TrickyTrev Posted 28 July 2009 Posted 28 July 2009 "We recently announced the launch of a new ESPN channel in the UK to begin airing on 3rd August. Along with Barclays Premier League matches and the best of international sport, the channel will offer Live American sports which are currently available on ESPN America including Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League and NCAA sports - both in standard and high definition. While we are not able to provide specific scheduling details at this time, this information and other updates will be released shortly here. Thank you for your patience as we evolve our sports offering for the UK market. " from the ESPN website Presumably that means Sky are keeping the NFL rights.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 28 July 2009 Posted 28 July 2009 Presumably that means Sky are keeping the NFL rights. I could be wrong, but I'm sure when I checked the ESPN listings they were showing games too - and when you think all Sky where doing was showing another broadcasters feed (which included ESPN didn't it?) I would suggest that ESPN would be in the box seat. I wouldn't be suprised to see both channels showing some form of NFL action. (whoop!) I'm a tad disapointed though - no free ESPN on my Sky here. To think I almost signed up Setanta when I realised they were showing NHL. I think ESPN might actually get a subscription from me.
AmericanScott Posted 28 July 2009 Posted 28 July 2009 When i was back in NY last month, the only channel i watched was ESPN. Sportscenter (equivelant to SSN) is the best sports news program i've ever watched.

To think I almost signed up Setanta when I realised they were showing NHL. I think ESPN might actually get a subscription from me. News Corporation owns Fox in the U.S., so I'm guessing Sky showed games that were aired live on Fox. Fox broadcasts weekend afternoon games between games in the NFC or inter-conference games where the NFC team is away. ESPN over here shows Monday Night Football, so perhaps they'll show those games live or on tape... channel Five shows games over by you, right? So I'm sure if ESPN America can figure out how to broadcast NFL games in the UK, they'll do it unless there's some sort of exclusive rights deal with Sky and Five.
Alexikokopops Posted 29 July 2009 Posted 29 July 2009 It's just been announced that if you're a Virgin Media XL TV customer you'll get ESPN for free, just like you got Setanta for free before.
Fosse Boy Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 I never, ever, ever in a million years thought I'd get interested in baseball. ESPN America has disproved this.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Baseball makes me weep I find it that boring. That said I don't like cricket. There's not enough shouting for me.
Monk Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 If this means the Stanley Cup is going to be on Sky I could be tempted to subscribe.
