restrict the fan base.

well done to those of you who support Leicester from afar... I can't help but notice, however, that "season ticket snobbery" rears it's ugly head once again...

Some people can't have season tickets for other reasons than money or being a shit fan...

Can't make midweek games as i have to work - Therefore with the increased amount of Championship games going on in midweek due to TV, a season ticket would be impractical...

That's my excuse and i'm sticking to it...

Tirade over...

i live in rugby & have been a season ticket holder for 26 years my grandad was born in leicester & took me in the bloomfield days needless to say i was hooked that was after my dad had took me to see covscum get hammered at home by liverpool 4-0 so my hatred for them is immense it would surprise you that living in rugby there would be more covscum than leicester fans but we probably outdo them by by about 2 to 1 there is a massive leicester following here & my lad comes up from luton to go to all home games & we both go a lot of away games & wear our shirts with great pride in our respective towns :scarf: :scarf:

Lived in Leicestershire for 22 years (Market Bosworth to be exact) Lived in N*ttingham for just over 2 years and as if things couldn't get worse, I now live in Leeds. Still go to City games when I can though and follow them every day. Wouldn't consider any other team, don't know any real football club supporter that would change teams to be honest!

...But surely every football club's name does that? Liverpool FC as a name still specifically locates the club in Liverpool, doesn't it?

does anybody honestly believe that a person would pick a team because of the name?

If you travel around the country and ask people who they support you will find that most people will support either a local team, which will have the word city/ county/ town in its name or a team that does not have the word City, Town or County in its name.

this is just a statement of the obvious - most local teams are city/town etc so it is no surprise that if you support your local team that applies (unless you live in devon), and most people who don't support their local team support clubs without city or town in, because they tend to support the best teams which COINCIDENTALLY do not have city or town (ie liverpool, man u, chelsea and arsenal),

to suggest that people support man u because their name

does not define/ tie that club to an area
is laughable. if it had been man city and not man u that were the best team in britain, do you think that people would say "oh, i'm not going to support man city, the best team in the world, because, having the word city in the name associates them with the city of manchester - darn, if only they'd been called manchester argyle, or some other non-specific name"

if you are brought up in nottinghamshire are you more likely to support notts county than forest, just for geographical reasons, of course not

and as for:

Rearly will you find a leicester city supported who lives in another city, with out any links to Leicester or Leicestershire. But you will find Liverpool, Man U, West Brom and even Forest.

true, perhaps about city, but again, surely people not from manchester and liverpool support those teams cause they are good to watch and support - as for forest and westbrom, according to this source we have more fans than them :dunno:

Massive Club :D

...Bit surprised to see Sheff Weds. below Southampton and Norwich  Oh well, it's all lies, damn lies and statistics I suppose...

Why dont we have the fan base of other clubs and I dont mean fans that go to the matches, by fan base I mean fans that have an intereast in the club. when you undersdtand that, ask.

Why does a team like leicester that has more history than most clubs and has been in top flight football untill this seasonv once, not have the fan base/ supporters or followers that some othe clubs have,

Why does Man city not have the fan base of Man U, Whay are man city fans linked to the city, why are man U fans not, why when I travel and ask people who they support, if it not a local team it will be a team without city etc in the name.

If a kid does not have a connection to a club, he will pick a club because he hears the name a lot, or he likes the name, Rovers, Spurs, Man U, are all names that conjure up imaiges of football, Like Roy of the Rovers

did you not click on the link? i'd say having the 12th most supporters in england would suggest a fan base much great than would be expected, considering the size of leicester and the amount (lack) of success we have had (norwich, m'boro and forest have all done better than us in europe, yet have fewer fans)

Why does Man city not have the fan base of Man U, Whay are man city fans linked to the city, why are man U fans not,

um, because man u are way way better than man city and receive way more media coverage.

are man city fans 'linked to the city' anymore than man u fans?, just because a lot of people around the world follow man u, doesn't mean no one in manchester follows them

why when I travel and ask people who they support, if it not a local team it will be a team without city etc in the name.

i'm guessing most of these people you talk to answer man u, liverpool, arsenal, chelsea, everton, newcastle united or spurs - rather than burton albion, crewe alexander or hereford united...it really is just a coincidence - .

If a kid does not have a connection to a club, he will pick a club because he hears the name a lot, or he likes the name, Rovers, Spurs, Man U, are all names that conjure up imaiges of football, Like Roy of the Rovers

yet i bet most blackburn rovers fans are from blackborn, i associate blackburn very much with that city, same with newcastle - a united - possibly one of the teams most associated with the city and people they are based in

I obviously did some pretty bad things in a past life!! No, redundancy and stuff in the recession sort of forced my hand on that front, we all got to work right. Will still be down for games and that, and hopefully move back down there in the future
