BedsFox Posted 2 October 2009 Posted 2 October 2009 www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk Lloyd Dyer hopes goal keeps him in Leicester City team Friday, October 02, 2009, 08:00 Lloyd Dyer has revealed his frustration at being unable to command a regular starting spot in the Leicester City line-up. But the 27-year-old left-winger hopes that after his winning goal at Middlesbrough on Tuesday night he has done enough to alter the situation Dyer was a virtual ever-present in City's League One title winning campaign last season but has been in and out of the side this term, and the Riverside clash was only his second start away from home. He said: "I don't think I've started the season any differently to the last one so it's been very frustrating. It was good to start at Boro and get a goal." Dyer accepts there is strong competition for places at the Walkers Stadium as City manager Nigel Pearson looks to push his side towards a play-off spot in the Championship. Click here for more He said: "I'm not going to tell the manager how to pick his team, and I understand we do have a strong squad here, but I'm hoping I've shown enough for him to continue giving me a chance at Coventry." Dyer started the first two Championship games of the campaign but did not even make the substitutes' bench in the 3-3 draw at Watford following the arrival of Paul Gallagher on a three-year deal from Blackburn Rovers. He was a second-half replacement for Steve Howard against Preston last weekend and the got the nod to start against the Teessiders. He was one of five changes to the line-up for the Boro game following City's first defeat in more than a year against Preston. Pearson's bold selection paid off and Dyer said: "He freshened things up and it worked. It's great to get our first away win and we've been unlucky that it has not come before now." Dyer's late winner was also his first of the campaign and he found himself in acres of space in the penalty area to convert a right-wing centre from skipper Matt Oakley. He said: "I kept thinking 'hurry up and get the ball to me'. I think it took a bit of a deflection but I'm not bothered as they all count." Dyer scored 11 goals last season and believes he can again push towards double figures in this campaign, and he would love to be on the scoresheet again against the Sky Blues at the Ricoh Arena. "I want more goals again this season and, hopefully, this is the first of many. It's a big derby for us tomorrow and we are looking forward to it. We've got to take it on from Boro and show the same sort of team spirit. There was a good spirit and no-one gave up." Pearson also handed a first full start to French striker Yann Kermorgant at Boro and Dyer was impressed with his hour-long contribution. He said: "Yann's done well for his first start and he's looked decent. He's a good player who is a handful and he also puts himself about – he did Nicky Adams in training the other day!"
StanSP Posted 2 October 2009 Posted 2 October 2009 Don't think he'll start to be honest. Make the bench though. And 'a bit of a deflection'
Criggers Posted 2 October 2009 Posted 2 October 2009 Make the bench though. Probably right there. After reading all of that the only bit that had me interested was the last paragraph where it mentions the Yann. I'm excited about this guy getting a run in the team. Poor old Dyer has gave me no confidence in his abilities this year. I'm sure he's got it in him but we havn't seen it I don't think. And at no point in any game he hasn't been in have I thought, ooh, where's Lloyd he could make a difference? Why isn't Mr Dyer playing?
Smudge Posted 2 October 2009 Posted 2 October 2009 I can't imagine this self promotion goes down well with NP.
Jimmy Posted 2 October 2009 Posted 2 October 2009 I can't imagine this self promotion goes down well with NP. what did he say to upset NP though, essentially he said "I scored the winner and I hope that's enough for the gaffa to start me next game"
Smudge Posted 2 October 2009 Posted 2 October 2009 what did he say to upset NP though, essentially he said "I scored the winner and I hope that's enough for the gaffa to start me next game" Read it how you like, I read it differently; no big deal eh?
Daggers Posted 2 October 2009 Posted 2 October 2009 I can't imagine this self promotion goes down well with NP. I can't imagine Pearson isn't already fully aware of it before it happens, tbh.
