davieG Posted 4 October 2009 Posted 4 October 2009 It's called being a football supporter for a reasonIn my opinion sitting on your arse and doing nothing all game isn't really supporting.... and those people really do nothing at all for the football match, and might as well be at home watching Soccer Saturday. People attend football matches for different reasons, are those that like to watch the game develop, studying individual performances, the tactical battles less entitled to be there rather than those spending the whole game being vocal but watching what the away fans are doing rather than the game? I can't believe how much snobbery has crept into supporting your football team. One of the best things about football is that it cuts across all classes, all genders, all age groups, all abilities and all intelligence levels etc. There's not many other interests in life that can claim that.
davieG Posted 4 October 2009 Posted 4 October 2009 But perhaps that attitude comes about as a result of frustration and not a superiority complex? At present the club (in fact most football clubs in general) only seem to be happy to accomodate one type of fan (i.e. those who wish to sit down). When there are two conflicting types of fan and only one is ever catered for there's bound to be resentment. Then the resentment should be directed solely at the club not the other 'type' of fan. Not that there are just two types.
Fosse Boy Posted 4 October 2009 Posted 4 October 2009 Then the resentment should be directed solely at the club not the other 'type' of fan. Not that there are just two types. Maybe I am polarising the issue a little, but when the club seem futile to any suggestions from the standing/singing type of fan as to how their "matchday experience" (for want of a better phrase) could be improved, can they be entirely blamed for venting their collective anger on to the people who they see as hindering their attempts to enjoy the game the way they want to? I'm not saying they're right to do so by the way.

Yes because they are completely in the wrong and it will not change things one iota by doing so. People need to accept that all types go to a football match and stop moaning about how their fellow fans enjoy the game, be they those that want to sit, those that boo, those that moan, those that swear, those that spend half the game going to the bogs, eating food etc, those that never even watch the game. They've all paid their money.

davieG Posted 4 October 2009 Posted 4 October 2009 Yet some get more preferential treatment from the club than others.. Yet again that's not their fault it's the club and football in general that's shit in the way they treat certain fans not the fans. You know my views on standing, singing, 'youthful fans' but that doesn't give those fans the right to slag off others who prefer a different style of watching/supporting. Besides it's not as if the most vocal fans are automatically the most supportive, those very same fans in the kop were the same ones booing last season when we dared to draw at home, I also recall them threatening violence to some of their own fans who didn't stand to sing and yet 5 minutes later where booing the team.
H_26 Posted 4 October 2009 Posted 4 October 2009 It was my third away game. I have ever been too. Atmosphere, I thought was very good. Vocally I think we were louder at Newcastle. Stadium looked so small. Although big on the outside. Roll on Derby the 17th. Cant wait.
Raj Posted 4 October 2009 Posted 4 October 2009 Folk who think they are "special" just cos they stand and sing and are hence superfans should come down to where the wheelcahir/disabled fans have to watch the game from and see if them folk are any "less" fans. In my mind they REALLY are superfans.

Bert Posted 4 October 2009 Posted 4 October 2009 Not disputing that chum, it's just these people who think that if you don't stand up and sing the whole game then you are inferior in some way that bug me.Oh and for the record I do stand up and sing wherever possible but I don't look down on people who for some reason can't. You're bang on there. At least all these people were at the game and not "boycotting"it because they don't like the type of fan that's going to be attending or at another teams match in the away end, that I think is pathetic, you should support your club regardless. I love to sing and stand, and do it as much as possible, but it's not always that easy and some people don't go to games for that, and/or can't stand up for 90 minutes.

I would much rather have been at the game yesterday, and some of the comments I see make my blood boil.

Slight feeling this is aimed at me! I don't like going back on decisions mate, last time we went Cov I said I wouldn't return to the Ricoh certainly not anytime soon I've since said the same about Reading, MK Dons and now Boro. Going back on decisions is not something I'm into. It worked out well as Derby was on my return home from Sheff to Leicester on the train and a mate from uni really fancied it and probably wasn't going alone. Anyone in this thread questioning my loyallty support or commitment to City should look at the fact I'm suppose to be cutting back on games this season yet have still appeared at Maccelsfield, Sheff Utd, Preston, Newcastle, Watford and Boro. I may have made some tw atish comments in this thread but there are certain people on here (JME, Afie, Arab, Ched, Suas) to name a few who'd rather stay at home when our support is littered with people I'd class as boring.

Not all of it. Fair play to you not going back on your word and I fully respect you standing your ground on it. Personally I could never go to another game when my team are playing on the same day. I'll never question your loyalty because I know you go pretty much every game possible, things like this just really wind me up. Away days are what you make of it with the people you go with, and I'm sure most people would agree with that. From my point of view, you shouldn't let what other people do rule what decision you make.

I get you mate, I agree I've said a few things in a couple of threads which were a bit silly and needlessly controversial and have invited deserved criticism (I'm not about to turn into a poster who makes a point and if someone disagrees, say "willy puller" to them) The bottom bit I know all too well. Each of the places I listed Dons, Ricoh, Boro and Reading I was with a decent crowd the same I'd get at a place like Watford for example but the matchday experience just overwelms it. Luckily Boro was a tremendous laugh journying to and from. Was my decision and mine only not to attend Cov.

Give me the likes of Boro, Hartlepool, Portsmouth, Watford instead of the likes of Cov any day. Just prefer a smaller number of Leicester fans in my opinion ....
