Fez of Mahrez Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 Worth a read The comparisons with Saturday's events in Manchester are obvious and some have commented on that article to that effect but I think this is a story worth mentioning on its own merit, clearly a tragic story but one that warms the heart.
Joe. Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 Puts things into perspective doesn't it? I could imagine a lot of embarassment circulating if certain Premier League footballers ever capped their eyes on this.
Fosse Boy Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 Nice to hear of a story like this in an age where football (and the media who cover it) seldom care for such heartwarming tales.
dandannieldanok Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 Nice that the card signing was arranged.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 Great touch and does really show how much players mean to the fans. Just a shame no one in the Premiership will ever understand that.
Sparky Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 Great read , heartwarming indeed. Baker himself and the Yeovil fans have shown absolute class
Salieri Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 Unbelievable that his younger brother has leukemia too.
NorthernFox Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 Just read this, restores a little faith in humanity. Sympathies to Carl's family.
Vacamion Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 Humbling. Being in the catchment area of the Manchester clubs must make it really hard for Stockport to make ends meet, so it is completely commendable that they are putting their time, effort and meagre resources towards Leukaemia Research. All the very best of luck to them.
Edmund Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 I think it was mentioned on the footy league show. Glad he got the goal, fitting tribute for a tragic loss. Also nice touch to have a card signed for him.
Finnegan Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 Fucking cracking. I'd suggest someone should force Adebayor to sit down and have a chat with the lad and the Stockport gaffer but it's likely it'd all just pass him by really.
davieG Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 fooking cracking. I'd suggest someone should force Adebayor to sit down and have a chat with the lad and the Stockport gaffer but it's likely it'd all just pass him by really. Not forgetting some of those spoilt Arsenal fans. A tale that is sad yet warms the heart.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 Not forgetting some of those spoilt Arsenal fans.A tale that is sad yet warms the heart. Not really, they haven't won nothing in years and they hardly spend money like Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool. Arsenal find their stars instead of outbuying them or offering them a bigger wage.
Soar Fox Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 Not really, they haven't won nothing in years and they hardly spend money like Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool.Arsenal find their stars instead of outbuying them or offering them a bigger wage. This has nothing to do with the current topic. Best wishes go to his family in this difficult time.
Ultra Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 Fantastic gesture by the Stockport fans. I'd like to think we could respond like that if (heaven forbid) anything like that happened to one of our players.
Raj Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 His younger Bro has leukemia too??? My Lord, thats horrendous. Example to all, especially over paid, under skilled, truculent prima donna footballers, some who's biggest emotional challenge is probably which of their luxury cars to drive to training.
dogadug Posted 15 September 2009 Posted 15 September 2009 Good to here that things like this go on in football nowadays
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 15 September 2009 Posted 15 September 2009 A sad and heartwarming story. Great fans
