Thracian Posted 15 September 2009 Posted 15 September 2009 also indicative of the ever decreasing commitment of players and clubs to each other... Very much so and also the fear that pervades football to such a degree now that, too often, whichever team gets in front so often just tries to defend that lead rather than building on it...including our own. Anyway, congratulations to Matty. I've criticised him at times and still believe he has things he should be working hard on but there's no doubting he's had a good year or more and the record shows that anyone scoring 50 goals has reached a creditworthy milestone. Reading that list it's even surprised me how many goals Walshie scored - the defender really could be lethal up front and at one time it could have been argued he was a better striker than centre-back. I didn't realise Mike Stringellow scored so often - or Wee Davie Gibson. Stringy is often overshadowed in conversation by the brilliance of Gibbo but he was one lethal left winger. Very direct and consistent. I've mainly pictured Gibbo as being our master architect. A guy who saw the pictures and had the skill to deliver any pass to any player and, in particular, to drop the ball onto Stringfellow's toes without him needing to change step even at full pace. The stats reminded me that Gibbo did get up into the danger areas and he could finish sweetly. What a wonderful partnership they made - a threat to even the best opposition in the land. Happy days.
dogadug Posted 15 September 2009 Posted 15 September 2009 Very interesting, surprised how few recent players there are.How many did Cottee and Joachim get? cottee got 27 joachim got 25
jonthefox Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 ive seen 6 now.. does that make old then.?
Guest Electric Yetis Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Have only seen two of them Walsh & Fryatt. I've been a season ticket holder for 17 years as well.Thought Iwan Roberts would be up there but just checked and he got 41 goals.
Jimmy Posted 23 September 2009 Posted 23 September 2009 Yet ironically the 00's saw the sale of our most expensive striker and player of all time Heskey scored 46 goals in total for us, not bad considering he was never expected to score loads and spent almost all his time playing in the Premier League for us. as for Muzzy he got 47 for us in all competitions
I am Rod Hull Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 Derek Hines (117) was my great uncle (grandads brother on my mums side)
Jimmy Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 of the current squad the closest players are Howard with 28 and King with 27
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 1 April 2012 Posted 1 April 2012 Source - http://www.bentleysroof.co.uk/fryatt-joins...club/#more-1465 A.Chandler – 273 * A.Rowley – 265 * E.Hine – 156 * D.Hines – 117 *A.Lochhead – 114 G.Dewis – 113 * G.Lineker – 103 * J.Lee – 97 * M.Stringfellow – 97 * J.Duncan – 95 D.Liddle – 92 * J.Walsh – 92 * S.Smith – 85 * A.Smith – 84 * M.Griffiths – 79 F.Worthington – 78 * K.Keyworth – 76 * J.Bowers – 71 * A. I've seen 12 of them, 5 in the 60's, 1 in the early 70s, 5 throughout the 80's including Walsh into the 90s. Fryatt being the only one since Walshy. Reflects what a shitty period the naughties have been. Of those the 6 highest scorers were out and out strikers the others being made up of 3 wingers, 2 mid-fielders and 1 defender Perhaps also an indication of how difficult it has become to actually score goals - not sure about that though could just be Leicester City Arthur Rowley will always remain a MASSIVE legend.
jonthefox Posted 2 April 2012 Posted 2 April 2012 I reckon andy king will get on this list next season. Whats he on now?. 42 is it?.
