Kilworthfox Posted 8 July 2009 Posted 8 July 2009 sorry to be a critic, because I enjoy your posts. Im not having a go at you but...., Wellens is a playmaker in the Steve Thompson/Gary Macalister role were as Izzet was a box to box goal scoring midfielder. Wellens will have a number of assists next season but will never score as many as Izzet did on a regular basis. Im excited by Wellens as I dont think we've had a player like him for a number of years. Gradel is a wing player who likes to attack with skill and pace, King is a defensive midfield player with an eye for goal. N'Guessan is a winger/second striker with pace and skill. Ricky Hill was a playmaker like Wellens. By the time Hill arrived at city he was plauged by injury problems and his apperences were great but limited (ooh ah Ricky Hill say oh ah Ricky Hill). He played centre midfield and his best days were behined him when he came to city, Danny is young and has his best days ahead of him. Didn't I get you with My spoof "I'm off to support Derby thread"? The comparisons may be a little out! The Gradel one is not a comparison, I am saying that in my opinion they are in the same boat that they both have the skill but need to become more consistant! The Ricky Hill one was a joke Honestly in 2 seasons maybe less, Gradel, King & hopefully N'Guessan will all be good Championship players or better Clem is still doing physio work, and has just started jogging (No, not right now, but you know what I mean) Bit late isn't it?

Very entertaining keep it up mate. Anything about DCFC gets my goat (should that be sheep?) your Derby comments just hit a nerve.
lildave3 Posted 8 July 2009 Posted 8 July 2009 Clem is still doing physio work, and has just started jogging (No, not right now, but you know what I mean) I don't care about Clemence tbh. Perfectly happy with King, Oakley and Wellens.

Munzie Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 While I hope you are right and we are a solid midfield unit, I have reservations most of our players, not just in midfield.King & Oakley both went missing in league 1 last season on occasions when the going got tough. If Oakley was having an off day King never stepped up to my recollection. I am not hammering the lad, I have seen enough football to know not to ask such a player to do the business week in week out. Oakley IMO needs to be much more consistent or be sold. Wellens looks to be the best that we have at the moment, a playmaker in the Izzet mould will go down very well lets see him do the business in a blue shirt first Dyer has pace, however no clue how to use it. If he adapts his game at all, from being anything other than 100% direct then he is terrible. Gradel is very much like King, but as I say for there is definite talent in them both. No comments on N'Guessan as I know nothing of him, but lets not base all hopes that he will be the new Ricky Hill Clemence was a steady Premiership footballer who was never exciting but did a job. Since he has moved to us he has had some injuries and has played on as we know, I hope he can recapture his past good play, but it does not look too good does it? In my opinion there is far too much optimism on this fans board. I don't know if it is because we won the division last season or because of the Mercury "Pravda" style Mandaric headline grabbing irresponsible journalism? The facts are that we did win the division comfortably last season, but against who? Every week we met a much lower class opposition than ourselves. Next seasons Championship will be a lot more of a challenge than the majority of members seem to think it will be from the posts that get put on here. I think there is a distinct lack of respect for other Championship sides and their players. Lets have it right! No one is talking about Leicester City other than us fans. What are the odds on us A) being promoted and B) being relegated? Before the comebacks start about that possibly being a good thing, I do see both sides of the coin on that issue. In my supporters mind, expect the minimum & the rest can be a bonus, expect a lot and there could be a big fall to be had "IF" we don't win a game in the first 6 - 8 games. A great summary Our midfield options are by no means the polished article but I do feel a hell of a lot more comfortable with our potential line-up than I have done over the last few seasons. Our season in league one will have given our younger players a taste of what's to come. As you say, next season will be another step up. A season of playing alongside each other plus the introduction of the experience and talent that Wellens surely brings, I see no reason why our midfield can't be something to be proud of. That said, I agree also with your comment surrounding optimism. It's to be expected in a way, what with new signings, pre-season matches about to kick off, and the memory of our league one success - still impressive to bounce back straight away. I am optimistic that we'll have a solid year in the Championship. Staying away from any relegation dog-fight, and finishing anywhere from mid-table up will make me happy. More importantly, seeing players play for their shirt. Can't wait.

Sly Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Stephen Clemence is our club captain but we've not heard a dickie bird about his current squad status for donkeys. Anyone got any idea on when /if he'll be back? I thought we might see him in pre-season at some point.
DB11 Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Is he? I always thought it was Clemence. Ah well - learn something new every day!
Vlad The Impaler Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 He won't play again me thinks. Shame cus i think he would of probably come good He said he would be fit for the start of training and everything this year a while back in the mercury but haven't heard/seen anything so i'm assuming he's not coming back. Ah well, still have Oakley, King, Wellens, Verma, Ajderevic and Weso.
jonno24 Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 When he is fit im sure he will pose a problem for pearson he is on his day a championship/premier league player if he can stay fit and play like he did a few years back he will be a welcome addition to the squad
Daggers Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Stephen Clemance is our club captain but we've not heard a dickie bird about his current squad status for donkeys.Anyone got any idea on when /if he'll be back? I thought we might see him in pre-season at some point. Great thread.
