Bellend Sebastian Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 Is there a thread already? There might be, but the search thing never works when I try to use it - I suspect user error. ANYWAY Does anybody know if you can plug a memory stick into a car stereo with a USB port, and play any mp3s stored on it? There I was wondering how to get my mp3 player to synch with a car stereo but it then occurred to me that this might be overcomplicating things and I could just whack the old music files on a memory stick and hey-ho bob's your uncle. Or are you all pissing about with Itrips?

Turn the Ipod volume to maximum and control the volume with the car radio.

Edmund Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 Yeah get a stereo with a usb input or like someone else stated just get a jack to jack and feed it through the aux input.

Unfortunately for Jay, the prize was my undying love for one hour from when he posted, so it's been and gone. I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you
MC Prussian Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 Anyone have a clue what to do with the audio setup inside a Fiat Marea station wagon, made 1995? It only features a cassette deck and no AUX port. I wish I could use my iPod whilst driving...

If you just want to play it through the existing stereo you have two options: horrible Ipod-thru-cassette adaptor - works but sounds unbelievably shite. Alternatively buy an Itrip or similar mini FM broadcasting thing, attach it to your ipod and you can pick it up on your car's radio. Doesn't sound too bad, but don't be surprised if you get interference, particularly where you get lots of pirate radio stations and all that malarkey. You don't have to spend a lot of money to get a car stereo with an AUX in socket now, most have them - this should sound the best

Edmund Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 It's not that easy with the Fiat Marea: See the way that radio/cassette deck is built in? Oh right bugger you might not be able to then. It's still worth going to a car audio dealership as sometimes you still can remove those stereos as there will be two available slots which that one takes up both. If you were to put just a single unit you would be left with a spare slot which they will cover up. Hope that makes sense.

They're not perfect by any standards, but if you can't replace your stereo it's a convenient stop gap iTrip There's probably loads cheaper versions out there but just to demo what I'm talking about

I had one for a day and took it back cause the quality was terrible. Sorry for being pedantic

act smiley Posted 22 July 2009 Posted 22 July 2009 It's not that easy with the Fiat Marea: See the way that radio/cassette deck is built in? You'd just have to splash out on an adaptor - usually they're about a tenner or so, should be able to find one on ebay or such. Might need an adaptor cable, I dunno if it uses the standard ISO cables, again about a tenner or so on ebay.

Bellend Sebastian Posted 25 July 2009 Author Posted 25 July 2009 I've taken the plunge and bought this bitch: It meant buying a fascia adaptor, but it's pretty much a perfect fit and colour so I'm more than happy. It links to the steering wheel controls and recognises tracks on my Sandisk Sansa Mp3 player, so it's all pretty ace so far. Built in blue tooth means I can make high powered business calls* whilst on the move *ring my mum
Joe. Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 Can anybody recommend any speakers under £50 for a car? Not looking for anything twattish, just some small-ish ones to improve sound quality. My current speakers crumble badly under the pressure of remotely loud noises.

What sort of head unit have you got? Although it's fair to say that most factory fit speakers in even half decent cars aren't up to much, conventional wisdom says that you upgrade your head unit before the speakers, because if that's crap, it doesn't matter how good your speakers are - garbage in, garbage out, so to speak. You should be able to get some reasonable speakers for the sort of money you're talking about, but depending on the car you have you might need to buy housings and stuff for them to fit in, so bear that in mind when budgeting

All I know is that my speakers are gash and need replacing... Got a '96 Punto, so I'd magine a fair bit of kit may need replacing for it to sound any good.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 28 July 2009 Author Posted 28 July 2009 Blatant plug here but only because I bought my stuff from them the other day, but I was very happy with the service I got at Leicester Car Electronics. They're off Welford Road, near the Donkey. I think it's the Donkey, anyway
