In my case I was talking about people on an internet forum, many of whom I haven't met... nor am I likely to. In all honesty, no, I'm not that bothered what they think of me. If some randomer takes a dislike to me over t'internet it really does mean jack shit and I'm not gonna lose sleep over it. Friends, family, colleagues, etc are another matter entirely - of course I want to make a good impression on them.

I do care what people think about me to an extent (ie I would not want to act in a manner thats offensive) but I dont care about people who just dont like me if that makes sense? I want to be liked by people. Not that I would bend over backwards to them or lose any sleep if they dislike me, but I still want to be liked - even by the pissed up Geordie cunt who lives opposite me. So I do care about other people's perception of me. I think most people think I'm a good lad- except my ex-girlfriends who think I'm an arsehole.

If someone on here who has never met or had a proper convo with me thinks I'm a tosser, I couldn't care less to be honest. I like to think I've come across fairly well to those who have actually spent any length of time from here as I don't see myself as being particularly obnoxious or difficult to get along with, in spite of my many character flaws . As with you though, my friends, family and peers are far more important as they're the people I spend more time with and therefore need to get along with.

It is kind of true, however people can think this to an extent. It is getting a balance between not caring enough and caring too much, which will make you appear vain. I don't generally care that much what people think of me because I'll just act like I act, however, if someone dislikes me I'll try and find out why and generally not act in a way that annoys them when I'm around them. Of course you'll get some dicks who just don't like you without reason.

I used to be consumed with wanting ppl to like me but Ive had too much shit happen to me to realise its not bloody important and the people who love me are the only ones that matter. yes, which is pretty much what i was getting at in the second part.
